It has come to my attention that, even after 4 years, players still are not aware of Hots’s Surrender option, so I am here to inform you.
As it seems, many are unaware that the game actually DOES have a surrender mechanic, likely because no one has cared to inform them. Hots is built as a team game, whether it is planning, fights, or even down to experience points. This even applies to the surrender mechanic which is such:
In the event that ALL 5 members of a team quit a match, then the game will register that as a surrender, since the TEAM has chosen to all give up. The core will detonate and the opposing team will be declared the winner. As compensation to those who surrendered, the game will not force you to rejoin the game as that match has ended. Signing back in, you are allowed to enter lobby and queue for a new match.

Player 5 – buttheads, I told them not to 1st pick nova and butcher and that li-ming and valla were bad follow ups what did they expect.
Player 5-- I may loose this game but while those numb nuts are in leaver queue it means they won’t be on my team again… Muahahahahahhahahah
If there is an in game surrender option I would like it to be a little checkbox next to your portrait. Game auto ends if all 5 members of team have it clicked. And this way, no one could see who else is wanting to surrender.
But I can see issues with one person throwing the match to try and force everyone else to surrender. This kinda happens anyways though.
I also think surrenders should be slightly more than a regular loss, like 1.25 points lost in order to encourage people seeing the match through unless they are absolutely certain. This would hopefully discourage trolling with it as well.
I think you aren’t aware how unanimous decisions are formed in real life. It isn’t really about everyone feeling the same, it’s peer pressure if not downright bullying. When somebody doesn’t surrender when 4 other players do then suddenly that player is the bad guy. Even if they have a legit reason or because they are the solo player in team with a toxic 4-stack. Unanimous decisions are the equivalent of everyone having veto rights on a decision. This is nice in theory but in reality whenever you veto something you’re immediately becoming the target of spite and hostility in the lines of “How you dare to think differently!”.
This is just the part about the process. The other part is the whole issue with surrender option. For starters you gain a few minutes at best by implementing this to HotS. While also introducing a new mechanic to throw games and ruin matches because some people are just unwilling to actually play. Long queue times are brought up as a reason why this would make sense. No, it doesn’t. Even if you could queue immediately after quitting a match it doesn’t mean you’d get into the new match significantly faster. You still just cut off that 10 or so minutes of struggle. This is still just an escape method to face struggles and experience failure. Nothing to really do with time.
they just need to put it as an option for the team to vote for, toxicity in this game would drop if there was a surrender option to just basically end games that are complete stomps, you know the ones. where they kill all your forts and you get none of theirs, 3 levels ahead etc. those games only breed frustration and frustration leads to toxicity
