On one hand: those sorts of posts devolve into “you deserved it!” on one side, and “I didn’t do nothing!” on the other side. Both of which are either biased, uninformed, or both.
So it’s not exactly valuable fodder for a discussion board.
On the other hand, those threads at least highlight a problematic automated report system. Which isn’t happening when you virtually prohibit any threads about silences. And if it’s not a personal ban/silence, most players don’t care to discuss on an esoteric level.
Adding to that the biggest problem with these threads are that replays and chatlogs are the best evidence. And for most part the people making these topics don’t often post samples of their replays so we’re left with a one sided narrative. When we actually do see replays being posted it’s shown to be justified, that’s why it is best to go into those topics with a healthy amount of skepticism when no replays are posted. But these topics are usually popular as we see people bandwagon these topics to promote their own agenda / narrative.
Why would you be surprised at all that this happens on reddit?
Blizz forums have some things deleted by mods, as people have stated, but they do leave a lot up. I know because I have written numerous short and trite threads. I got silenced on the forums for one, and rightly so tbh. The others are there, and they’re surely are not full of praise.
“I have been unfairly silenced. All I did was call my teammates a bunch of **** sucking **** that needed to abort themselves, I don’t understand why they don’t take constructive criticism.”
The rules prevent anyone from posting the proof that might provide corroborating evidence (see link and copy below). Historically whenever a government, company, or institution goes to extreme lengths to silence any debate it’s usually a sign of its decline.
The fact that on these forums and now on Reddit there are so many rules preventing discussion about the reporting system suggests to me Acti’B knows that it is indeed a problem. People who post about it run the further risk of even more punishments if they deviate from the not well defined rules and are prevented from providing any direct evidence to prove their claims of innocence.
Discussing Disciplinary Actions
This category includes:
__ Creating posts or threads to discuss disciplinary actions taken against a player, including chat logs and email correspondence between a player and a Game Master (GM)__
__ Creating posts or threads to discuss disciplinary actions taken against a character or account on the forums__
If a player is found to have participated in such actions, he/she will:
__ Be given a temporary ban from the forums, depending upon severity__
I’m sorry, but have you actually been there? While it doesn’t sink to the same level as we get here some times, there are plenty of people whining about inconsequential things (or just making things up to complain about).
Not true, but even if it were, this thread isn’t valid criticism any way.
Also, it says no PERSONAL posts, not that you cannot complain about the system at all. If you want to criticize the system without involving personal information you would still be free to do so.
(the fourth one was me saying that the number of threads censored was up to 3 and it was me criticizing the moderators hard)
i don’t feel like posts complaining about how you were banned should be disallowed, they’re often times full of complaining + distaste but that doesn’t mean it should be removed, what’s worse is that you can’t submit a ticket or have any other outlet to talk about the ban so if it (or another person’s is seen as unjust) you just have to take it
also there’s a good chance this thread might be deleted as well save your posts if you want them
I agree with not yelling at people for how they play during the game. However, a large majority of the time, I saw people do so. It’s basically every game, even when things temporarily go bad during a won game.
Im all for removing forced 50 threads as nobody in last 2 years posting about it has had any evidence or even a logical argument for existence of this crap.
Edit: I have seen the error of this reasoning, deleting stuff like forced 50 threads would just make people believe in their conspiracies more, leaving my original post up for context and insight.
The vast majority of people on Reddit are against this horrible rule which is just thinly disguised censorship.
"A blanket censorship on posting on the topic of silences/suspensions that have happened to someone as an individual (who is not a celebrity) is clearly not supported.
The community has clearly spoken that they do not feel that every single post of this topic is a “low quality post.”
What remains to be seen is if the mods will represent the best interests of the community, or if they will unilaterally uphold this blanket ban policy."
“I just want to throw my hat in the ring and say that I also believe this is a bad idea.”
“So many people had told me about how mods censor this sub… First time I see it with my own eyes”
“Don’t bother. The mod who made this post does this all the time which is why many long time players stopped using this subreddit.”
I don’t know when it became so popular for you people to give away your freedom of speech in favor of censorship. Reddit at least still understands that censorship is bad.
Maybe it started when companies became “people”, who knows? I don’t understand why people are condemning another person in a thread who got suspended for “ping spam” as if he had confessed to murder.
I’d argue the rule on Reddit is just plain ordinary censorship, it’s not really disguised. The more rules we have about what we can and can’t discuss will make these forums and Reddit just less interesting places to engage with.
Yeeup! I am there all the time. And it is curated by the mods on the spectrum of leaning positive. While in the “official” forums there is very little mod presence any longer.
