Hi blizz, first idk to say that I’m an indie game designer in my free time from work, and always loved Blizzard games since I was a teen. Looking at your games today, we can agree that you have failed this genre for as long as it was conceived…I have an idea for you to rise this fail MOBA back to deserved glory of Blizzard.
Your main mistake was to make a moba for non-moba gamers, which clearly we can see are less than the numbers of players interested in this genre. So we should correct that mistake so you can have a market penetration with all your power! Take note that I will use League of Legends, Dota, and Mobile Mobas as refs.
Use standard MOBA layout, you can have your different battlegrounds as skins, and the main map objective would replace the Baron (LoL) and would only APPEAR in the baron time, that way we can have a respectful lane phase, without stupid objectives all the time. The mercs would replace dragon (LoL), and depending on the “skin” of the map, could have different effects on the battleground.
ITEMIZATION, is a must-have. I know most of hots players don’t like items, but items work much better to counter build than hots skill tree will ever hope for. You may use items AND SKILL TREE if you want, Dota have done it, so why not since you guys already had a nice skill tree.
Be FAST-PACED like Mobile Mobas. They are the best example, Mobile Mobas have average matches of 12 to 15 mins. This is possible due to a smaller stage scale, fast minion waves, and NO LAST HIT (or deny). You guys should check out Arena of Valor, and Marvel Super War (new release 2020).
Skin events and Battle pass. Hots had always weak events, look at how LoL and MM do their events, this is why people keep playing, for rewards!
Make a Mobile version as well. Mobile mobas today surpass average revenue of any PC moba, which is a GOLD MINE.
E-sports, support it with all your might, that is what creates HYPE for people (and this time you will have playerbase, rest assured)!
Well, if you do this, I promise you guys will make a lot of money, will have a respected moba in the market, watched for years on twitch, and will be able to clash against LoL and Dota for sure! Now, when you guys become famous for this amazing rework, remember me, just a great fan of blizzard designs!
Ew no. I like maps. Also we had item-like mechanics (artifacts), which everyone hated
So you are basically suggesting to remove everything that makes hots unique, alienate the remaining fanbase, and not gain anymore players because the people that want to play league are already playing league.
No thanks: no one wants HotS to completly die because it has become just another LoL’s clone, losing everything that make it completly different in its gameplay experience.
lol I knew hots players would protest, it’s fine. But, tell me, what is the point of being original if you have no player base, dead e-sports scene? Clearly hots IS DEAD guys, this game has failed, as much as you love the game the way it is, even blizzard doesn’t care about hots.
And being similar is not bad or wrong, people copy suff all the time, is called market penetration! It’s like saying nobody should create android phones, because samsung is already too big! Hots would drain LoL e Dota players that are tired of 45 mins matches, and boring lane phase in the PC market, and in mobiles would be even easier!
I admit you got a bit of a point. People keep defending this games uniqueness, but what has it brought? Maintenance mode? What good is it doing anybody anymore? Truth is, like I said in a post a long time ago… I don’t think heroes will be in maintenance mode forever. I think Heroes 3.0 will come someday when the devs finish their projects and return to this game.
But heroes 3.0 will change this game fundamentally. As it stands the game is a failure, they won’t continue on the path they are going. They will probably make 3.0 into a more standard moba to attract a wider ranged audience.
So instead of being an original idea that caters to the people who prefer this style of MOBA, you would rather it be a game that appeals to no one? Heroes of Newerth by the way - complete DotA knockoff that instantly died the moment DotA 2 came out, because copy-pasted games will always fail in the face of the original.
Also, probably ten thousand+ players is not “no one”, not even kind of. It’s not millions, but it’s also a lot more than you’ll find on Heroes of Newerth.
Funnily enough, Heroes of the Storm copied exactly what League of Legends did. The reason LoL became popular is because it took DotA’s framework and hyper-casualized it. HotS then took LoL and made an even more accessible version of that. The only reason it was never hugely successful was missing the MOBA boon by about three years.
Cute how yall talk like this game still matter to Blizzard. It’s a side project now, issues will not be fixed, we all play when we have nothing better to do as some maps and mechanics are fun on the 1% time they happen.
Okay, for one… I’ll never forget when I was playing Dante’s Inferno. I had borrowed it from a friend who kept going on and on about it, so to shut him up I played it. It wasn’t terrible, but I kept having one nagging thought running in the back of my mind… I have more fun playing God of War than I do playing this right now. When I wasn’t playing, I wanted to play that other game instead of Dante’s Inferno… And that’s basically why you don’t copy the other guy. Because you might draw attention for being the next new big thing, but you also get people who don’t stick around because, well… If the game has only one map with different skins, and it’s the same one like the others, and I don’t care about the skin, and if the other guys have refined their item systems over years of gameplay tuning and these guys just don’t have it working right… why bother with HotS when it’s pretending to be like another game, just go play that other game.
I love this game in large part to the fact that the maps are so different. Some maps have a solid merc presence and I can use Sylvanas’ talents to dominate those camps and be a major presence for my team without being in lane all the time. Other maps I have to maximize my waveclear with the same character because the lane pressure is more important… and still others have objectives that net a reward for a single team, so it’s important that I trade up for being a damage dealer. Same character, different talent build just based on the maps, and it gets further changed depending on the enemy comp.
Itemization is just dead. It was part of the initial incarnation of the game, and it did not work well at all… and as the game developed over time, it has become more and more irrelevant to the game. The quote I heard before regarding these is ‘Arthas has Frostmourne, do you really wanna give him a different sword?’ It’s also worth pointing out that the item systems take away a great deal of the individuality of the different characters. Levelling up can only unlock one of your abilities OR incrementally boosts the stats attached to your character, even the talent tree in DotA only gives basic things… Nothing compared to how you can change the effects of a basic attack or a basic ability entirely (look at Stukov, he has a level one talent that changes his basic melee attack for a ranged one, how many DotA or LoL characters have that?)
As far as making things like Mobile Mobas… No. Unless it’s a real knock-down, drag-out fight, you’re not going to be spending time like you would in a DotA or LoL match. I have no issue if Blizzard decided to make a stripped down version of HotS for a mobile platform, but I can honestly say that I enjoy the length of matches currently, and making them any simpler for the sake of making them shorter is just gonna make me and many others leave.
The insistence on FORCING an eSport scene on this game never ceases to amaze me. Let’s think back to how eSports really got started. People played Counterstrike, they played DotA, they played StarCraft, and they got really good at it, then people wanted to organize tournaments, then things got really serious till they decided to make actual sponsored tournaments. CS, DotA, and StarCraft all were made to just be good games, they weren’t designed to be competitive, and they grew into being the cornerstones of the eSports world. You can’t take a game that hasn’t developed a competitive scene on its own and force it into a full fledged eSport team. HGC was that attempt, and it didn’t work so well. Also, this ignores the fact that there are still organized tournaments taking place without major sponsorship. Seriously, I don’t know where all this insistence on eSports comes from…
I understand that perhaps you’re lacking on the history of the game, but bottom line, EVERYTHING you brought up has been attempted before and it’s fallen flat or will kill off the remainder of the interest in the game… And it also makes it such that the only things that give us reason to keep playing this other than learning how to play LOL or DotA is the fact that the game is different.
Having different maps makes for a more diverse gameplay experience and further impacts what your team composition could be and how you build your characters.
Itemization was attempted, it didn’t work, and to introduce it now would radically alter EVERY character in a way that would take YEARS to sort out how to balance everything.
Mobile mobas are for mobile platforms, unless you’re playing on your gaming laptop… go find a mobile moba to play.
Esports grow out of the game naturally when you’ve built a solid enjoyable game that still has a depth that requires skill in order to master… not the other way around.
hots on a tiny screen, filled with talentbuttons and sh*t…no ty, i prefer big screens where i can actually see something
And how will you manage crossplay? whiners inc “pc players have better controlls than mobile players” and if you seperate them you have a even tinier playerbase than atm
I agree about items, but also I can’t get a good game lately in RANKED due to some troll who does not for example pick a tank when we need a tank so other team has a tank and wins.
It was originality that spawned Dota. Dota 2 came out, and Blizz sued them. Then Blizz late to the party with HOTS hoping to make back some of the money that Dota 2 made off of their tools.
Now originality has been stifled with WC3R because they don’t want Dota 2 to happen again.
