I really want to play the pve mode. If you stop developing the hos, pls set the pve melee as a normal mode. one called escape from the Braxis holdout, and another is something like protect the integrity of the building. Players on many national servers want to play this mode. so plzzzzzzzzz!!!
I donât think they were that popular, but completely removing them from the game seems wasteful. Just like with the other old brawls like Pool Party and such, why arenât they available in Custom Game modes?
They were very popular, especially among the AI only crowd. I remember reading an interview with one of the developers who mentioned that the PvE brawls were among the most popular. I assume that like the other specialty brawls, they were dropped due to having to update too many things due to changes in the base client, not necessarily the heroes.
They were a good way to farm levels, and rather like dungeon spamming in WoW, so I agree with the OP that it is a shame they are no longer available.
Pool Party was boring (both Stitches and Chromie one. problem being, once player counts get low at the end, it gets harder to land skillshot, and games get dragged out). BUT, I consider it one of those experiences every players (especially low end players) should go through. It helped me learn how to dodge Chromie skillshot/Q back then.
To those who are unaware, Chromie Q is very telegraphed as it has wind-up time and she faces where sheâs shooting. There are couple of angles where animation looks confusing, but other than that, you shouldnât really get hit by her Q often (when youâre paying attention, and not CCed/slowed).
Escape from New York was the best one.
I guess that kinda explains it. My experience with them was them being stupidly easy. Just pick something like Xul or Winblade varian and avoid other heroes that were just utterly useless on those maps and itâs easy win.
But i do remember there being posts complaining that the hardest difficult was too hard, how some players lost 20 times in a row against it and such. Theyâre probably the type of players that picked heroes like⌠i donât know⌠Li Ming, tracer, genji and suchâŚ
Itâs fun until you beat them and for people who arenât that good it was probably an entertaining challenge.
And some people probably just enjoyed playing heroes in a much more PvE orientated context, like those varians that go twinblade and ignore teamfights in order to splitpush and solo bosses all game. lawl.
I found those way more entertaining than the PvE brawls at least. At least it was skill vs skill while it had some messy and funny aspects, like how double hooking someone in Stitches PP was an instakill or how dead chromies could throw down time traps on the opponents.
Itâs not like I would play the PPâs dozens of times in a row, but it would be fun if I could play it a couple of times a month.

Not sure how much Chromieâs Pool Party would change now that her cast time is 0.2 seconds, not 1 second. Although they might just keep it at 1 second just to be confusing.
They said with every update they needed to update stuff in those brawls, so it was just too much time consuming. I guess all brawls could come back now since we barely have any updates no?
Hoku is correct, they said on Reddit that brawls were too expensive as they require updating every time the client is updated. Here is one link I could find.
Blizz_DWarner:
Sadly, non-ARAM Brawls are pretty expensive to maintain. Weâd love to keep the Brawl mode hidden, and set up something fun there, for a week or two, on special occasions, such as seasonal events.
Fixed. You see that is completely subjective what is boring or not. You donât like it, but others do and I agree with Narha here that I donât understand why they couldnât at least let this modes in Custom for some players, especially if it was the rotation that caused them trouble not the map itself.
Thatâs why they could just let this mode in custom with the quickinfo: âModes might not be balanced due to extra workâ or sth. like that. But removing brawls was wasteful.
It isnât as simple as a lack of balance. Client changes affect a lot of things, many of them unseen by most players, and can break certain mechanics to the point where it would be time consuming (read, expensive) to fix.
For example, the Escape from Braxis dungeon crawl used a number of the units from the Braxis Holdout map. Those units have changed a few times, such as adding the drop pods and modifying the damage done by banelings, so it is likely it would affect the brawl as well, possibly making certain aspects of it unplayable, such as the baneling nightmare area. Maintaining two different sets of units would be untenable, and the map would have had to have been redesigned a bit to change the location and distribution of units.
In addition, several of the heroes used as mini-bosses, such as Zagara and Murky, have been changed, and the map would need to be updated to reflect their changes.
This is just the obvious stuff that would be noticeable by the playerbase, but I assume that other âunder the hoodâ changes, such as OS updates, or graphics card driver updates, would be even more prevalent and require more difficult reprogramming.
Although I certainly miss the variety, the seasonal brawls such as the SnowBrawl and the explody pumpkin thingy on Towers of Doom for Halloween were always my favorites, if I had to choose between brawls or improving the core game due to staff/budget cuts, well, I would prefer to see reworks, QoL changes, or new heroes.
There is a way to unlock all the old brawls in training mode by modding the files but itâs a lot of effort. Itâs on reddit when you google âhow to play deadmans stand hots brawlâ.
You need to extract the old brawl files with casc explorer and replace the training files with it then you can play it single player.
A ton of stuff will be broken though because the brawl was made years ago. It doesnât fit the current client properly and you may crash randomly, like if you use an ability that didnât exist when that brawl existed.
I dont know if there is a technical problem with this or anything but HotS really should just take the SC2 approach with the issue of releasing pve campaigns and other modes that arenât the main thing, let the playerbase themselves do it, a lot of people who left sc2 moved to hots, and quite a large number of said players are familiar or good at using the sc2 mapmaker, just implement the sc2 mapmaker into hots, it would probably take some messing around with to make it work, however there is a lot of stuff you can do with the sc2 editor, just as an example a game called before darkness falls generally lasts for 9 hours (and is still being updated to last longer), it has autosaving completely new models for literally everything, a whole UI system an RNG based rewards system multiple missions bossfights tech trees and a lot more. If they do manage to implement the sc2 mapmaker system into HotS Iâm pretty confident it will solve a lot of the requests for pve, campaigns, and honestly might quell a lot of the requests for more mapsâŚbecause well you could just simply make them yourself, same with new heroes, if they wanted to add a hero they probably could literally just ask someone who already made a well liked hero if they could implement it into the official game and they really probably would barely have to do anything.
miss those stitch pool parties lol
Escape from Brexit was the best brawl of all.
