Hit box reduction

Ok so does anyone know why they even changed this?
Blizzard this HUGE you own us some kind of reasoning minimum! Lol

Body blocking is much harder (sometimes not even posable anymore)
Skill shots are much harder
Slipping past things is a lot easier
Avoiding skill shots is a lot easier

This effects offensive and defensive play.
The size reduction changes were not applied evenly meaning some will have bigger buffs/nerffs than others.
And some have a hit box hidden very much inside them now! What you see is NOT what you get.

So my question to you lot is …
Is this a buff or a nerff and what do you think they are trying to do here?

Playing as a defensive Dehaka is extremely tricky now, as I Q to save someone, I’m missing a hell of a lot more. A lot of the time everyone will see my Q go right through the target but miss, I’ve had a lot of comments like ā€œwtf how did that missā€ and some of the smaller targets were already pretty hard to hit in the middle of a complicated fight - the time you normally need it the most.

Body blocking is also harder, and there are far fewer places on the map where you can effectively trap people completely with 1-2 of your team. Thus eliminating this aspect of game play completely with some heroes now, as people can just slip between you and the terrain.

I’m not sure why this change even came about?
What does it achieve other than a global disruption to the game balance?

Some people have suggested upping the damage of skill shots to compensate but I have to say a flat out NO there. Not all skill shots are about damage, and even if they are damaging, something like Dehaka’s Q used defensively the damage means nothing. So this would not help defensive play, nor does it fix the body blocking issue.
You could widen the hit area of certain skill shots to compensate, but that is effectively the same as changing the size of someone’s hit box lol!

It’s kind of hard to make suggestions or give feedback when Blizzard don’t tell us why they have made such a change.

How will this affect game play?

It’s hard for them to know because they have kicked it out with a bunch of other huge game play changes. So without talking to us about things, we can’t give them the specific feedback they need as game developers to fine tune there choices.

They don’t know what we want.
We don’t know what they want.
What the heck Blizzard? Please.

ā€œIn an effort to improve visual clarity when many heroes are on-screen, we’ve updated the art for the Hero Ring displayed underneath heroes. To reinforce this effort, we’ve also done a pass on the Unit Radii for all heroes. We understand that these radius adjustments will have a minor but intended impact on landing and dodging abilities, and as a result, felt that the 2019 Gameplay Updates were the best time to make these changes.ā€

Made sense to me and from what I’ve seen in my games I’m not noticing any difference, I’m still landing my skillshots just fine. Seems exaggerated to me overall this whole thing.

Smaller hit boxes = harder to land skillshots = improved git gud skill

depends on the skill shot. Some skill shot in general could technically be seen as easier like Azmodan, KT and BW since these skills shots are circular so smaller enemies would mean more fit in the circle and harder to run out of.

But then you have heroes like Stitches and Ana who require very precise accuracy to land their ability. Perhaps it is just me, but last I played stitches, if the enemy team had small heroes like Nova, it made it really difficult to land my Q on her.

This leads into multiple problems: it means skilled shots that are linear like Stitches that require accuracy due to their skills being thin (so think of Dehaka or Muradin or Nova) may possibiliy in the long run get less picked over the likes of heroes like Garrosh and Diablo. While the accuracy isn’t to the point of throwing a tamper-tantrums over, it does deserve some recognition because it did indirectly nerf heroes like Nova who was already doing pretty poorly.

While making the heroes small to enhance our gameplay visually, they do need to buff these heroes ability to land their skilled shots. Make it easier, perhaps by making their abilities bigger in generals: thicker tongue for Dehaka, bigger chain-hook for Stitches, bigger snipe bullet for Nova perhaps, just so the changes don’t affect them too much.

I agree - I main Nova and have not had any more problems than normal landing snipes.

It’s such a small change that it’s practically unnoticed though, I ran some Stitches myself and besides having to get my brain retrained at the hook range I had no issues. Ran some Jaina and I was still landing Q a lot from range. It won’t stop Dehaka or Muradin from getting picked at all, as for Nova this doesn’t have a huge effect like people were thinking. The things that make her not attractive to pick have nothing to do with skill shots.

I can almost 100% guarantee if they had thrown this change in and not listed it in the notes literally no one would have noticed.

It reduced friendly body blocking which is one of the most frustrating things in this game.

I agree that is a little annoying but there are other ways to fix that issue such as adding an allied collision tolerance (aka making the hit boxes smaller for allies touching each other only)

It’s not ā€˜that’ bad of a change but if you have even the slightest bit of lag just for a moment it makes it just too much and it makes complex situation perhaps a little unforgiving.

I really like the idea of ā€˜linear’ skill shots such as Ana’s heals, Stiches hook, Nova stuff, and Dehaka Q’s becoming ā€˜invisibly wider’ to compensate. I mean to see this thing pass right through someone is just frustrating.

I have not tried too much BW play with Q build in mind yet. But I might also consider making some skills like that, a little bigger in the sweet spot. My reasoning is simply although they are ā€˜bigger’, you can see it coming and a lot of the time you can easily avoid the middle unless you in the middle of a mess but then she’s probably going to land it anyway you’d hope.

But none of this fixes the annoying problem of trying to heal tiny Valeera (now 9% more unclickable) right next to OMG HUGE Diablo (now 5% less HUGE!)… lol
Sorry Valleera for all my fails but this mouse is not the best XD
