Heroes of the Storm Reborn

With the announcement of the HFC not making a return in 2019, it seems HoTS has started a steady decline towards being a defunct game. A rare situation on this day and age for a Blizzard game, however not completely unheard of. But with the situation as dire and desparate as it seems, there is a ray of hope, an idea that I’ve been wrapping my head around in the past few months, an overhaul, revival or reinvention of this game. Now, before you all call doom and gloom, please allow me a few minutes of your time to elaborate.

Back in 2010, the UpperDeck-YuGiOh scanadal erupted that almost killed of two WoW spin-off games, WoW TCG and WoW Minis. Though TCG was taken by Cryptozoic, formed by formed Blizzard employees who knew UD was going to loose WoW TCG and decided to keep it alive. That game essentially became HearthStone, which we are all very well aware of how huge and popular it is today.

However, the crisis for WoW Minis came in the era of the Miniature Games decay, that almost ended games like Heroclix whilst taking victims like StarWars, D&D and of course WoW Minis. This game however had a very good risk-reward system in which Team Composition and Strategic Planning where key in winning the game. Anyone else find these concepts familiar? Well you should, as that it what HoTS is based upon.

Now, with this in mind, I’m not suggesting for HoTS to become WoW Minis (though I’d love to), but rather make WoW Minis become HoTS. What this means is to make HoTS a Turn Based-MOBA of sorts, where you make a team comp of say 5 heroes, to manitain the HoTS formula, with the very same map mecanics that are present in the game but introduce the Turn-Based/Risk-Reward/Timer-Based mechanics of WoW Minis. With the vast array of heores and skins that HoTS has, this game could easily be transofrmed into a 1v1 (based on the number of players) rather than 5v5 game, as team based games seem to be becoming less popular over solitaire based games, again like HearthStone.

This could even mean that the PvE elements of WoW Minis could be introduced where a team of 2-3 or even 4 players take on a instance or raid-based boss (as each player could control 5 characters) and take on challenges that way as well.

This is of course a sort of hopefull dream of mine, but would love to hear your take on this idea and maybe HoTS could become relevant this way again.

And if any Blizz Devs are reading…please make this game come to consoles too, as having Ps4, XB1 and Switch players would just add to the player base and make more people interested.

“Your feedback is appreciated and we’ll think about your ideas…” <.< ^.^ >.>

This is the polite way to say hell no, right? Because making HotS -a cool action-based MOBA- a turn-based one would just simple kill the game for real.

How about instead of changing the game in such a drastic way that it’s actually creating a completely new one, we rather ask for that game as a new creation and not as the remake of one loved by thousands and thousands of ppl? Thx

I’d love to have WoW Minis reborn much like HS is still based only on WoW Characters. I’m not trying to make HoTS dissappear, I think it’s an awesome game and would love for Blizzard to find a way to keep it alive.

In regards to the action packed to turn based, I completely agree, though don’t disregard turn based as slow paced, as good plays can be made

The best TCG I ever played died. I still mourn every now and then when I stumble upon my old cards.

I never played minis, but I like turn based games. However, I also think that the very core of a game should not be changed drastically. It doesn’t magically bring new players, but sure does alienate the veterans. Unless your playerbase is enormous, the game might be dead before it picks up speed again.

Nice idea, though. Always appreciate thoughts how to make HotS better or more popular.

We don’t want Blizz Autochess.

About as defunct as WC3… meaning it will be supported as long as Blizzard remains in business.

I used to play the TCG all the time! Had an annoying druid token deck and then they mixed the classes up and added monsters as playable races and you could play as a druid hunter and deathknight shaman. It got crazy before it became HS.

I never heard of WoW mines before at all but I am still for an auto chess mode to be added to HotS. Maybe have it as a type of brawl if they ever bring normal brawls back.

I played mostly warlock in a myriad of variations. All specs.
Fun fact: I started playing WoW later down the line and named my first character after my favourite TCG hero: Pidge Filthfinder

I was the same way with my druid decks! Man I miss playing the TCG, HS ain’t got nothing on the physical card game and it feels a lot more restricted overall. HS is a shade of what the TCG was like. :skull_and_crossbones:
