Does it have an active community?
Does it receive regular updates?
Or to keep it simple, is it dead?

It has an active community, especially in NA and EU.
It does not receive regular updates (or indeed any content updates).
Call it what you will.
I see, so basically it just as it is and no future plans to improve the game are currently in bound?
Thanks!
Correct: it is what it is, no future plans.
people can still get matches online, some regions still host local tournaments; reddit or discords (esp for organized & custom games) are more active than the forums.
Any active staff for HotS have been currently moved to other game projects and blizzard is having a hard time hiring people this year due to lawsuits and incoming microsoft merger, so thereâs effectively no one to update the game at present, and itâll likely take a year for the merger to happen, and then a year for content for the game to be made should staffing issues get addressed, so the game is stymied for now and the foreseeable future.
We got this forum and Reddit so yes.
Not anymore so no. We might get a patch twice a year now and no map/hero will be added.
On a content perspektive its dead. On EU server we still have fast ques in ARAM and QM.
So on a game perspective its still alive but content wise its not.
Also tournament events (Heroes International happening right now).
30K (NA) defeated Bang Bush (EU) 4-1 in the Grand Final
Very very dead. No support, no patches. Nothing
A small one, but active.
Rarely, but do. (At least did so far.)
whatâs the status of the game?
Status: Leoric: you cannot kill that which has no life!
Itâs not alive, but not dead either. Either dying, or more like an undead. Walking, fun, but can feel rotten.
The frequency of posts and the number of unique users have dropped both here on the official forums and on Reddit. TBH, not by as much as I would have guessed, Hots does have a core loyal fanbase.
It should be noted, as others have reminded me that many dedicated Hots communities exist outside of these platforms, on private and public Discords and gaming guilds. Some of the smaller regions like ANZ have set up weekly ranked and custom games, so you might want to check that out if itâs your thing.
The Devs alluded to âoccasional balance patchesâ and âclient stabilityâ only.
Yes and no. Really itâs just a âfinished game.â Itâs not so terrible for a game that was launched in 2015. It will die when the playerbase gets too low to sustain game modes, which has already happened on some servers.
Walking dead status.
Dead, which is a shame, had the potential to be the best top down moba out there. And it didnât die so much as blizzard just gave up on it when it didnât turn into a e-sports unicorn. They could have kept generating cash off it indefinitely like LOL and DOTA but they just kinda quit. HOTS is a lot of potential buried in a pile of missed opportunities.
Still playable, but donât expect fair matches and what not, you must accept the game for what it is. Due to dwindling player base, the matches are a complete coin toss.
NA/EU probably still have ranked matches, Iâm out here in Asia, itâs near impossible to get ranked matches unless you are willing to wait up to half an hour.
Whats with people saying games that arent getting updates anymore dead? Like no one in the right minds gonna call smash ultimate a dead game.
For me a multiplayer game isnt dead until theres no one left to fill lobbies.
If you want better suited matches you might want to join Heroes Hearth, Heroes Lounge or Nexus Gaming Series
Whoever hasnât left yet switched either to OW2, already is or plans to play WOW and many others will soon jump onto Diablo. Can keep denying it as long as you want but regardless the game might be history by Spring. If I were to start listing non Blizzard titles, it will look even more grim.
The population is very much alive however it is a pale shadow of what it once, or worse yet even compared to what it only recently was. You may get the wrong impression on the number of active players on EU because theyâre all thrown into different language general chats. These were always full and rejoining one would usually put you into a separate instance because the first one was constantly at full capacity, not anymore. Thereâs a handful of randoms at best.
The downward trend is very obvious and as someone who mostly played during dead of night or early morning hours, Iâve noticed a significant lack of players where it canât even start a quick match, something unheard of only half a year ago.
It could never be a Unicorn when the matchmaking was so horrible.
Never even had a chance, they delayed and delayed and delayed the new ranking system till the game died, then released it when it was already too late.
The status of this game: Aram is the only viable game mode now but the game is full of trolls, leavers, AFKs and crybabies that report you for anything. It is a dead game.
Every 08/15 dude thinks he can be a great pro gamer some day.
