One of the more intriguing aspect of hots for me has to be healing reduction : how impactful is it esp. when enemy hardly have any heal in their composition?
It can be very strong. One Ana nade into an Alexstraza AoE completely negates it. Varian has a heal reduction at 13 that can make it so no healer can stop him from pummeling something to death.
The bottom line is these talents make getting kills easier when the healer is there trying to stop you. These talents don’t really make sense if the enemy has no healer tho. Unless of course you’re playing against heroes with strong self sustain. In that case they help guarantee the kill and often quickly too.
Play malth vs dehaka
Step 1 . Turn on heal denial
Step 2 . laugh
Another one
Cast last rites
Turn on heal denial and see them panick
Its strong. If well timed it has insane potential.
But for some reason Ana has 100% deny on basic AoE ability while everyone else has it on a talent and not 100%…
Throw Biotic Grenade on Dehaka who is just about to finish Adaptation. Or on someone about to get Ancestral Healed. Or Kharazim whose Divine Palm is about to trigger.
Zero healing.
Xul with Q build and lvl 20 talent that give 75% healing reduction for multiple heroes if hit correctly.
Just imagine what you’d feel when you just tapped the healing fountain and bum! biotic grenade from Ana… ![]()
Yeah…
Imagine needing to hit lvl 20 and pick storm talent to be able to give 75% healing reduction on delayed spell going in a straight line, hoping to hit multiple targets…
Versus
Basic ability since lvl 1 which is AoE, hits numerous heroes and has 100% healing reduce without needing a talent for it.

sounds fair.
Anna and Xul are also 2 wide diffrent heroes so that make sense talent wise.
Anna is a anti healer hero that can deny healing to enemy heroes. Its part of her kit. while other heroes have to wait to get the healing reduction later on.
Also Xul can give 75% healing reduction every 5 sec with Q quest done at 20 while Anna have to wait 16 sec (14) if she goes for full grenade build.
All heroes are diffirent, most heroes would get an invuln as ulti, yet murky and tassadar have it as a basic ability. Thats how balance goes.
100% Heal denial was something they had to add to the game because the 2 healer meta had been popular for very long and still had a risk to show up. Even if they would draft it now, they either can risk facing ana against her, or they had to ban/draft her first which can reveal their draft tactic.
I know.
But still 50 or 75% would be enough.
Mainly after giving her pierce on heal baked and people can go full granade build.
First, if ana is being such hazard to your team with that 100% reduction, your team already made at least 1 mistake:
- They went QM
or - They failed the draft
But even then, you have alternative counters to such healing reduction: Protect, shields. And in most cases, even when it hits, its going to deny 1 basic healing ability. In most fights thats not going to matter that much, unless its your only source of healing (which comes back to the failing of a draft).
A failed draft doesnt mean an instant loss (unless it was a horrible one to begin with), it can be difficult, but talents are capable of compensating.
Even in her grenade build, ana often enough has to use the grenades to heal her own team. An ana that isnt doing that is weakening her own team. Those attacks that can hit are usualy showing up to be powerful as it assists at finishing an enemy.
This finish could have also happened by diffirent heroes. Heroes that usualy dont synergize well with ana due to hypermobility. Which is even more of a reason for ana to still provide such capability.
Also, some heroes have additional 100% healing reductions because when they are blinded, their AA doesnt provide healing.
And lastly, i rather see more heroes having a slight ‘over the top’ effect in their kit, then having just safe heroes. These ‘over the top’ effects can be reasons to draft them, they can result in variety in a lot of matches, they ensure that you cannot rely on the same draft every game.
This is purely a L2P issue.
Healing reduction is usefull against self healing heavy heroes too.
