I was low masters for 3+ seasons when I was playing then, today I played 3 games that were so low quality I started questioning my sanity.
Nothing was reset. But a huge number of masters and GM’s quit HotS to play other games.
Were you playing QM or SL?
If QM, players returning from a long break might even get lv0 allies for a while, and only Cursed Hollow.
Rank also decays now.

Played 1 QM and 2 ranked games. But the players I got had no basic underastandings. They didn’t know how/when to soak. When to take a fight. They didn’t even rotate. I’m talking full on ARAM players. No soaking, no rotation, 0 knowledge of the game. When I tried explaining how to rotate, they just couldn’t comprehend and started flaming me for soaking a lane. EXTREMELY LOW games.

Sounds about right, that is a common experience of the state of HotS in solo queue in 2020 if you read Reddit/this forum
(those players always existed, and people have always had complaints, but player quality seems to have dropped vastly in 2019-2020).
Premades are the only solution atm.

wayback when, not playing consecutive seasons would have an effect on ranked mmr, though I don’t remember if it was just confidence loosening or decay or what, but in that lapse ranked was also then merged into Storm League instead and mmr mapped directly to rank.
So depending on which seasons you jumped ship, you may have sunk yourself pretty low and would have to complete your placements to confirm, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t even place you in gold.
If it’s decay that would explain a lot, talking about 2 years after all. If i remember correctly (which I doubt) last thing I played was hero league/solo q, idk its exact label. But I thought the decay stopped once it dropped you out of diamond.
Just played on infernal shrines and my teammates were contesting obj 4v5 and no one was soaking bottom lane. I’m talking both teams left bot lane, 1v1 top 4v4 mid. When I moved bot to soak they started flaming me. And when I tried to explain how to rotate mid/bot repeatedly as 4, they couldn’t grasp the concept and kept flaming. We had jaina so I said “blizzard mid blizzard bot repeat”.
The lowest I’ve been is gold and I’m 100% positive I’m lower than that rn.
GLHF to anyone still playing. I don’t intend to play such low games, I’ve put my time and effort to climb out of this hell before I’m not going to again.

That’s the type of games in general that you get.
And more often than not, whoever gets the “black sheep(s)” in their team usually loses so it’s a coin toss on which type of people you’re gonna get.
It’s also the reason I don’t play as much hots as I probably would like since I still think the game is pretty cool.
If you were low masters then your rank has decayed to Diamond 5 after 2 years away in SL, which isn’t rally a terrible punishment for 2 years absent.
So the league you’re now playing in is low diamond, get used to it until you climb.
They has soft reset the rank mmr when they remove the promotion and demotion game.
Also, high rank mmr decay overtime.

Masters in 2017 are low diamonds at best. Yes a lot of good players left, but a lot of people improved so the standerd of getting good is higher
Just add the first guy who is decent so you wont have to suffer trough solo queue and the game can be fun again
Players are improving? Unlike LoL the player quality at each rank has gone down

Lol. You clearly didn’t see how good people were in 2015-2016. What you have now is a sorry joke. Today’s master is platinum or gold of 2016.
When blizzard killed HGC most of the good players stopped taking this game seriously.

What? You seen what potatoes you had in 2016? They were terrible. game was just officially released. Nobody knew what to do, some heroes were straight up broken like kt and thrall.

But to say all the good players left is just a poor excuse why most people arent winning everything. Smurfing was much more used in 2018 then now
