General tutorial

Hi guys, Im playing HotS for 3 years. Before this game I’ve never played any MOBA. I can understand that the beginnings may be hard, but some players are utterly rubbish.
I’ve decided to share with u my knowledge and maybe help you a bit in your painfull road.

You can dissagree but for me playing casually and losing most of my games isn’t fun at all, so before jumping into any game i try to read about its mechanics.
Of course there is a specific number of heroes u need to lvl-up to be able to play ranked but most often people just play mindlessly even with high account lvl.

Lets start with the tutorial. There are a few rules you should always have in mind to get better.

1.Don’t be toxic, and don’t judge people by their account level before taking a look at their winrate and kda.
2. If you are obviously being carried by someone better than you, try to watch this player and play around him.
3. Don’t get offended by every criticism but think about what someone is trying to tell you and improve
4.Draft to counter and not to be countered, pick what your team needs/lack
-there is no rule that a “perfect team” consists from a tank+healer+mage+ranged aa+spec. It’s bull…!
5. Watch the mini map/ pings and don’t get ganked by the enemy, predict their movement and actions, prevent them from getting boss etc.
6. Don’t fight if you are outnumbered.
7. Try not to be late for objectives. It should only happen if you are defending fort from a camp or you are a global with teleport trying to soak some exp to gain advantage over enemy team.
8. Replenish your mana BEFORE OBJECTIVE otherwise you are useless dmg sponge,
9.Look at the enemy composition, if they have heroes with gank potential, avoid going far into a lane, stay near gates instead and just soak exp.
10.Stop doing camps mindlessly, a good camp is a well timed one, for example. shaman camp on battlefield of eternity claimed just before the objective to force enemy team to defened a lane and split, making it 4 vs 5 situation.
11.Try to gank the enemy before objective or when they are out of position
12. Set traps, stop face-checking bushes
13. Learn map strategy, who is a solo laner, which lane is a solo lane, maybe rotate as 4.
14. Do skill combos with your teammates, dont just spam your abbilities if they are on cooldown ( Diablo “E” freeing enemy which should be killed, cuz its avaliable!!!)
15.Sometimes its worth to die, stop avoiding death if it benefits your team, or u have a revive option. If i means you die killing 3 enemy heroes its worth it. Dying with Uther isn’t that bad, he can still heal after death and maybe win a teamfight that way.
16. Use body blocking.
17. Learn propper builds.

You can be good mechanically, but from what I’ve seen positioning and timing are the most important things in the game. Try to improve those aspects and you will skyrocket through the ranks

Currently I have no other ideas, or some things are just to complex to explain and are just gained through experience.

Feel free to correct me and add something. I’m not native, sry for my grammar.

This is arguably not the case for beginners. In 99.99% of cases, it is better that you draft something you can play better rather than what the team needs.

Players can adapt around not having a specific role in the team, but they cannot adapt to having a feeder, 3rd wheel. I’d prefer playing without a tank or healer than having one of those who can’t do their job. At least i will know not to engage directly but setup smart traps instead

This is 100% true, also this tutorial is not only for beginners but for everyone. I’ve seen lvl 2000+ still in silver. They have experience but in most cases don’t know the rules above.

Other players may suggest u picking a hero that will make the whole comp struggle.

You will continue to see even higher level silvers and that is because the MMR difference between a player who has played 5000+ matches is much different than some one who comes in with barely any MMR established. You can even cheat the system by leveling the heroes you need vs AI games for League. Then play your way up through about 3.5k MMR on QM (Not hard to do). Then que for your placements. You will always cap on highest placement and your games played for your MMR will mean that you will BENEFIT MORE from every game won. So when you win your first 2 placements. You will be playing closer to higher ranks.

People stuck in Gold/Silver/Bronze hells is because they are stuck around people with the same MMR profile as them. Whilst a very few Bronze players KNOWINGLY put themselves there or think it’s ok to get up and walk away from the game while they get their pizza. Different story there. But you could be performing as best as you can and the problem is you are just stuck in casual hell because of bad MMR design. Any other game would wipe the MMR clean after so long and let people establish as if it was day one again.

If you really don’t believe me then you can make a smurf account and unlock the cheapest heroes and you will see how fast you can enter Diamond. Doesn’t mean you are better than a Gold/Platinum/Diamond player. But I easily made Diamond 1 with less than 500 games compared to my long time battle net account with over 4000 games. How is that suppose to make sense?

@LoFat

You can’t seed a new account from Quick Match to high ranks anymore. Inactive accounts that haven’t played ranked for a long time with previous MMR are capped to Platinum 5 and brand new accounts with no previous MMR are capped to Gold 5 assuming they win 10 placement games (as of patch 2018-5-11, link below)

The only way a new smurf can have diamond or master at the moment is by grinding there from the low leagues and actually beating other diamonds and masters.
