Game needs an all-chat. I'll explain why

People get into a game hungry for blood. But not just any blood. Attacking opponents isn’t enough. It doesn’t satisfy their feral rage.

People are hungry for chat blood.

They wanna make someone else as mad as they are. And nothing satisfies that like chat can. To be able to SEE it.

And so what happens is, these people get into a game and go for the chat aggro. The problem is that you can only chat with your team. So these people get into games just FOAMING at the mouth - and the closest target they have, and only reachable one, is their teammates. They now spend all game calling out every bad thing that happens to their teammates, rather than playing the game themselves. Tanks will stay behind fights, just so they can “call someone out” for dying. Healers won’t heal someone that made them angry. DPS will avoid fights because tanks aren’t tanking and healers aren’t healing, and EVERYONE does nothing but try to avoid the “Chat Aggro”.

The large majority of games is a battle against your own team, rather than a battle against the opposing. I think nobody would deny that. But it’s about time we properly identify one of the largest contributors to this.

The lack of all-chat.

Simply turning off party chat not only doesn’t prevent OTHERS from still pursuing the Chat Aggro… But also comes with the obvious penalty that you’re muting your own teammates. Ignoring has the same exact problem - you’re still ignoring parts of your team, and through all their mouth-foam, they may give some relevant, important information.

Turning on all-chat makes this Chat Aggro get redirected to your INTENDED foes. Instead of trying to bait teammates into things you can Chat Aggro them with, these players will be focused on actually winning the game so that they can Chat Aggro about BEATING other people.

And frankly, there’s no downside to all-chat. Will it increase toxicity? No. It redirects any that already exists. People can still have their profanity filters. People can opt to turn off all-chat, or opt to turn it on, who cares. Those people looking for Chat Aggro will opt to turn it on for sure.

But ultimately… It will make games much more bearable when your own teammates are, finally, trying to beat the OPPONENTS for once instead of their own team.

I don´t even want to type out what is coming back at you seconds after.

Seriously all chat would be overkill both in regards to trolls and salt. If at all it should only be available after the game ended (MVP screen).

Including the enemy chat in the replay would be nice though (can be added after the game ended to prevent people using 3rd party software to listen to it during the game).

I do sometimes feel that all chat would be a good thing but then i think of all the toxic people and feel like it would be a bad time.

heck every now and then i get toxic and sometimes i wouldn’t be able to help myself from flaming the enemy.

I like the idea of all chat but i just thing too much bad mojo would come from it.

you see where I’m getting at?

Yeah man, but that’s p.r.e.c.i.s.e.l.y. my point.

That bad mojo is already there. I strongly believe an all-chat would redirect that bad mojo & toxicity to the opponents, rather than to teammates. And those opponents? Who cares - they can just turn off all-chat. It does zero harm. But it fixes everything!

Last time I played LoL, we had a really long match, 45 minutes there, and we ultimately won because at some point towards the end a member of the enemy team left. Some of them mocked us with “lol you won just because it was 4v5”. I congratulated them for being skilled players and making us work hard even being 1 more, and all the response I got was “ur morons”.

What about people stop acting like jerky 12 years old ?

What if you get paired with the enemy next game on your team?

And this might sound stupid but i’d rather piss off 4 people instead of 5.

Because most of the time i feel like i’m not a toxic dingus.

That usually happens on their 13th birthday.

Jokes aside it virtually never happens for a good chunk of people before the day that makes them not have any more birthdays.

If you want all chat you have custom games.

All chat will serve no purpose in QM or Ranked play and the devs will prefer to see players focus on team work than trash (or not) talking the other side.

Sure there are these none spoiled apples who wouldn’t say a word in all chat but it’s not gonna happen.

Because you can’t put out a HotS patch that says, “players will no longer be jerky 12 year olds.”

So we can either ignore the problem, or start changing in-game things that can manipulate the way these people behave.

An all-chat will make toxic people direct their toxicity towards opponents rather than teammates. Not always, but more times than not.

I don’t feel like you were listening to very much of what was said, my man.

All-chat in custom games is irrelevant. All-chat is to FIX toxicity among teammates.

If devs prefer to see players focus on teamwork rather than trash talk, I’ll just assume devs don’t watch anything outside of tournament games. Because as the game stands right now, there’s a TON of trash talk. And right now, it’s ALL condensed into team chat.

So you have two options:

  1. Ten tons of trash talk trapped within team chat.
  2. Ten tons of trash talk dispersed between team chat and all-chat.

Which one of these two options is the better environment? Which one would you wanna be around? Because I know my answer.

I know the topic comes off as a kind of meme suggestion, but I’m actually quite serious about it.

I want you guys to give it a serious thought, as well. Actually read what I’ve said. Actually absorb it, and think on the perspective. I think a lot of you will end up truly understanding what I’m seeing. What I envision.

All chat = All Silenced. Okay, I’m exaggerating, but it will increase reporting and it won’t reduce toxic behaviour.

At this point I would be happy if players in HL and TL actually typed anything. Most are far too afraid of getting an unfair silence you’re lucky if they just shadow picks.

Touchy snowflakes do that. A few times I was so mad at my teammates, I screamed irl like a neurotic, also hit the desk, maybe even the keyboard, but never refused to heal a teammate. This is a team game even we have retards, trolls, misplaced bronzes, douchebags or whoever makes us mad. We are the blue team and we have to fight together. If you refuse to cooperate at any level, you are not better than any teammate you are mad at.

So I just played a match. I said… "Remember, folks. The 3 golden rules, of which I will make up right now:

  1. Fight opponents, not each other.
  2. Maintain formation, don’t chase for no reason.
  3. Butts."

And our Auriel said, “no those aren’t the rules, the rules are 1) don’t die before obj, 2) don’t be late to obj, 3) don’t die for no reason”

So I made the mistake of saying… “That’s kinda like saying the 3 rules are, 1) win 2) win 3) win”

And this blasted this guy into full rage all game. Went off about how many games he’s played, how long he’s played, he knows the rules, blah blah blah. He started feeding, but on accident. He would sit in the middle of a lane typing a sentence at 7 WPM. Going on about his greatness while dying. Other people started getting mad. Valla said he was gonna report Auriel. I said Auriel didn’t really do anything worth reporting. Eventually, Stitches was trying to get Auriel to stop talking and start playing. Then, our Thrall snapped at me because we both got involved in a 2v5, we almost killed enemy Sonya, Thrall died, and I opted to not Living Bomb the Sonya & survive, rather than kill Sonya and die to 4 people immediately after. So he called me a b**** for running, and he tilted against me.

The whole game was a chat sshow. And even though I may have inadvertently started it by saying ANY REMOTE THING that goes against someone else’s grain, I couldn’t help but feel… What if there WAS an all-chat in that game? Perhaps none of that woulda happened. Perhaps Auriel was out for chat blood. And perhaps Auriel woulda latched onto the first blood we got on the enemies, rather than me giving somewhat friendly “3 golden rules” and him having to use it as an excuse to flaunt some basic s that he thought was a genius-level ruleset that only he could come up with from his vast experience in HotS.

Like…

Come on, guys. You have to see it.

Unless I’m the only one who gets all this chat toxicity in most of their games? Maybe you guys get it in a very minor portion?

I know man, but like… “Blah blah blah,” ya know? My response to this is like my response in my other thread, about people who leave in draft make my game get voided. If I outplay them in draft, do I not deserve something for it? Drafting is part of the game. Just because the map isn’t loaded yet doesn’t make it less than what it is. I don’t care about what happens to the leaver. What happens to him does not affect me & my account.

So my response here is similar.

Saying I’m no better, or worse, or whatever… Being the better man, etc etc… None of that does anything. I don’t lose less rating because I fought less in chat.

I want changes to be made! Why are gamers always so complacent? Fight to improve the gaming quality of life. Stop just accepting things as they are.

And… we come full circle. That is precisely my reason for making this thread. I fully believe an all-chat would drastically reduce the team hostility.

I need you guys to see it, too. I believe the biggest mental block is that people are figuring, “enable the ability to talk to more people? Well of course that just equals more toxicity!” But that’s short-sighted. That toxicity already exists. Why contain it inside the team chat bottle? Why not let it out onto the enemies, so that LESS of it is going onto teammates?

I really don’t think you’re seriously arguing for all chat. But take your scenario, you would still get the touchy player you triggered, but then you would have the enemy team chime in and say “your Auriel is terrible, blah, blah”.

You would then have people from your team try to lobby people in the other team to report that Auriel who is “toxic and feeding” and really, more chat isn’t better chat.

What we need is to all grow up, take some responsibility for our mistakes in games, understand it’s a team game and play it accordingly, have rules that make it possible that people can talk strategy without being afraid of getting silenced.

All chat isn’t going to improve this, it will just add five more people to up the chances of toxic behaviour and add whole new methods to troll communication.

I see no issue with an all chat. Bliz has given us the tools to ignore people, leave chats and things like that,

However there will be idiots that will say something in all chat like “let’s get boss” or something like that trolling or by mistake… if it was not for that I would agree but far to many bad calls in all chat can leads to bad things.
