I have been having this problem for months now where only some of my friends on my friends list show up in game. I can see that they are playing in the app launcher but in game they don’t show up. They are not listed in the /w command. If I message them in the app launcher to start a whisper. I can not respond to them in game or whisper to them in game. I can whisper them in the app launcher. I can see their msgs and my sent msgs from the app launcher show up in the games chat log. View profile says they do not have a profile on my realm, it also gives me the “add friend” option but clicking on it says unable to find this friend. I can report them. They can see me just fine. Other people can see them.
It’s really annoying because it happens to majority of the people on my friends list. It seems to happen to the same friends every time. The problem always persists. Today I could see 11 of my friends were playing on the app launcher. While only 3 of them were visible in game. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am assuming this bug is a result of the expanded friend list that happened a while back.
Update: So I have been talking with people in game and apparently I am not the only one experiencing this issue. It seems to happen only to players with large friend lists. I had 2 experiences recently that the bug was affecting both me and the person I wanted to group up with. So we couldn’t form a party unless we had 3rd mutual friend who was on.
I think that not many people are talking about this issue even if it is effecting them because they don’t realize it’s happening till you point out to them to compare their battle launcher friend list to their in game friend list.

I’ve notice this too from time to time, it feels like restarting the b-net app or logging out and back into the game would fix it but I’m not 100% sure on that because I personally haven’t tried any of that to fix it. Keep in mind ppl can go into offline status but depending on when you do it, it can bug out as well.

The thing is it always happens. I have one friend I play with pretty regularly. I asked if he was appearing offline said he is not. I can restart my computer, relaunch HOTS, relaunch battle.net. They just will not appear in game. I have had this problem for months now and nothing seems to fix it. That’s the biggest thing is it’s the same friends will not show up. Regardless if they are in the game or not.

Yeah I don’t know, that really sucks if you are trying to get a group together. What you can do is make a in-game chat channel I believe you just /join (put name of channel here) so /join ZERO and now you have a channel for everyone on your friends list to join. From there you can invite to your group whoever /join-that channel.
Just let your friends know the name of your channel. (your channel can be named w/e you want it to be I just used your name as an example)

I have noticed this yesterday. Someone who is not appearing as offline isn’t showing on friend list but is entirely visible as looking for more on the home screen.

This is still a persisting issue. That is causing problems.

This has been happening to me as well for months, and it is so freaking frustrating !
I didn’t know a large friend list was the cause of it, so I guess I have to remove as many potential friends as possible…
Same thing here, for me it’s just 1 friend (Real ID friend) but it’s never works with them.
I can’t even see them online, offline or in game (and I’m the one that recruited them).
If I go to the Recruit a Friend page, they show up without being a friend and the add friend ICON is there, I click Add friend and it says “this person is already your friend”.
I can see them when playing WOW together or on an alt account but never on here.
Edit: I can join a channel (/join ANZ) and can see them there
