First person view?

Done a short search for this and not sure if its up already but a first person view in this game could be really fun. obviously some kind of fog of war would need to come into play or some such.

It’s called Overwatch.

I don’t think I’d want people to see even less of what’s happening round them.

I cannot fathom the amount of work needed to ensure everyone’s skills, mechanics, and whatever else would not be broken transitioning from the current RTS styled camera positioning to first person.

May as well just make a new game entirely rather than even bother with such a colossal undertaking.

Like that Raynor FPS game

My knowledge of Star Craft is rather abysmal, but I’ll just go ahead and assume it was bad.

You mean like Smite?

Wow! It’s like you read my mind!

The only Starcraft FPS was Starcracft Ghost, which was scrapped.

I think a Diablo FPS centered around a Demon Hunter would actually be an interesting concept, especially if taking into account how squishy they are and how lore wise they rely excessively on traps, position, mobility, and tactics in order to survive. It’s a universe that has a lot of room for such an idea, and would be a different direction to what most modern fps aim for. Being that somehow Demon Hunter’s made automated crossbows, one handed crossbows, and other goodies it would be a throwback Darkwatch on the Playstation 2. If ya’ll never played it, that was a hidden gem.

Disregard Valla, the nephalem, and all that. Just some random Demon Hunter named Todd or Tiffany that struggles against basic demons. Don’t need that super hero stuff. Just a long trek through the woods with a heavy emphasis on the Demon Hunter’s past, lore of the world, and why they are after some particular demon that would just be a speed bump for a run of the mill Diablo protagonist.

Some abomination of a mixture of The Hunt, Dark Souls, and Diablo.

Oh you didn’t miss anything, it never happened. The game was announced in 2002 then cancelled in 2006. The main Character was actually Nova, but I remember at the time, a lof of fans, myself included, were stoked, hoping Raynor would be a playable char.

The game was called Starcraft: Ghost

The game’s Story though was published in a novel. StarCraft Ghost: Nova

However. There are a lot of rumors right now that Blizzard are working on a Starcraft FPS. And they seem legit.

Also, Starcraft 1 & 2 are available on X-Box gamepass since November.

A game like that was actually made. it was called Hellgate London. But servers were closed in 2008 I think. But you can still play it single player.

Yeah okay I heard of Ghosts but did not look too far into it. All I know is that there were complaints that Nova dropped a notch or two on the hotness scale and that she was the main character.

Starcraft did not interest me as at the time as when I was into RTS I was a hardcore Command and Conquer player, that and I did not know it even existed until I burned myself out of RTS altogether to the point I struggle against medium A.I on a good day.

Which looking back I should have because Generals onwards was a total mess in terms of balance. Not even Tiberium Wars 3/Kane’s Wrath, arguably the best in the C@C line, were balanced.

Without using goofy glitches (alas, invincible aura bombers) the King Raptor in Zero Hour was arguably the most absurd air unit in the game. If you picked the randomizer and were not GLA or China at the least (you really needed to be the Chinese infantry General) you had to hope that the Air Force General had no idea what they were doing, otherwise you may as well ALT+ F4. I am not joking; not raging. You had no chance against a good Air Force General. Maybe if you were good with the GLA leader Juhziz, but you better get those bomb bikes out before the Air Force General gets his comanches, or ya gonna have a bad time.

Because there was this cute little thing with Granger’s combat chinook where he can just stuff anything in it, no matter the unit, and it’ll fire out. So if the Air Force General wanted to get his funny on he can get a couple combat chinooks, stuff artillery in them, and just zoom past with missiles as big as the aircraft firing out the side. Of course gotta use the drones to increase their range and the Strategy Center to Search and Destroy so you can bomb the next county over doing a drive by.

A little less ridiculous was two humvees (each packed with infantry) firing out with two snipers chilling in the aircraft itself. Put five missile infantry in each humvee and just call it a day. Or four with flash bang totting rangers to deal with enemy infantry in structures.

Or for anti-air shenanigans put two avengers in one (get so many anti-missile lasers), and just park them in your pass. Nothing short aura bombers getting past, and those will get deleted on the return trip.

…I have fond memories. I may or may not have subjected people to the above or been on the receiving end of such shenanigans.

In Tiberum Wars. whoever thought Scrin was fine, especially their aircraft…I just want to throw hands with them. Especially pre-Kane’s Wrath.

Hellgate is another game I heard of but wasn’t interested in at the time, I only recall it getting its plug pulled, with it looking like some mix of Diablo and Doom.

tell that to people playing while high/drunk :3

That doesn’t look like a text written by someone who struggles against C&C medium A.I. lol.

My play was just stubbornly trying to get an engineer in enemy buildings.
Then loosing.

came here for this

2 more characters

My skills atrophied badly after I stopped playing against others, and there is a major difference between playing against players as opposed bots from what I can recall. Bot matches usually were a grind fest in building up defenses to then hammer them back; turtling.

Last time I played a dedicated PC RTS was LOTR: BFME 2 and I struggled against the medium A.I. Granted, it was the elves, and they’re archers are OP, but it was still medium A.I.

When I played competitively in the lower tiers in Generals and the expansion pack you could spam units to win, but as one climbs the ranks and started facing off against people that had more than two brain cells it became a rat race of with one, maybe two, big fights before the game was over. If fights even broke out that is.

The most intense matches were the ones restricted to base GLA, USA, or China, as there were no over the top units nor were there any major disadvantages other than their factions. Most people went with either GLA or USA. China was too sluggish and late game oriented to pose much of a threat, especially against a good GLA player. Their economy would get wally whooped before they could field China’s stronger units.

The two generals that almost always handed me my backside, outside of glitches, were USA Air Force General and the GLA Demolition General. The former it was anyone with more than two brain cells, and the latter was mostly one player whose name I feel I fogotten due to how much trauma he put me through.

Juhziz was a sleeper general; if he got his bomb bikes out (they could go over any terrain and were some of the fastest units in the game) it was game over if you didn’t have fast response units. He was hard to use as his gimmick was sacrificing units to take enemies with him, but in the hands of someone who knew how to play him he was a nightmare.

If you faced off against a pro Juhziz player and somehow survive to the ten minute mark, they’re messing with you, and probably has three quarters of the map rigged to go kaboom. You are then playing mine sweeper.

You have a higher chance of winning, but like with starting a fist fight with a skunk, you are not gonna be happy when it is over with.

USA super weapon general was also another problem child, but no one was allowed to use her competitively. Most people used her as a one trick pony with her aura alpha bombers which were absurd. Outside of those bombers she wasn’t that great of a general.

If memory serves me right, super weapon generals always got ganged up on during free for alls.

RTS quiz tomorrow at eleven.

Appreciate the notifiaction. I was watching with mild interest but the reviews are not favorable. There is also the fact I have quite a few rts games already, so do not really need another one.

Whenever I get the itch I fire up the old dinosaur of a Dell in my basement to play Generals: Zero Hour with the Shockwave mod.
