When are you supposed to pick this build? When the enemy drafts a double tank? How do you safely get stacks reliably? I’m trying to understand which comp would make this a safe pick over Q build.
I retract my claim that Crash Lightning takes too long to complete after having experienced Dishonorable Discharge.
I think it’s in the offlane or roamer against Illidan, Malthael, Yrel and Artanis (block lvl 1). It’s “ok” into skirmishes. You really just need 30 stacks to get some value out of it.

I’m pretty sure W build was nerfed to the ground, so it’s not worth picking anymore. Against double tank AA build should be better with % damage later on.
Aside from the time when it was busted, I think W build was picked against nimble heroes. But again, not worth it anymore if I’m not mistaken.

you see the trick is to NOT pick that dumpster fire of a build
falstad now is really bad, before rework his w build was pretty usefull, you could bribe camps and get dmg from it, now is nearly impossible to complete the quest and deals crappy dmg, Q build used to deal significant dmg and was pretty cool, now it does crappy dmg, also AA build is the only strong build but the big flaw is u need to put urself in AA range wich is bad because falstad has the constitution of wet paper, and unless ur own team protects you a lot you will die a lot with AA, so basically falstad is crappy now
Good. Point and click should be less rewarded
You wanna nerf point and click nerf Diablo or Varian but they did Falstad dirty.
Not saying W build wasn’t way too good for too long, but I AM saying it was fine before the buffs and now it has no value or role and that’s a shame. There is some skill to clicking it and staying in range without getting pummeled. It was a fun build. R.I.P.

Auto attacks are arguably more skillful than a fire and forget tether spell like falstad W. Auto attacking requires precise clicking while stutterstepping. You can attack move but risk attacking the wrong target.
At least Varian isn’t a good tank and his E isn’t long range. 5 range on his mobility/engage is really low for a tank so that’s ok. Diablo is slightly longer at 7 range so I guess it is stronger but for a tank engage it’s still low assuming the enemy assassins actually stay behind their tank.
His hammer build is bunkers now tho. Just watch any mage lose 70% of thier hp with a single hammer late game with 150+ stacks. And on top you have a talent that now on top reduce spell armor by 15.
Because Varian suffer from incompetent teammates that cant figure out how to focus all thier dmg on the Taunted hero. He req more teamwork then any other tank. If no one follow up on his playstyle then he ends up being useless and its properly also why so many Varian players role Smash or Twinblade insteed. Cause they want to have freedom to do whatever they think work best for them and not what his team think.
Twinblade and Smash give him more freedom to carry alone without his incompetent teams help. But ofc then his team have to accept they wont have a tank on thier team.
It goes both ways in the end. What goes for Diablo as a tank. He is best played in a aggressive teamcomp that can dive with him. You wont get any value with him if you play him in a team were you have to babysit every single mage on your team that runs crying home the moment they get dived on.

Tooton in a nutshell again…
Varian is a very good tank for his purpose, he even sees plays in KhaldorTV and probably CCL too.
On topic: And it’s obvious that they overnerfed Falstad’s W. 100 stacks + harder getting stacks + reset after completion is an overnerf. They should revert one of this things. They probably should just make it like the old one, but the reset-ability should stay as reward for lategame. Some players already said that Falstad was only probematic due to bugs and not really imbalanced by how he was working.
What’s the point having a quest you realistically never be able to complete?

Varian is a good tank. Maybe not all purpose but strong purpose.
Also stutter stepping is skillfull but it isn’t required. And if you decide not to pursue a backliner or just anyone retreating to a position that’s not safe for you you don’t end up with a 12 second cooldown on auto attack.
Imagine attacking someone once and turning around when you see their team but you can’t AA now because you pulled back.
I’m not trying to override your points I’m just hoping to make mine clearer

When the enemy has no or low CC. But then you’ll win no matter what you pick.
Q build damage was super low. It was buffed…twice.
