False Reports what can be done about them

There is nothing that can be done about false reports is there? In the last game that I played, someone in the lobby asked me to explain my APM on vikings in the previous game so I gave him some tips. I said absolutely nothing offensive then, nor in the game. I’d like to add that he did nothing but complain about our tank which baffles me as our tank played fine and he was offlaning. At the end of the game I attempted to message him to offer more tips as in the lobby he seemed to not understand what I had to say and even alluded to him thinking that I might have been scripting in some way (I’d like to add, at this point, that my APM isn’t even high - it’s probably about 120 to 160 peeking 200 on vikings) by saying, ‘this guy is not a bot at all’, only to find that he had reported me. I have saved the replay and wish to share it with Blizzard, as I have had accounts banned for language in the past when I never actually say anything offensive. I have the replay to that game saved as well to validate the fact that I, indeed, do not use a script.

What can be done about false reports?

I’ve complained often about false reports, but in your specific case, I’d be shocked if you receive an account action because you were reported for “botting.”

Speaking more broadly about the report system, barring a miracle, or MS changing the report policies (I’m not sure what the quality of MS report systems are), we’re unlikely to see any changes made.

The last change made to the report system was in 2018, I don’t think we’ve had a single change since then.

What can be done? Nothing. You just pray and hope the automated system don’t get to you.

What should be done? Blizzard should have a better report system where people false reporting (people who actively false report every single game) actually get punished for that and their reports count less and less.

In your case I doubt anything will happen though, since it was only 1 report apparently.

People like this are low I.Q. and self loathing, so trying to be kind often results in them retaliating because of something they’re projecting onto you. This horrific reporting system is similar to real life, where people are incentivized to call 911 about anything they feel like and they’re first given the benefit of the doubt just because they called.

No its all automated just like it is in WoW. You just need alot of unique accounts reporting one guy and he will get silenced for nothing. Its pathetic but thats just how it is.

People that mock others IQ are usually more stupid themself so.

once a system is in place, then not much can be done about that as enough time gives people the capacity to learn to exploit the system.

Having systems to report/complain teaches the LCD to look for things that they can use to complain. Even a accolades-type system could similarly be abused for false positives.

While a theoretical system could be better — having “trust levels” to add weight or limits on reports — we’d pretty much need to change those that report to “fix” the problem. So long as they have something else to blame, they’re not going to learn or seek to improve since their outlook places expectations that the report will revolve the world around them instead.

They’d need some sort of pavlavian incentive to reward “correct” behavior

Stop it, I’m salivating over here.

I’ve always liked the idea of a report system that attempts to incentivize and reward positive behavior. As you noted, this could be abused in the same manner as the current report system we have in place.

There is much that could be done to improve upon the system we have in place now, but the necessity to use some form of automation, will most likely mean some level of accuracy will need to be sacrificed.

It’s simply not possible to have an all human reviewed report system. I would like to suggest that when account bans are handed down, that it be mandatory that a human thoroughly review the matter, before taking any action.

Nothing can be done. Besides automatically deleting the account of the scumbag that falsely reported someone after a human review.

I have already proposed few years ago that report should be availalbe only AFTER the match, never DURING and ALWAYS MUST CONTAIN A LEGIT REASONING, NEVER BLANK. People press the report button before the match even starts during the waiting period and the bot system obviously considers it a legit report.

Who cares that the abusive chat report was pressed becausethe reported person took a hero i do not like huh?

Before you bite my ear off, please keep in mind I don’t like the report system and also think false reports should be punished.

Having got that out of the way, the one change that was made by the Dev’s in 2018 was to make any abusive chat reports against those who hadn’t typed a word and/or have their chat disabled, be disregarded. Prior to this change, players could be reported for abusive chat without saying a word.

Pings can be considered abuse chat aswell. So if you ping enough and they report you, you get silenced even with chat turned off.

Oh good lord, how do you know that as a fact, Froggy? If so, that’s just dreadful. Sure, if a player spams pings, that falls under “Spam” and should result in a suspension for “Disruptive Gameplay.”

What it isn’t is abusive chat.

Back in 2018 my account received a silence. At the time I had a lot of time in my hands and would be playing 20-30 games a day in ranked. Saying nothing really abusive to deserve it. I contested it and they didn’t accept my appeal for “my tendency to be overly critical”. Needless to say that told me this game was going downhill. I quit, just like a lot of my friends had done after being silenced. In a competitive environment this system is pure nonsense. But it is what it is.

Its not abuse chat yes but spam option still falls under the silence punishment.

There was a Reddit case where the moderators cited pings in the chat log as ‘abusive’ when repeated several times (it was maybe 3 or 4 repeat pings to retreat or or the hero itself).

Kind of sad, creates an atmosphere where it’s just safer to never talk anything or ping anything when playing with people outside a full 5 player stack.

I’ve never fallen victim to that, but I don’t place much trust in the appeal system.

There was also a battle.net topic on someone getting reported for ‘spam’ as they pinged other players, and it counted for a silence.

And the weird thing is that they get silenced but still can spam ping everyone lmao.

Its because you only lose your ability to talk in chat. Pings are still open even with a silence. It only prevent you from useing chat ingame and in general chat and whisper others. It wont stop you from talking in party chat and use pings.

Thats just the downside of having an automated system and not paying a human to check it through. WoW has the same problem and been proven countless times. Guilds that report a specific guild member to experiment if it works and 5 min later he got banned for a week for writing ‘‘I love Warcraft’’ and writing a ticket about it dont help.

But I also blame the players that take advantage of this both in WoW and in Hots

They are not any better then the system that banned them on thier main account.

They got banned and then goes into revence mode reporting everyone cause its that easy to get another player banned.
