Remember how Fortnite would never have made it big unless it had the backing of it’s huge funded esports league that was launched on the same day?
Oh that’s right, that never happened.
HGC poisoned the entire game, it affected balancing, game mechanics, drew in the worst players and diverted money away from the game. “what parts of the game?” do you ask? “It looks fine to me”
HotS is a from a AAA developer and has been out for 4 years. 4 YEARS. And still no visible MMR, no clans, no comprehensive stat screen for players with filters for map or mode. No achievements, no model and pose viewer to check out and screenshot your cool outfits. Just some of the things that would be attractive to the average player.
The game itself has been ignored in favour of developing characters with teamfighting kits, that do flashy 5 killstreaks. It catered to people who wanted to do nothing all day but sit in team chat and argue they were going to semi-afk because they theorycrafted the comp and they had no chance. While fighting in GOLD LEAGUE because they saw a HGC tournament one time.
If you quit the game because of HGC, I’m glad, you people are everything wrong with videogames.
Blizz probably never intended for it to work that way, ending HGC was simply a cost cutting measure, but I’m still happy about it.
im guessing ninestyle is a casual gamer. I used to watch HGC to learn things such as game mechanics, doing so gives you an edge over the others that dont watch, it was the reason i made it to diamond.
Also the game never had a good game director, the game always had lots of issues such as having two competitive game modes when it needed only 1.
releasing too many heroes when they couldn’t keep up with the work load.
I mean sure I’d be supportive of a HGC once they actually had the population and fanbase to support it. But the HGC was created even before if they knew HGC would be successful, it wasn’t about competitive interest, it was nothing more than a marketing arm of Blizzard. It’s just that changing the game and focusing the game or trying to chase esports viewers, IMO killed it.
They literally say that they are moving their talented developers off of the game and decreasing updates. The say they are striving for long term sustainability, which means the game just kind of sits with no changes. This sounds very bad to me. This is why people are upset. Imagine if Epic Games took away many of the developers on Fortnite, slowed down the updates and events, and then eventually just let the game sit. That is what scares people.
you can throw all the money in the world at HOTS and it wont mean anything because every game director was incompetent at their job. As a reminder 2.0 was released without mic support. This game did not have the blizzard stamp of quality on it,never did and never will.
Wow , what a way to act like a total toxic jerk. People lost their income and jobs without any notice. Players were under contract for salary, announcers were paid employees, some folks moved cross country leaving their homes to play next season, others just got drafted with the promise of income, and you don’t care at all. This was particularly a trashy move on Blizzards part and you condone it.
I agree that HGC was one of worst things to ever happen to HoTS. That’s simply because they put so much resources there instead of building the game from ground up(also why balance in this game is still up to date rubbish).
At this point though them canceling HGC will do nothing but bad for the game. It means they consider this investment bad/lost and will no longer put money into the game. Already last year when they cut down the dev team the hero releases slowed down, balance patches became smaller and half as frequent not to mention lack of new continent in general and this will continue that trend even further.
Losing the pro scene effects much more than just pros. It means less publicity, guides, videos(and general content), viewers, new players, worse balancing and all these things just keep reinforcing each other. It creates complete lack of faith for the future of the game. It creates uncertainty and game like this tends to be long-term game making it much less like to get picked up nor to be continued by current players.
Unless Blizz releases editing tools for this game you can be sure this game is in death-spiral and it will not survive in the long run. This game will now be in the back burner, it will get minimal resources allocated for it until the inevitable end comes on the current course.
You could say that, but most games don’t need a company funded esport league on launch to be successful or gain interest. Otherwise there would be no Fortnite streamers.
And I think Blizzard has already thrown all their good faith and credibility to the wind with the latest WoW update, along withe Diablo mobile. And that they said they are moving all their best devs to mobile games.
There is a major difference tho. We have horrible base to start building now. We put all our eggs on e-sports and hoped this game would build from top to bottom which didn’t happen. Other games in general build from ground up and once game reached high enough population or quality they start the more organized side. It’s why the game needs editing tools so fanbase could fix the game as it’s never going to happen from dev side.
While you were posting people died of starvation, were killed in civil wars and were raped by packs of thugs, and all you can do is talk about videogame jobs? SHAME.
Alpha didn’t have HGC and QM was probably one of the best experiences.
The developers worked hard to keep things fun. It wasn’t until HGC was announced that they took shortcuts for the every day people and bent their knees for the “pro” players.
The game is practically dead. But it’s not because of HGC, but because of the developers being removed.
I hate to agree with you, but you’re damn freaken right in that comment. First world problems. “Oh no, I can’t get paid anymore to play video games, I have to get a real job, boohoo.”
