It’s … unusual. It’s easier to play vs players because they have actual reaction times and aren’t coded to just see you and shoot you within 0.1 sec. Playing as Genji against elite bots often results in using E to engage and then immediately getting slammed by the whole enemy team… I mean immediately. I don’t even think pro players would react this fast.
Also, mages seem to be able to see through walls, and all of the bots have 100% accuracy. Abathur bot IMMEDIATELY goes onto a teammates head within 0.1 second of them going near an enemy hero.
Yet, they are too dumb to move out of sgt. hammer attack range. They are too dumb to move away from towers when they are getting shot. They are too dumb to monopolise on players overextending, and they overextend themselves.
I don’t think these are well made bots at all. They don’t teach players how to play the game properly, they just are like ‘advanced target practice’ more than anything.
I’d like them to get a bit of work done on them, make them a little more human like, and a little less godlike in some situations. Like seriously, as Genji, it’s a very frustrating experience. But as any ranged auto attack dps, it’s an absolute cake walk. They just stand there in your range and sometimes twitch back and forth instead of retreating when they’re low on HP.
That’s what they should be though. Playing against AI is to get the feel of the game and heroes, learn how objectives work, etc… If you want to improve and learn the game better, you should be playing against players and looking at what high level players do.
Also, I like playing genji against a godlike AI, it’s fun to test your reaction time and force you to think about enemy cooldowns, which is essencial to play genji in a good level.
I’d like to have an Elite AI, where beating them is like beating the heroic Escape from Braxis. I wouldnt mind if it would be extremely hard. Really looking forward to it
Its better to have an AI that is near diamond level and have more steps below it, than an AI that is restricted to gold. Turning down the difficulty is easier than ramping it up.
Players can always choose to reduce it
(although i hope that when the AI gets more difficult, that they are going to add a system that forced players to be reliable in such difficulty, so someone who cant beat veteran with a win rate of over 55% is not going to be able to play vs elite.)
When i play AI sometimes to chill out and they always want to lose (or give us the win) i just feel bad. Thats why i would keep AI the same from beginner to veteran, but make elite as a huge challenge. I mean huuuge. An elite ai where they punish you for doing silly things, get ahead in xp, etc…not just a game where you punish them for 12 minutes then they serving them up on a silver plate.
Not a big problem, i dont care if it stays like this, but still would welcome a serious change to elite ai.
Edit: if one cant beat veteran ai with 55% i would recommend try hero mode. Without joking i cant imagine players get below 90% after playing for two months (no mobas before)
Diamond lvl at least, with the goal to win. I want to feel the AI trying to win.
I bet the ai they have is just unable to learn. Imagine what they could be if they had the ability to learn and try things out for the win. Im not a big ai player (maybe 150 games in 3000+ overall), but if it would be challenging i seriously would consider doing it more.
And it could be a practice facility for experienced players as well.
What’s even worse is playing against an AI Hammer. I remember times where I’ve blinked on top of her with Zeratul and gotten knocked back before I could even land an AA to proc vorpal blade. It is literally impossible for a human being to react that fast, which just makes AI boring and frustrating, even if it’s still easy to win.
It’s like the bots prioritize hindering your fun over winning. QM is actually more fun because the enemy team doesn’t usually sit under their towers all game and make you hate yourself for playing melee assassins.
4 of those Elite AI Hanzos could probably carry me to GM, though. It turns out machines are pretty good at simple geometry.
