I’ve been trying to play more ranked lately. The last few weeks have been the worst ranked experience I’ve had. In every single game I had teammates that wouldn’t show picks, talk or type in chat. Even worse is when they lock picks by desire instead of need.
It sucks because there was no race to lock the fist picks! Every game the first pick went to buzzer and no one wanted to pick first. Eventually you get to the final two picks and no one wants to play tank, bruiser or healer. Why is no one talking or flexing when they wait to pick last???
Many dedicated SL players who play a high volume of games a day, are often reluctant to talk because of the abusive chat ban bot. It’s a frustrating situation I’ll admit when you get matched with people who won’t communicate in a game where it’s often the key to victory.
Agreed. You can also get sick if you leave your house, that’s why I don’t open any windows and never go outside. I’ve also taken to wearing gloves constantly and don’t speak to anyone, including family. You just can’t be too careful these days.

ya you cant be too careful with the T virus turning ppl that go outside into zombies . its better to stay inside where you cant get chomped on.
well sarcasm aside i wasnt kidding about what i said about ‘glhf’ being bannable. it really is. the reason why has been discussed many times. its because they dont really check much in the way of logs. the automated system just enacts things. then when you try to appeal they give you a canned response of ‘well we think the system is right regardless so be on your way. any attempt to open another ticket will be ignored.’
so ya. everything you potentionally say is bannable if someone wants to just go around reporting ppl.
…but on a personal note i really dont talk much in games to begin with. stopping to type in a game is rather distracting.
which happens so infrequently that it’s not really worth concerning yourself over. People typically only report chat when they’re feel like they’re being talked down to or disrespected, and even then if you’re a mildly-mannered person the reports will be so infrequent it won’t add up to anything. I haven’t been silenced in like 10k games, i attribute that to making my verbal contributions mean something beyond satiating anger (when i am upset about something that caused us to lose I say what happened and why it cost us the game and what could have been done differently, and without insulting the person who did it)
When I started playing ranked (before leagues were merged) I found my marco and drafting was my weak link. I only ever did placements and usually placed mid to high gold.
The thing that has me really frustrated is how I’ve been losing lately. Every time it boils down to selfish teammates or people that afk/don’t care about the drafting part.
I usually duo with a buddy and we can carry most games so long as we get a decent comp (healer+tank). before this season we only really lost to teams that got really insane drafts but now we lose almost exclusively because of our own team not even trying…
Most games no one is even responding to pings… Me and my duo partner are always in team voice too.
We do all this but it doesn’t help when you get three melee assassins or three mages. It sucks because too many people are just playing incredibly selfish. That mindset is for unranked honestly.
Seems like that’s everyone in gold. I’m in platinum but my duo partner is hard stuck in silver. He’s definitely good enough for gold but with the gold players we match with holding us down I don’t know if it’s worth playing with him anymore.
ive definitely been in that situation so much. i find a group of ppl to match up with temporarily because we did great in a game. then we all wreck ppl for a few games.
well… inevitably i end up with a few extra friends. what i have figured out though is many of these friends really arent that great. i mean together, in that one group, that one time, sure the particular ppl involved in that really clicked. it doesnt happen like that usually and when i have grouped with these ppl duo its usually not good. so i delete them all off my list and dont see them again.
thats not to say i dont have a few ppl on my list. there are a few that actually are ok.
I understand what your saying but you have to trust me, this guy is good. His mechanics are great and he plays a really good tank. His macro play and call outs are amazing too.
I have friends in high gold and plat that are worse than him. I feel for him because I know he’s much better than his rank. The problem is that hots is a very team driven game. Any weak point in drafting or macro can derail a game. He mostly plays tank too so his ability to carry with good macro is limited.
When we’ve gotten teammates that can pick some decent assassin combos and not just double mage (or other garbage DPS combinations) we can easily go on 10 game win streaks.
I’m hoping I can find some more people to group with us. With his call outs and macro we could carry most golds but we need people actually motivated to win and not just play the one hero they want to play regardless of the team.
well i mean… with two of you there if you are both higher than gold you should be able to carry the game pretty easy. i remember doing this back when HL had a duo que.
I think that in order to carry you need to be playing a role with that potential. That’s typically DPS but sometimes bruiser. Carrying with tank or support requires your team actually play well around you.
He mostly plays tank and I flex but the amount of assassin players in gold feels like 90% after the last two weeks of ranked. Hard to get decent healers or DPS to compliment us.
You know anywhere to look for finding ranked groups? So far all I’ve tried is notparadox’s discord.
fair point, its much easier as assassin. perhaps that is something to look at doing instead of flex.
actually this kind of applies to something i was doing too. im reasonably good at all the roles and i put my preference icons to say ranged or flex. well… this wasnt working for me. i spent a lot of time healing and tanking. which would be ok except i wasnt getting good dps. so i took off the flex role icon.
i am now only ranged preference. i still will flex… but its not my preference. i try to do ranged assassin only so i can help to carry the game. so far its worked out ok and i have climbed back up a couple ranks since falling down initially from all the losses i took right at the start of the season.
My sympathies, I’ve yet to win a HL/SL game in 4 seasons with an Illidan on my team, that includes one that was a GM. I know there are scary good players of Illidan out there, I’ve just not had them in SL.
This is what I’ve done lately. I’m a terrible support and okay tank, but my best roles are bruiser and assassin. The problem is when our teammates don’t make a decision and we’re forced to pick first and second. We need the team to build around us and they just don’t. I had two games yesterday without a tank and healer. We managed to clutch out one game but the other was done before level ten.
I honestly don’t want to even try ranked anymore. The selfishness of our teammates is too much. Usually we only get one player willing to pick something to back up the team. So many games with no tank, double mage/melee assassins or no solo laner. Whenever I heard people say “oh hots, dead game!” I used to just laugh it off but now I feel like this game will never improve because the competitive mindset is gone. Just endless selfish players looking out for “their perfect game.”
I have been flexing a lot. I’ve played every role this season but support. Mostly on tank and bruiser with solid winrates. Funny because my assassin winrate is even higher. Sadly my healer winrate is like 25% because of all the issues I’ve talked about. No peeling and suicidal assassin players often 3 per team…
Funny enough I lost to an Illidan yesterday. He had a Morales and Aba pocketing him to victory though. That was an ugly loss with no tank front line to peel for us.
