Did this game actually die?

But Diablo Immortal is literally free

:moyai:

So even if what you say is true about Diablo Immortal being a watered-down version of Diablo 3 then Diablo Immortal is still a FREE watered-down version of Diablo 3 at worst

Not really, there are some aspects of the game you can’t play without your credit card. Some Rifts are money only for tokens, or whatever they call them there. Yes, you can play for free, but some aspects of the game you can’t experience unless you open your wallet.

I should give it a try one of these days and see for myself then

Diablo Immortal is honestly one of those games I’ve been curious to try out for myself because of it being free

Lately I’ve been juggling through quite a few games I like as of late including HOTS and I have reached level 40 now

Looking forward to finally playing Ranked in the Americas Region

Yet, here I am bashing a FREE game where I would rather PAY $20 for a full DI experience or $60 for D3. I would rather pay than be assaulted by poor gameplay and a barrage of BUY BUY BUY! “Hey, see that guy over there? He spent more than you, that means you’re poor. Look at all the stuff you could have if you dropped $80 to gamble away.”
If I’m going to gamble, I’ll take a trip to a casino, with a set amount of money I want to throw away at a chance I would win.
It’s like apps with ads in them. They pop up multiple times before you are done using it. I have an app that puts up an ad as I attempt to close it.

Being a free game doesn’t mean it is automatically a good thing. I’m sure you will argue, “It’s free, you aren’t losing anything.” Yes, I am. My time. I value gaming; Probably more than I should, and I hate wasting time on bad games. Even if it’s free.

There are tons of free games on Steam, I don’t play any of them, because they are trash, and all they want you to do is spend money on virtual things. There are plenty of exception of course and it’s pointless to name them all.
Heck, people are dropping $130,000 on Star Citizen and that game is not even out yet.

I guess I am just different from you in this regard Mumrah

The last game I actually wanted to drop money for was Phasmophobia over on Steam and I pretty much just enjoy the free side of free games HOTS included

I personally would not prefer a Casino over Diablo Immortal

And I have the best kind of protection against people trying to squeeze money from me online(what little money I do have is in cash)

I am fine with being called poor in games and just let my gameplay do the talking instead

You have the patience of a saint. I have patience for things too, but not when it comes to gaming. HOTS on the other hand is a good game. A completely different beast when compared to DI.

You should because in a casino, you have a chance to walk away with more money in your pocket to spend on things like food, shelter, clothing, and whatnot. In DI, the money you spend gambling is burned in a bonfire at Blizz headquarters to keep the employees warm.

You misunderstand. The game itself essentially calls you poor, by putting lower geared players with whales, and showing you things you can have compared to what you do have. Just as Minky mentioned, there are paywalls. You must pay to advance in the game, or grind, forever.

That is quite the compliment coming from you

And I agree with you that HOTS is a different kind of beast

But HOTS is also lacking the kind of monetization that Diablo Immortal has and I believe that it is part of the reason why HOTS got shelved(lack of profits)

Mumrah

Have you even heard of what Casino people do to people who “game the system” like Card Counters do?

People who are seen as winning too much have their winnings removed and get thrown out and banned from the place

Diablo Immortal may have predatory levels of monetization but Casinos are corrupt to the core in comparison and you are not going to get kicked out of it just for being really good at amassing your virtual wealth

I personally don’t mind grinding a lot if I enjoy a game

And I hope that I find Diablo Immortal to be an enjoyable experience like I did with HOTS

This is true, but I would’ve left HOTS much sooner if it went the way DI did.

I don’t gamble and very little people know how to “game the system”. This is a real risk people take knowingly.
It still beats DI’s system. Because you can’t “win too much” in DI. There is no one to kick you out. The money is only going in one direction. From you, to them. They won’t ban you because they want you to keep giving them money for shallow gameplay.

I’m positive you will go back to HOTS in no time.

If HOTS went the way DI did then we might still be getting new heroes though :c

Perhaps. I wouldn’t stick around to find out because I don’t support games with such practices like DI. It sends the wrong message.
I like to buy a game and be given a great full experience. If there are little extras to buy, then I can choose to throw in a few more bucks.
There are games that sell for full price but sell parts of the game that should’ve been in the full release as “DLC”.

My take on how HOTS would’ve succeeded longer was to have people pay for all cosmetics and not be able to grind for them.
Updates such as new maps, heroes, and events should be free.
Remove hero/account levels.
Remove lootboxes.
Winning and losing should be inconsequential. It should be about the fun that is being had. In sports winning and losing should matter when they reach higher levels of play. Players who play HOTS that are not in a pro team, need to focus on the fun factor. Yes, the game is competitive but at the end of the day, did they have fun or did they just grind out a new level from the wins?
