Did the difficulty increase?

I did not change my VS AI settings, but it seems that one-on-one, three hits from any enemy will erase half my health. Facing two or more enemies means that I am killed instantly within three seconds. The enemy AI seem to run faster also.

Do I need to reset the level to Basic just to be able to play?

You must be out of practice. If anything the AI is the easiest it has ever been. I play coop Versus AI Elite all the time and getting 20-40 times the kills of the AI is common. With heroes like Deathwing it is basically impossible to lose, even if your allies spend most of the game dead.

As Dr. Super said, the AI difficulty hasn’t been changed. If though you were playing Co-op VS AI and had your setting on Recruit but players you were matched with had it set to Elite, then it might be more difficult than you expected.

Basically what DrSuperGood and Minky said. I recently started some games on NA with my main to check out, if my ping would be horrible and I also can confirm that A.I. isn’t much of a problem, even with heroes I am bad with. And FYI I played vs Elite AI on the hardest difficulty.

AI’s are weird, sometimes they are the most easy to beat things in the universe, and randomly they just roll you.

Usually when they are at a level advantage so stop running around like headless chickens. Keep a level advantage and they might not even bother to attack.

This actually confused me and I don’t like how it works that some A.I can be different in difficulty during the same match. What is the purpose? Why wasn’t all A.I enemys on the same difficulty?

No idea, but I’ve seen all different levels of AI difficulty on the load screen. I guess at least if someone went “beginner” they can see which AI hero is of that difficulty and kill it easily? IDK.

Maybe the reason is that the population for finding player vs A.I games is shrinking as well, so they merged it together.

I think it was always this way.

Well, despite what others have been saying, I also feel like the AI has gotten harder (or rather “less easy”?) in the last couple of days, which I acutally appreciate, 'cause this way it’s a little bit more fun to me.

Some of the “hardness” can be due to the heroes the AI is using. From personal experience (of many thousand games) it seems that the AI operates using their own separate hero pool which rotates periodically every few hours, or maybe every day. It is fairly common to see the same AI heroes over multiple matches despite the AI having access to all heroes except Cho Gall. It is so common it is fairly easy to build up statistical evidence of this happening. For example out of 8 games in a row, 4 or 5 of them might have a hero like Abathur which is bordering statistically improbable if the heroes were selected truly randomly. Such observations repeat frequently with many heroes between games during a similar period of time, hence there must be some sort of hidden AI hero pool that is changed from time to time.

Most of the AI heroes suck, but not all of them do. Some have very nasty combos. These combos can combo off other such AI heroes turning the normally harmless AI into brutal killing machines in team fights, especially if you are not at a level advantage to scare them. For example a combo consisting of Muradin, Imperius and Li Ming will kill most heroes who poke their head alone around a corner since Imperius and Muradin will chain stun and slow for 10 seconds while Li Ming lands perfect full combos on you for thousands of damage. The chance of these painful combos should in theory be very low due to the size of the roster. However this is not the case, since once those heroes are chosen for the AI pool, the combo can appear frequently in matches. Such combos make playing heroes like Valeera or Greymane efficiently near impossible, and so it can feel like a huge difficulty “spike” when it is nothing more than RNG in the AI hero pool messing with you.

Here is a list of AI heroes that are prone to making the matches considerably more difficult.

  • Nazeebo - AI loves to take spider build. Combined with predictive aiming and player tendency to walk in straight lines it pretty much guarantees 1,000+ damage should you poke your head around a corner. Can kill squishes from over 30% life.
  • Imperius - High damage hero combined with lots of stuns. If Imperius does not leave you bleeding, any of the nearby AIs that combo off his stuns will. Lands Angelic Armaments highly reliably unless broken, something difficult if you are CCed or at a level disadvantage.
  • Guldan - Spams high spell damage AoE constantly making him a monster in team fights where that damage stacks up. Since the AI always rolls a healer his self damage is not really an issue in team fights. Even chasing him he will keep waving you, often forcing a pull back to reheal even if you secure the kill.
  • Blaze - AI constantly lands double hit of flame jet on you on cooldown, giving Blaze good ranged damage should you poke or chase him. Has an AoE stun for AI to combo from and tons of slow and damage reduction options. One of those heroes that in some combos you never seem to be able to kill.
  • Ana - AI constantly lands heal on their allies and denies your healing. Also lands sleep annoyingly well to deny kills or interrupt team fight plays. Unlike humans, AI will not wake up sleeping players the instant they are put to sleep if there are other better targets (such as a squishy). Will instantly use Eye of Horus to finish off low-health heroes from anywhere on the map.
  • Kel Thuzad - By himself kind of sucks. However he lands his combo reliably and that will combo with other heroes like Imperius. Is completely map aware so will spam chain Shadow Fissure when possible. Skilled players usually have no issue with this, however if the AI comp CCs you, or you have mostly newbie players it is easilly possible for Kel Thuzad to achieve 7+ kills.
  • Mephisto - Similar to Kel Thuzad in that he usually sucks by himself. However due to his global ultimate and perfect map awareness he wastes no time casting it the very moment someone’s health is below the terminal threshold. Being Versus AI you might not have a healer or even heroes with self sustain or armor to tank it…
  • Rexxar - Pretty much same reason as Imperius. Stuns, slows and extremely accurate and willing to land them combined with high damage. Combos with other AI heroes well and can deny you kills.
  • Jaina - Like the other mages usually sucks by herself. However endless slow and highly accurate skill shots can pile on damage. If she picks up Icy Veins build she can easily team wipe should your team get caught by CC of another hero.
  • Muradin - Not so much of a problem due to damage but more due to CC. Spams CC like mad allowing other AIs to potentially combo. Also is often near unkillable should your team lack damage.
  • Lunara - Twitchy sustain damage poke in a mode where you might have no healer and be a hero with no health sustain. Seen even experienced players with thousands of hours die to her poking around a corner. Pretty much like a more agile but slightly lower damage Nazeebo.

This is not even counting heroes that just happen to hard counter the hero you or your allies choose. Greymane? Well too bad as the AI Have Artanis, Johanna, Cassia and Li Li who all go blind build! lol

Of course if you just want to win all the time you can always take Deathwing. I swear it is impossible for him to lose in versus AI even with allies feeding unless you actively try to. The AI has 0 awareness of his breath attack so face tank repeatedly for thousands of damage. The only feature that makes the AI challenging, CC, does not work on him and he is among the toughest heroes in the game with self sustain options so the poke heroes do nothing except maybe removal an armor plate from time to time before they explode. None of the above heroes pose him any difficulty. If you want more challenge with him you can always go melee build and use his “headless chicken aura” Heat Wave ability that makes the AI run in circles until they die.

Sonya’s whirlwind has “headless chicken aura” properties. However it does not have 100% up time and can be interrupted in which case they can explode her using combos. As such she still needs some skill to always easily win with.

There are 3 popular difficulty settings: Beginner (lowest), Adept (defaut), Elite (highest). However, players sometimes pick difficulties in between those. When those are lacking, the game will decide to put in some of the nearby difficulties. And as a result a veteran game can contain both adept and elite in them.

It should be relatively rare to happen, unless you pick one of those lower populated difficulties.

i find chromie and diablo is also very annoying as elite ai
btw is genji ai still as crazy as before? i believe since tey nerfed the cdr proc on e, it shouldnt be a problem anymore or? havent had any genji ai in ages

AI doesn’t get to stat cheat in this game, so your perception is flawed.
They don’t shoot faster, move faster or have more HP regardless of difficulty level.

The only “cheat” AI is allowed is Fog of War disabling (they may know you’re doing a camp and invade it even if there is zero vision or indication anyone would do it).

He will still dash you the instant it is likely to secure a kill. However Genji has no CC and is short range so he is blown up quite easily. His damage is also not that much.

Kerrigan can, or at least could, activate her cocoon multiple times effectively refreshing its health. Players can not do that.

Yea, I remember that. Fortunately it was a bug that got fixed. Players could do it too.

u know that s not what i meant. i meant this insane genji ai wiping out the whle enemy team with e-reset-build, i cant find it on youtube anymore :C

This is the more rational explanation.

I see now after several deaths in a row that I get hit by more than three enemy AI at a time, even if two are on-screen at the time.

Usually two can do it, and even if I am at full health.

My ability to handle multiple situations at once is not the best, so I am going to drop down to Beginner and just slog out the levels that way.

that s how elite ai is supposed to be
in high lvl pvp the same will happen to u
if u feel this is too much for u, lower the difficulty
