I don’t know who thought it was a good idea to remove this..
DW needs the ability to switch forms without having to fly into the air.. This is a HUGE nerf.. its not even funny.
You can’t always sit in one form or the other epscially if you’re spec’d for melee combat.. sometimes you need to pull back and poke..
To force a DW to get out of combat wait 4 seconds fly into the air wait another 8 seconds and land in a different form.. makes it so DW is useless for 12 seconds instead of the 1 second he used to take to change forms..
Yeah, I don’t know who this was for because players that don’t stance dance won’t need it and players who will stance dance won’t need it. They just changed it for the sake of changing it ?
6s to get out of combat, 3s to channel Dragonflight, 8s flight time, 3s to channel landing, 4s post-landing cooldown; that’s a 24 second process. The art of form swapping is no more. You now pick a form, talent into that form, and play that form all game.
Each hero has a retaliative amount of ‘power’ distributed to all their stats. By decreasing basic attack damage, it’s more ‘fair’ to changes stats elsewhere.
I was incredibly sceptical of the DW changes, but im not going to lie, I am enjoying the significantly lowered cooldown on Z. It’s a lot of fun. It makes him an in and out kind of skirmisher.
Not the kind of playstyle i had envisaged for a giant dragon, but still.
But they could have unleashed one of his draw back for it, allow him to land anywhere. He’s still very squishy so it would be punished pretty easy if player wants to be foolish about where they land. Or OR! Get rid of any of the many delays that happen when DW land or fly!
Most of DWs mini rework feels fine but losing form switch kinda feels awful.
If your playing ranged DW it’s kinda whatever, you’re staying in ranged all game anyway but you really feel its absence with melee DW. It used to be that your game plan was to be a menace for people to run away from and once they do walk away from you (which they are gonna walk away from you, your deathwing), you then either ult after them, or you form switch and use the puddle to stop them from coming back in to the fight if you were fighting on a point or near the enemy wall.
Now you chase people away and then your kinda useless. I worry we’re all just going to become ranged DWs again just because it’s the more flexible form.
I dont fully understand why he lost form switch. I can only assume they didn’t want you to dump all your cooldowns, switch, then dump them again. There are so many other ways to stop that from being too strong though.
I don’t disagree. There is much that I would like DW to be but alas he is not. Im trying to make the best of a bad situation.
I was in this very situation. Since I couldnt stance dance I simply just flew away. Turns out the enemy just came back so I jumped on him again for round 2 with my slightly regenerated HP from flying.
Couldnt agree more. I’ve never understood the one that puts your abilities on cooldown after landing. You have already spent 3 seconds telegraphing where you’re going to land. The enemy has their skills shots lined up and ready. Why do you need to be further vulnerable with your inability to cast spells?
Honestly I would think twice about trying to 3v1 or more, but I never felt squishy either and wouldn’t be afraid to toe to toe with many enemies before, but now post AA damage gut, I dunno if DW can even still call himself a Bruiser now. Hurts the hell outta my L1 Talent Draconic Might usage too. It never felt OP…
Unsure if this would interest anyone or not, but I run DW with this:
L1: Draconic Might
L4: Infernus
L7: Death Drop
L10: Burn Beneath My Shadow
L13: Wicked Inferno
L16: Conflagration
L20: Stood in the Fire
I tend to use W and E only when i’ll do something decisive with it, like a good chance to Earth Shatter stun an important target to lock down at a good time. Otherwise I use most of my Energy use for high energy Qs. While recharging Energy i’d chew on things with my AA, bodyblock, back up, or whatever during Energy Recharges. With my AA gutted, are the Devs trying to tell me that they want my DW to Q things then spend those downtime seconds ineffective? Am I supposed to Q, flat out run away like a chicken dog till my Energy’s up, Q stuff, flat out run away like a chicken dog till my Energy’s up, Q stuff, rinse and repeat?
I’m confused why DW is now biting as if his Teeth were ripped outta his Mouth and he’s having to try to bite down with blunt force and Gum his enemies to death…?
Ironically I might be the only DW in the Nexus that never really used the Form Switch and don’t even notice its absence… Onslaught and Incinerate always felt weak to me and most times i’d save my Energy rather than use them. I’d Incinerate only real early in the Match when my Q does not yet kill the Minion Wave entirely and I sometimes needed a post Q Incinerate to finish the last sliver of Minion Health to finish the Clear and rarely Onslaught attempt to finish a almost dead Hero trying to get away, and 60+% of the time I Onslaught it doesn’t even finish the Hero off and they still get away! I World Breaker Form after my first Landing and the whole rest of the Match after.
Not being able to freely change stance is kind of awkward at first but this new style fits him much better because he can afford to play aggressively. Lower cooldown on healing also keeps you from sitting in caster form for half of the game
Otherwise after watching a stream for 5 minutes I can say his melee mode is so ridiculously overtuned.
If i ever play him i only go into the blast/puddle/stun from and never switch back, so this only makes the initial switch a little more awkward for me.
That said, removing an entire playstyle with in-between switches for those who like it is pretty annoying and a bad idea.
I’m sure I’ll get used to the new way of playing him. I was never a fan of Mage mode but I’ll get over it. Mage is good for holding points, he still a very strong point blocker!
Even If they think it would be op to form switch mid fight (which i disagree with) they could atleast give it to us as an early reward to his new super quest or have it unlock at level 10. Or, I dunno, give it an energy cost.
Its just… Melee build really needs the flexibly form switch. Ranged dw can get away with never changing forms but melee, once your lower 1/3 oh your hp, or even half hp sometimes, you just have to abandon everyone and leave. Melee dw also partially loses his ability to siege. A puddle under the gate or on either side of the fort is super helpful, while walking up to hit towers is just asking the enemy team to take away your armor for free.
It used to be that once you got low, you could switch and slowly heal back up with puddle and support with the long range stun. Or all those times where you chase the enemy off a point, then form switch to wall them out.
