Hey there fellow nexomaniacs!
Today I had the privilege of playing with this Lucio guy 2 games in a row one of which he died like 10 times and the other he scored 14 deaths. After like his 9th respawn in 2nd match, he said the most sensible thing I’ve ever heard in HoTS history, " Death timer is too long." (man still echoes in my ears).
Suddenly a light flashed in my head. This was the reason why we were losing ! Our healer who spend like 1/3 of the match waiting to revive weren’t able to heal us during team fights.
So what do you think about death timer? Shouldn’t it be like 10 sec no matter what your level is so that your feeder can accomplish his task ?

Well, sounds like your Lúcio has extensive hands-on experience with the death timer. I wouldn’t want to dispute his obviously very experienced view point.

Does he like solo the entire team or something?

Death Timer starts really low, gradually grows longer. Compare your early game experience to the late game. Imo early game kills feel like they make no difference. Especially right before objectives start. Late game however they can turn a game around.

the only reason i would say death timer is too long is because the whole issue that hots has with u can be winning all game long, then lose 1 tf end game. that will cost u the whole game. beside that death time is fine untill about lvl 20 when u get 60 secs, then the other team can do alot of dam add in an objective. could blizz shorten it to 45-50 maybe, but then the game length would go longer then their 20 mins they are shoting for. thats the point where the player needs to learn about late game.

Death timer is super short if you DON’T die.
IF your number of deaths are in the double digits you may want to consider learning positioning mechanics. there is no reason to die that much.

Death timer isn’t long enough for some players LOL. There’s nothing like actually wishing one of your team mates would die cause he/she is better off dead. It’s reason why I sometimes enable it (don’t bother saving, don’t block nova shots etc).
Sometimes feeders are like pets… you can try to babysit them but other times you just gotta let them go die… so you can get onto business. And if it can’t happen actually be glad you lost so maybe… she he has one more lost game going against him/her.

death timers work great for impactfulness as they are. in other words if they were shortened to 10s, then games would drag on to like 40 minutes or more. the death timers work to create meaningful consequences.
your lucio should not have died 14 times. in fact… i dont think i have ever had a game where i died that many times in all the time i have played! thats saying something. since when i started i was a pretty much a moba noob.

If death timers were short in the late game, and you had someone like that Lucio on your team, the enemy would have 7 levels on you just from the XP from farming him.

And this brings up another important point for supports. Don’t waste CDs like resurrect (or any ult really) on feeders like that ever. I have seen that way too often in the past. If you want even a chance at winning… let the feeder die if you have to in order to keep the others alive.
Deathtimer is good as it is. There needs to be consequencies of dying carelessly.
If ppl could get back after a few secs even at late game, it’ll be an endless teamfight.

What is frustrating is when a team feeds and you only do this one mistake and die only once in late game and have to wait 50 seconds.
Personally, I think respawn time is too short at the beginning. It’s lame that everybody goes for the first blood at the beginning but it has absolutely no impact in the match.
But, I would go beyond that and blame it on the weak core. Core and respawn time goes hand in hand as one team wipe in late game often translate to insta-loss.
The death timers are specifically designed to be long by late game so that dying, especially a team wipe, will likely end the match.
Early deaths are less of a concern due to how short respawn timer is. That said deaths do give the enemy team experience and cost you soak/stats which will make the team start to fall behind. Ultimately late game decides the match but being behind early and middle game will likely result in being behind late game which is not likely going to result in a win.

Nah it’s perfect cause every game I have a 0% chance of winning thanks to terrible comps or just feeders and trolls, I get to alt tab and do something more entertaining than HotS.
While the Lucio in question is obviously trash and should play some ARAMs in LoL to get an idea of how little you should actually die…
The current balance of HotS is caught in an issue of late game death impact. Far too many games are ended with just 1-2 heroes killed, and an objective snowballing into a single push the ends the game. So what’s the issue?
Are death timers too long?
Are buildings too weak late game (the core, especially)?
Are objectives too overpowered?
The latter two are very true. The core is the weakest structure, particularly its own attacks are nowhere near as threatening as the forts and keeps, since those also slow attack and movement speeds. Objectives definitely scale out of control late game now that they’re immune to CC, and therefore their utterly insane siege damage is even harder to stymie. (Lose 1 objective, and only one person dies; watch helplessly as the Dragon Knight pushes through 4 towers, a fort, a keep, and the core while immune to CC and constantly peeling for itself. GG)
Death timers late game could maybe drop 5 seconds, but I feel the other two issues are much more egregious to the game balance and need to be addressed first, before even considering death timers.

I hope you’re not being serious. This would make the effort of killing someone meaningless.
Could make a good brawl though.
