Confirmation Bias Confirmed

All right, so I finally tried out Sylvanas after her rework last year. I admit, I was crushed when yet another hero suddenly became obsolete for my playstyle. I was salty and bitter and couldn’t see how this Thing that looked like Sylvanas could possibly be any fun or use. I know I’m super late to this discussion, but I figured, what the hell, maybe it’s finally time to see. (After all, nobody ever played the new Sylv [for some reason], so not like I could observe others to form an opinion.)
Played it, gave her five matches, hated it. RIP Sylvanas. Poor man’s Valla, who is a poor man’s Hanzo. Blech.

Valla > Hanzo dont give a damn what the stats say

Sylv is just worse than she was, but really when your that great going down a peg isnt the end of the world.

sylvana has bcom one of the deadliest assassins in the game now.
and with her pvp buffs, her pve still stays. she can still push if left in the lane unattended. She has much of the old playstyle of a specialist, with a heavy punch on her hero damage.

U just need to see her as an assassin now,

But you can play her 100% like before except push D every 40 seconds…

I honestly think the only people who don’t like the Sylvanas rework, are those fellas who never joined a single teamfight with her and just kept pushing.

EXACTLY!

WRONG!

I hate her rework and played her the way she was meant to be.

The rework was PR for people like you that thought all she was good for was pve. Becuase derp see specialist tag so derp must afk lane.

I dont play her as often becuase the playstyle i loved, the one the devs wanted to keep i.e. windrunner is slow and clunky compared to before. My god if you like her now i can only imagine your glee if you had given her the chance pre rework…

Honestly, i never liked her before, i never played her before. Also, i never played her now.

But, one thing I do feel. Before, if i see a sylvanas as a Greymane player, i would see a juicy chunk of XP to add to my team (with a bonus kill to my name). But now, i refrain from pouncing directly unless I feel that its not a good sylvana player.

Before reworks, sylvanas use to run when they see a greymane
Now, man, they grew some balls, they stay, fight back, and punish you for being over confident at times.

I hav been playing with a sylvana player in ranked, the way he plays, i feel sylvanas is near to being OP.

She was one of my mains when I started playing the game, but yeah right.
Sylvanas literally improved in every single way. She isn’t clunky at all, she deals good dmg and has decent build variety + she definitely takes more skill to use now. I played her a lot before AND after her rework, the only reason I don’t play her that much anymore is that I am in general kinda bored of Ranged Assassins.

The ONLY thing I miss from old Sylvanas is the old Mind Control + the level 20 upgrade. Running around with the enemy like a puppet while sending them to their doom was great.

Could you please elaborate further? Got me curious no sarcasm

Q, W, and trait were all nerfed baseline.

Q - firing speed decrease, loss of control of the volley (charges > now), mana cost (was free on charge system)
W - baseline damage dropped 18% ish (wasn’t quite 20), no longer auto spread
Trait - No longer always on, adds stacking AA mechanic (damage gate)

What she gained -
225 health (100 was added shortly after rework)
GK variant at lvl1 (gated behind trait)
infinite dagger quest (gated behind trait) at lvl1
sustain at 13 with Life Drain (gated behind trait)
Dagger speads vulnerable again at 13 with Cold Embrace

There are other changes (i consider MC changes a wash), but its all these little things that add up that make how fast/powerful windrunner was before so much better to me than after. You wont hear me argue her trait wasn’t OP/broken, but all in all with the new trait mechanic (AA stacking) she is just alot slower. I dont really feel like it increased her skill cap either, i mean yeah, technically becuase there is a new hoop to jump through but its not particularly engaging either, because you should have always been AAing targets, so now you just need 3 to get what i feel like is nothing special damage.

Thats about as detailed as my addled brain can come up with at the moment

Her rework made her go from a meme hero to first ban in tournaments/SL. She is one of the most powerful assassins in the game (though it’s harder to play her now).

It’s alright if you don’t like how she plays now (not much difference from before but alright), but saying she is just bad is quite wrong.

Sylvanas is currently one of the best ranged assassins.
I couldn’t get used to her for a long time. I had to practice a long time to learn how to play W-build, and I spent even more time learning other talents.

Sylvanas windrunner build was slighlty nerfed as you can no longer talent into cold embrace, but if its looking like a good time to use windrunner build, you should be taking the q talent at level 1 anyway which is going to net you 25% more damage anyway so that nerf is largely negated.

Overall shes slighlty more durable and alot less opressive is every way when played correctly

Sylvanas pick. Grand Final.

Sylvanas is better than she was. Her abilities just no longer have you play on auto pilot. You have to manage your trait, you have to manage your W spread.

Before, a lot of players got the impression that they were good playing Sylvanas because they didn’t have to do anything and it would still work.

nitpick: the damage portion of overwhelming affliction only requires the target to be slowed. this means that sylvanas can have even higher uptime on the % damage than she otherwise would, if she’s got an ally who can provide slows

Its not a nipick, requiring 3 autos before activation slows her down delaying her damage output.

Its the main reason i use festering wounds at 7 EVERY GAME. You can’t target switch without reducing your damage.

Why stacking on valla is ok is becuase stacks are on her. She can maintain on anything from there.

Hence why i say slow/clunky

EDIT

Another example is lunara. Yes lunara also has slow damage but its backloaded, so she is actually encouraged to switch targets for maximum dps output. I find the mechanic iteration on sylv unnecessary and tedious, not hard or engaging.

I don’t think OP understands what Confirmation Bias is…

Funny thing about that, the stats say Hanzo is worse.

Loved her before the rework, love her even more now with her infinite stacking quest, and AA build!

No more AFK pushing heroes in HOTS!
