Title.
Number of total deaths in stat screen has one big flaw. That is that the death variable has different value depending on what level you are - higher level longer respawn time. Unlike for example damage which is always constant - 1 point of damage early game is same as 1 point of damage late game as hero health and damage scale the same.
The game uses death timer for mvp screen anyway so it should be no problem.
That way it is more accurate and takes munition from some toxic potato who thinks that dying 4 times early game before level 7 is somehow worse than dying 2 times 20+ (just an example).

Interesting idea. I’m not against it, but not fully convinced.
I had 5% better WR on Yrel than D.Va last season, although my death timer was 10% worse.
See, D.Va can feed her mech and it won’t augment her death timer.
There’s both good and bad sides to this. Death count is just simpler.

Could be neat if it tracked both. Like you could see the time spend by hovering over the number of deaths.

The death count is related to experience given for kills. For example Murky dies and has 0.25 deaths but can die 4 times to give the same experience of most heroes dying once. Even if his egg is killed when dead and he spends the next 60 seconds reiving, he still only gave 1/4 of the experience for that single death than that Muradin who feeds.

Murky is a perfect example of a hero that can feed all day and and all feed reports on him will end up being invalid. Perfect hero for a troll that will never get feed banned.

I don’t think those reports are invalid nor ignored.
Wasn’t that the entire reason he and Leoric were removed from aram as they were giving false positives to the reporting system because of their high death counts?
Murky isn’t removed from ARAM I don’t think. Leoric was removed because people could legit troll by parking under the enemy Fort and auto-reviving to feed a full kill each time.
They banned Leo and TLV and the reason was for death reports being false positives.
I thought TLV was for being useless in ARAM?
I can’t tell if you are joking but that made me laugh xD
The feeding was not the issue with Leoric. It was the fact he revived super fast and the core has no shielding. This effectively put a time limit on the match. Even though your team will have a level advantage and can possibly even 5v4 it is very hard to win before Leoric does. If you get a DPS to help kill Leoric and buy more time then it is only 4v4 with a level advantage and defence disadvantage so progress may be slow.
Point being, it was gameplay related and not report related.
I’m against anything that puts the mvp screen in a more enticing light without it being completely revamped.
Tracking both would be nice. But people who are obsessed with kill count will revolt, and that is a BIG portion of players who play these types of games. UNLESS, maybe, a stat for “Time Denied to players”. It’s essentially kills converted to time.
The mindset for kills is deep. People think that kills are more important than taking a strategic point that would net them the win.
I don’t remember the last time someone got caught for ruining the game and if they did somehow get suspended, it’s because of the fantastic chat report system and usually through a large volume of games (generally repeat offenses).
When they say false positives, they probably have a system in place which analyzes time spent dead and compares is to that of other players. What other metric would they be using when the game doesn’t have anti-smurf system and since being bad at the game isn’t a punishable offense? I can’t imagine them ever combing through the replay to verify the reports. No wonder how many selfish and uncooperative players never get caught even when reported by all participating players.
Leoric please stop what you are doing, this is not fun for anyone. Situation averted. In case of Blizzard, this would be interpreted as a group of players harassing one individual and telling them how the game should be played.
