Cassia's Seraphs Hymn

During cassia’s rework they reverted her talent Seraph’s Hymn to an older version of itself. This ‘new’ older version has proven why it was changed in the first place, now sitting at the lowest pickrate (except for rockstopper at 20) and winrate out of all her talents.

I really think they should un-revert the revert, maybe with a small numbers nerf, as I understand that the talent would be very strong - but I think whatever talent at 7 has to be strong in order to compete with Surge of Light anyways.

The previous Seraph’s Hymn was my favorite talent of Cassia’s before the rework, I would really love to see it exist in some form now that this current version of it is obviously failing.

It should allow Cassia to be an aspiring pop star with the character depth of a kitchen sink and uses soul crystals for speakers.

But yeah, pre rework Seraph’s Hymn could probably compete with nerfed Surge of light.

Reworked Seraph’s Hymn has always been trash because she has such slow attack speed. Even with a full blind team you’re unlikely to get many hits with it. It’s good for cheesing early kills, but it Charged Strikes was reliable damage, and AoE, at all times.

Rockstopper seemed good on paper, until a single micro-stun deletes your level 20 talent. :\

Sorry, i forgot what the old Seraphs Hymn did again. Would you mind please reminding me?

It was originally a quest to deal damage to Blinded targets. The reward was a pretty huge increase to bonus damage to Blinded targets with abilities. It was the high risk option for her kit back when Charged Strikes was the only other option at level 1, but she could delete teams singlehandedly with it. However, missing your combo was a devastating price to pay.

Like many great things in Cassia’s original design… it’s been removed.

Hey, shush you. We’re talking about Seraph’s Hymn, not Seraphine, here. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Neither of those claims are true.

Cassia’s attack speed was actually on the higher end for this game, at 1.33/sec.
During the 2 seconds that Blinding Light’s blind lasts, you could get 3 AAs in if you timed your first one properly, dealing nearly 800 total damage in ~2.5 seconds at base level with just your W and 3 AAs. What actually tended to prevent me from pulling this off was not her attack speed, but rather her range (which was a miserable 4, tied with Blaze’s for the lowest of any non-melee hero).

Seraph’s Hymn was usually used as a supplement to her Fend build, not as a part of her AA build (since charged strikes did provide more value for that build). This was for 2 reasons

  1. The CDR for Blinding Light brought its cooldown down to match Fend’s, meaning whenever you could cast Fend, you could also cast Blinding Light beforehand.
  2. If you canceled your E a split-second early to throw out an extra AA, you could get an extra burst at the end of the channel, granting nearly 30-40% more damage to your W>E combo with this effect.

In this role, it was a pretty strong talent.

It reduced the cooldown and mana cost of Blinding Light by 33% and increased AA damage against blinded targets by 100%.

Oohh yea that’s right. I loved that one too. It rarely got picked so players were always surprised to get chunked down by cassia’s crazy burst.

I also miss the talent which increased the radius of the blind

I think that was old Inner Light, which increased the radius by 25% and also caused you to instantly cast it at your location whenever you were stunned or rooted.

Aka the ‘mess with Butcher’ talent.

I used it to supplement Cassia entirely, as a solo laner, as it worked perfectly alongside the leech at 4 and surge of light at 7 (rip that interaction too) for tons of 1v1 sustain and damage. I always chained 13 and 16 together for slows and percent damage or more qs and pierce. It was wonderful to play.

I think it was the most underrated talent in the game ;-; and dominated far into masters for me, imagine changing it back to the old lame seraph’s hymn and then putting it at level 7 with surge of light.

Honestly yeah, I’m kind of surprised that isn’t anywhere to be seen either, even though I rarely picked it over leech.

We need generic cringe lyrics like believe in your heart or something

It’s always attack speed for me, since getting into range with Cassia isn’t an issue. She was ‘sturdier’ for that purpose previously, but you need perfect timing and no issues with your target moving or you getting hindered.

The problem is that Charged Strikes was simply better in every way, except that 1/100 chance you can keep blinds on your focus target. However, that meant gimping your team comp by taking Li Li, and arguably Artanis at the time, since Johanna was the only direct blind hero she had massive innate synergy with.

But still, CS was AoE auto attacks with a damage bonus for 8 seconds. As a positional hero already in the fray, it was just the better talent to have on deck for damage output anywhere. You want Blinding Light for Fend anyway. Losing her secondary damage output is why she’s so mediocre now and relies completely on Surge of Light.

It was not.

Charged Strikes was more reliable due to its higher uptime, but its 20% bonus damage was not as impactful as Seraph’s Hymn’s 100%, and it didn’t synergize with her other talents nearly as well. It was actually performing slightly worse than Seraph’s Hymn as a result.

Yeah, and Seraph’s Hymn helped with that. It was a Blinding Light talent.
