I can’t buy gems in the game (maybe over a year now) - I see only blue sqare.
I really have no idea what is the problem, because only with HotS I have it (I don’t play other Blizzard games, but I am buying all other things online for years without any problem).
I contacted Blizzard technical support, but I got only some generic suggestions. And I really don’t expect from you to solve this problem.
But can you, at least, make gems available in the website shop? That will help anyone who have the same problem in the game. You already have hero bundles there, so adding gems will not be something complicated for you?

Just throwing this out there since your edit bumped the thread and you might still need help:
Did you try running HeroesSwitcher_x64.exe in admin mode, and temporarily allowing all traffic through your firewall?
The gem purchase dialog (in-game) connects to a certain website/IP that various safeguards on your computer can block.
I only suggested it because it worked for a lot of people in tech/bug reports.
