Can someone explain

How typing in your own asterisks for a swear stand in is somehow subverting the profanity filter?

I did that and just now coming off a ban. I asked in the ticket and there was no answer.

Like to anyone not an idiot, subverting the profanity system is getting your swear words to show up by working around the system. Using spaces or commas, or w/e.

Its not just typing them in for it.

Are they just being toxic with their bans now because they hate their jobs, or are they that stupid?

Problem is that you’re trying to define something in a way that’s not true. Using any sort of measures to write anything that wouldn’t normally go through the profanity filter counts as subverting the profanity filter.

During forums 1.0 days I got the same penalty for just typing the letter “f”.

Yeap, basic alphabet characters are considered profanity now by Blizzard.

Thats stupid.

Thats like saying if I put black out card board across my naked body and make a commercial and put it on national tv, I am subverting FCC regulation by not blurring out nudity.

This company is so far off the rails its not even funny anymore. I bet I get a ban for even asking my question that they wont even answer in the ticket because “discussing disciplinary actions”.

Lol, what? Asterisks aren’t supposed to go through profanity filters? Perhaps the moderator who substituted whatever his pervert mind desired in place of asterisks should ban himself.

Just let it go, moderators here aren’t exactly bright, probably outsourced for pennies per hour. Just accept that you can get banned for anything. I got a ban for sarcasm before.

I was quoting something and I put the letter f followed by asterisks.

My opinion is they are petty and follow the letter of the forum law more closely for people who are critical of them.

Change my mind

Howzabout we all stop swearing as a society and the sheer normalization of it is contributing to a sliding of social values to where most people aren’t even upset anymore that Call of Duty contains only 10 year olds who their parents can’t or refuse to control, swearing between screeching.

Blizzard is doing their part that maybe we can have one last forum where people just. don’t. swear. at all.
You should be in favor of, not the “censorship”, but in favor of maybe bringing society back to a place where swearing isn’t normal. and the only way to win that war is if there are places where we can still exist without swearing.

Don’t you want to preserve the social fabric?
Don’t you care about the world your children and their children will grow up in?

You realize tychus says “Its about damn time” everytime you click him right?

Again I wasnt swearing. I was paraphrasing something that was said and hid my swear word because I didnt want to type it out. I was banned because I did not allow the forum to hide it for me.

  1. the game is rated T
    this forum is not.
  2. there are differing levels of swear words. Maybe something worse? not saying I’m okay with it. just that it seems weird to treat those two words the same
  3. I’m under the impression you typed the word out however removed 3 of the four characters and replaced them with asterisks. which allows the audience to still know what word you’re using. correct me if I’m wrong here.

In my country it’s acceptable saying hello with swear words to some people…

On the internet i saw a sentence about this… how was it… perhaps…
“Dosen’t matter if you are good or bad player, men or woman, black or white. In a 12 years old cod player eyes all of us a gay.”

Crappy report system, theres your explanation.

  1. Uh so you are saying the forums should be held to a higher standard than the actual game? Did you think that through before you typed it?
  2. I give you that. Valid point.
  3. Yes. But if I typed in “$%&# off” instead of how I paraphrased it, would it have been any different? Thats how the filter would of handled it. Certainly you wouldnt of thought I meant “heck off”.

And lets be fair here.

Blizzard puts out female characters dressed as hookers on a constant basis on here to sell $10 skin packages.

Please do not see them as some bastion of morality. Their morality lays in their purse.

I would be much more respecting of their “morailty” if they policed words less and policed how they teach kids that its ok to constantly use a sexualized female body to sell skins.

I’m sorry to hear you aren’t intelligent enough to express yourself without swearing.

If you were actually intelligent enough to read a post before replying to it, you would see that I was quoting when I posted.

Its ok though, you tried. Pat yourself on the back.

Yes and yes  it’s not a conflict of terms. one has the clear age warning the other is a no mans land.

No I wouldn’t, however the situation might have turned out different. but since time sadly moves in only one direction #repealthe88thamendment I’ll grant you that it wouldn’t for the sake of discussion.
My main suggestion there would be “screw”

As to your remaining points, of course i’ll concede that they don’t really hold the bar up too high in certain character models but let’s make one thing clear.
They are creating, from scratch, a character. (“they” being any game dev really)
In this process at what point is it logical to make the character an eyesore.
The thing is with character models, there isn’t really such a thing as “inoffensive” like a book case or a floor texture. Character models are almost always either and eyesore or clean.
no reason to give these models imperfections. as long as we’re creating a person here let’s try to make em really appealing! you know?
anyway that’s not really your point but i thought I should address it.

You’re talking about the tracer summer skin, the Nova Widowmaker skin, The Alexstraza premium skin, the Beach Stitches skin, The Auriel Ethereal skin, The love goddess Tyrande skin, and ANY of Cho’Gall’s skins.

so let’s touch on that.

  1. as said. T rated. Honestly, if you’re such a delinquent teen (not you specifically i mean the royal you) that looking at a shapely woman in something less than typical dress gets you going. That’s where personal judgement comes in.

Sex sells. Yes.
But there isn’t even anything suggestive here. It’s only heftier levels of skin showing, which looks to me like it’s just for continuity (ie. whitemane looked like that in WoW so they didn’t want to mess with it too much)
or for logical skin design. (ie. heroes of the dorm brought around a cheerleader who clearly needed a cheerleader outfit, Summer event brings up the beach and two piece swimsuits are the norm for shapely women around that young (meaning 18-30) age, Alexstraza is the Dragon Aspect of life so it makes sense to a point that she has a lot of personality because life-motherhood-childrearing-feedingofbabies-etc.)

My point being that beyond what is logical, I think Heroes has some of (if not the) least manipulative design choices. don’t just scoff this off. if you have hard examples I’m happy to debate the specifics here.

I’m sure you’ll be equally dumbfounded by you next ban. I’m sorry to hear you also are incapable of learning from your mistakes.

Congrats on reading what I posted this time before responding!

Also, just fyi, if I wanted to report you, your post ban worthy. It would be considered harassing.

Kinda ironic tbh. I dont report though unless something is egregious so you are probably safe.

Intent.

Intent is what matters. If your teammates can see what you mean, for all intents and purposes you’re using whatever words you’re using the asterisks to get through the filter.

And, by the way… You can just turn the filter off on your end.
