D.Va was fine back when Overwatch was pure goofiness. A Korean gamer girl who battles mecha-kaiju with StarCraft knowledge? That’s hilarious and fits perfectly in the original narrative. It’s just that the more “deep and serious” lore they add to the game, the more things like Lucio, D.Va, Blizzard World, ect start to stick out.
Then you have the darkest timeline where they add Hammond and it’s awesome and wonderful and people rage against the heavens. People are so focused on overthinking this stuff, and Blizzard’s story team ain’t helping.

But… Hammond is like the best character they added to Overwatch. And I’m totally not saying that as someone who has 200+ hours on him.

To be honest, I don’t think the hero is bad, it’s the animal inside the hero.
She’s the main villain for the current expansion, why wouldn’t she be advertised?
D.Va is far from shallow. She acts like it’s all fun and games, but that’s because she thinks her job is to keep people safe and make them feel safe.
She wants everyone to think her job is so easy that she’s able to treat it like a game, because she knows if they think she’s not struggling, they don’t have to deal with the fear of what happens if she ever fails.
