You first need something to sell and then can make a Black Friday out of it. The latest hero in this game is 4 years old and the community which plays the game can buy him 10 times.
Some of the players on my friends list are both whales/completionists who continued to purchase the 360-day boost every year, until it was no longer discounted.
These friends don’t play often enough to collect all the cosmetics they want for free, but are happy to pay for boosts which awards more exp/gold/gems/chests. Fair enough, probably there aren’t enough players like this who will spend real money for a boost, so it impacts Blizz’s bottom line, but you would think Blizz would be happy to make any cash out of Hots, even if only to offset the cost of keeping the servers online.
