I just bought her and only because she’s rare to pick and i like her style. Considering i never bought any 10k healers, and i dont play healers often i’d really like to hear some tips and tricks to - embrace the gain from this unexpected momentum - from those Who Mastered Auriel!
I don’t play Auriel that often but I do know how to use her.
When one of your Assassins are about to attack or Bruisers, you should switch your crown to them, saves time if your battery is running away.
She is a lot more damagy then most healers.
She’s up there with damage Kharazim.
Look for terrain with her E.
Always take crystal, it just better
Try to heal with groups your heal with get little value with a single ally.
At level 20 the shield is great to take.
mostly take the AA talent at level 7 it’s really helpful.
The most important thing about Auirel is that you need a good battery.
Well good luck with her she’s fun if you have a battery other then that she’s kinda worthless, unfortunatly.
Auriel is my most played support, I pretty much only play auriel (and a bit of khara) when I have to supp.
Some tips is, don’t get locked into one talent build. For example, people will tell you to always take energized cord on level 7. Energized cord is really good. But glimmer of hope (the globe talent) is super good on certain maps, notably tomb of the spider queen (you keep getting globes and your healing output is insane).
Even empathic link is good in some comps. For example, when you are with chen or stitches (especially chen), empathic link is godlike. Chen takes SO MUCH DAMAGE when drinking that it just keeps giving you free unlimited energy (and chen mitigates that damage with shields anyway).
For level 1, I like taking searing light. The majestic sweep is good too but searing light has way too many uses (long range dismount, finishing blow, waveclear, especially on tomb of the spider queen where you can spam it to waveclear with globes giving you free energy).
Searing Light is awesome to catch assassins off guard when they are running away. The amount of kill i had done so far with that is awesome , even justs pokes to interupts objective channineling ia good too. Combine that with reservoir of hope and if you stack good , you can deal monster damage thats instant.
Overall i like how adaptive she is ,she can accomodate and counter many things !
As for the ult , im one of those who go resurect much more often then crystal.
Many will say its one of the worst ults in the game . for me anyway, its an instant cast , no channeling needed which is great , the biggest draw back people have with this is the allie is usually heavily target upon respawn, but thats not much different from the crystal since most people will just tank the hit to kil your allie. In my case i keep enough energy i can get them to full HP as soon they respawn , worst case i can still slap enemies away to keep them far.
I guess its just a matter of perctive regarding the ults , just experiment and find what works for you
Auriel is awful, don’t even bother
She really needs a rework, Whitemane is just so much better now.
Heck, even crowning the tank right before an engagement for a quick burst of energy isn’t a bad idea. One of the main tricks to playing Auriel is to remember to move your trait around, you don’t have to keep it on the Gul’dan the entire match. If you have burst DPS and you know they will be unloading a combo shortly, you can switch the crown to them. Just make sure you always have someone crowned who is in range, even if they aren’t your first choice of target.
My Auriel is level 160 with over 1,000 games played and near 60% winrate.
I’ve had this success because of one really powerful build that I have mastered over the years.
The build I always go for is Righteous Assault -> Majestic Span -> Energized Cord.
This build gives you the maximum possible amount of energy generation in your own hands. Running these three talents will make yourself THE energy generator for your team. Whatever your crown target gives you is just bonus.
The meta right now favors two tanks and some other close range/melee damage. It is because of this that Righteous Assault gets so much value. Combined with Auriel’s 13 blind talent, you can potentially keep a clumped up enemy team PERMANENTLY BLINDED. Additionally, having so many close targets to attack also means your autos get insane amounts of value.
Learning how to position yourself in a way that maximizes sacred sweep spam while also keeping yourself alive is the primary objective with this build. It is very difficult to master and much harder to learn than searing light and knockback builds, but from my experience, it is the most effective build for her.
Auriel has a very surprising amount of build versatility. I can’t say there is any incorrect build out there unless you go the globe talent on 7 which doesn’t make much sense to me to be honest.
Here is my standard build that I hardly ever deviate from:
Righteous Assault
4: Majestic Span
7: Energized Cord
10: Resurrect
13: Blinding Flash
16: Reservoir of Hope
20: Light Speed.
I know there will be some confusion regarding my ult choice so let me explain. Most of the time I play Auriel is with my best friend and we make a ton of use out of a mostly forgotten mechanic of Resurrect that few people know about; It gives the revived target a 100% mana restore and refreshes their cooldowns.
It might seem like a very unusual and even conterproductive strategy but me and my friend have had TREMENDOUS success by having him go all-out aggressive and when he gets low on mana and health he’ll intentionally die and the rest of our team will peel for him while he revives so we can keep going.
The 20 upgrade for Resurrect is just ridiculous. 40 second cooldown on rezz potentially and you no longer have to peel for reviving allies as they can just get out of trouble for free unless the enemy has lingering CC on the area like Malf roots or Slowing Sands.
I know a lot of people will be skeptical and shoot me down over this, but you’d have to see our games in action to believe how powerful this combo is.
This isn’t to say that Aegis isn’t useful, I still use it against burst comps but I find that its value severely drops off against heavy sustained damage comps with little burst damage. Aegis is good but it isn’t the “only viable ult” as some people suggest. Resurrect does have a good deal of utility that people often overlook. The mana restore and cooldown refresh of Resurrect is INSANE.
Try to keep and open mind and give it a try sometime. Trust me, I’ve had a lot of experience with Auriel.
First place to start is to know what batteries are good.
I find the best to be Gul’Dan and Cassia
Some others though are Valla, Zarya.
Sylvanas used to be a good battery but I haven’t had the chance to test how she does post-rework.
Probably the most surprising battery is stitches, who I also need to test.
Thank you for all the great tips! The new stitches definitely a dmg soaking beast and i got him with auriel in my face, she outhealed whitemane by far (tho other factors could led to this /attacking the stitches lol/).
I will try out the interesting builds, really fun hero.
One more question? Does picking Angelic Flight at lvl 20 mean trolling? Had so much value in my games anyway. Once lead to kill the rest of the enemy team’s squishies, which led to us destroying their core.
Before anyone says “Always use this build” note that everything has a place and a rhyme or reason. Just think about what each talent can offer your team upfront.
For example: Searing light reciprocates the damage as energy for the next heal, so multiple melee comps work great with it. Or empathatic link works when the crown target can heal themselves easily.
But moreover, try to gauge when your X hero is going to deal damage. On sustain damage dealers this is easy to just keep the hat on one person but if they’re out of combat they aren’t going to deal damage. Some damage for healing is better than leaving the hat on one person when it has a 1 second cooldown between swaps.
Also look for stun opportunities, claps aren’t nearly as great as they keep you in place for .5 seconds which is easily enough time to get stunned when you’re up close, but a whip not only self peels but also takes one person on their team out of the fight or sets up a kill and it’s shorter cooldown.
Lastly aegis AEGIS AEEGGGIISSSS. There is almost NEVER a reason to take resurrect unless you are absolute garbage at timing aegis.
I never ran out of mana with auriel lol
I used to be quite bad with auriel; then I watched a auriel tips video by not paradox on youtube and went on a 6 game win streak instantly with her.
One of the things he spoke about which stuck out to me was that he believes her E is everything and that the talent to increase its damage must be taken. Also the fact that he doesn’t wait until enemies stand themselves in front of a wall for him to stun them, he’s constantly moving auriel around in order to place enemies in position to be slammed and set up for a kill.
Tbh, after the support nerfs, I feel like they could put bursting light back in.
(Bursting light was a level 4 talent that set ray of hopes CD to 2)
They need to make Glimmer of Hope have a passive that reduces Ray of Heavens cool down by 1 second. That would go along with the theme of having back to back heals, and late game, when you hit lvl 16, it allows for a quick couple of stacks with Reservoir of Hope. Also it wouldn’t hurt if they lowered Resurrects cool down to 40 seconds or something.
Right now Auriel feels really weak until the late game after you’ve gotten lvl 20 and gotten at least 10 stacks on Reservoir of Hope, and even then she feels like all or nothing. You miss your E in the team fight and you probably loose. You don’t hit enough heroes with your heal, you probably loose. You don’t get the perfect Aegis, you probably loose. So much stress with her late game that I don’t see the point outside of you being perfect and feeling like a god because you turned a team fight from a potential loss to a win because of your incredible micro.
I’m not sure there is any other healer in the game that can come through in the clutch as much as Auriel, but you better make sure you position perfectly, have teammates that know how your heal works, and land your E/Heal/ult/Shield of Hope at the correct time.
Auriel in 2019? OMEGA
-
Ressurect is a horrible heroic. Go Crystal Aegis every time.
-
As a beginner, Swift sweep (the first talent) should be your go to level 1. It makes you spend less time standing still, and is more forgiving when you get out of position to hit enemy heroes with your Q. It also gives them less time to target you.
-
You should aim to get a stun with your E most of the time. But watch that you don’t go to the front line for the sake of stunning.
-
You can condition your allies to group when you ping help in front of you before every heal.
-
At level 7. Energized cord raises the energy you get from your own auto attacks by 100%. So you don’t have to rely on your teamates.
Couldn’t you just play Ana and use nanoboost for the same result minus the death?
