As non wow player can someone explain hogger to me

My Google Fu failed me on this other than tell me he was an elite mob.

Was he significant somehow like stitches ?

Also what type of role could he fill and what type of abilities did he have ?

yes, he is analogous to stitches, which is why all the people whining about him are strange indeed. he’s basically an elite mob that had a side quest to kill him. people liked him. that’s about it. :expressionless:

Ah okay , any ideas on what role he would fill or what type of abilities he would have.

Just curious about the character

He’d be a melee dps or a bruiser.

I would expect him to be a bruiser or tank (but that might be because he’s a pretty defensive card in Hearthstone), I’m not sure what type of abilities he could have. All he can do AFAIK is “hit player with axe”.

Note that I’ve played a very small amount of WoW, so I’m not familiar with him, especially his other appearances besides the one in the starting area for Humans.

But as far as I understand, the reason he stood out (and helped make him popular) is that he was basically the first piece of content in vanilla WoW that a Human character couldn’t solo easily. The quest to kill him had a note saying that it was recomended to be on a group and well-equiped before taking him on.

I guess you could think of him as the WoW version of The Butcher, if you played Diablo 1.

In Classic WoW he was a level 9/10 elite, soloable by most classes with fair effort.
He was practically the endboss for Elwynn Forest, the human (most popular) starting zone, unless you consider some that most everyone skipped. (The Collector and, I think, a goblin near the river.)
Being low level outdoor elite, he didn’t really have fancy tools, just a high health pool and damage.

If you read around you certainly saw, he was a popular target for level 1 raids of 40. Haven’t seen one, but hitting for 51, being 9 levels above he would crush, so probably keep one or two shotting tanks, despite steady heals. But the 731 health would go down fairly quick as well.

Cataclysm changed him to a fight where your main goal is to capture him, so he ends up in the Stockades, which is the prison in the human capital. I recall he was also a boss in there around level 28, replacing some loosely relevant enemy from Classic.

Arguably, more so.

Hogger was an Elite-level mob in Elwynn Forest, an early Human zone in World of Warcraft. He was also the objective of the “capstone” quest for that zone.

Due to his placement in the world, and the fact that most (though not all) WoW players started their journey as a Human, Hogger was the first “big deal” fight most WoW players experienced; technically, all the starting zones had something like this, but Hogger just happened to become something of a meme. In fact, he later became a dungeon boss (having been “captured and imprisoned” after his earlier defeat by the players).

In the game, Hoggar is the biggest and baddest Gnoll around, so probably a melee bruiser. In the middle of the fight in WoW, he can go and feed on some nearby meat, so in HotS he’ll probably have a heal ability; he also has the ability to summon additional Gnolls.

Hogger was a raidboss for level 1 characters.

Hogger is the leader of the Gnolls in Elwyn forest, the human starting area. Lorewise he’s not very notable. Just a random gnoll terrorizing villages.

However he is notable in the community for being significantly stronger than most things you’ll fight at that level, so early human players have many memories of dying repeatedly to him or having to gather a group to fight him.

he was most known for being an internet meme because of how relatively strong he was, like with chuck norris jokes

Hogger is different from Stitches in that he’s more memetic.

Hogger is on a meme level similar to Leeroy Jenkin’s, but he’s a famous elite mob similar to Stitches.

This needs to start it’s own thread. Thank you!

“An intelligent gnoll who actually managed to get the other dumb gnolls to pay attention and follow his orders”

That introduction he made seems like a description of storm league.
