Arguing in text chat

what is the most effective way to stop team mates from arguing in text chat? i’ve been playing storm league recently and suffered a few losses for no other reason than multiple team mates arguing in text chat. Its super frustrating to struggle in the lower ranks then have people entirely stop playing to type for the remainder of the game. I am sure there is other ways, but at this point i feel the only proper recourse is to consider removing text chat entirely from storm league (not the planning lobby only the game) and encourage better use of the ping system or voice instead. IMO.

Deal with it. Why should you restricted your team mate from pointing out the poor play of other team mate?

because spending time typing directly reduces your actions per minute and detracts from game play?

A lot of it will depend on when it starts, and what they are squabbling about. I have had people start ranting even before the gate opens, as they don’t like a pick. In that situation, I will usually tell people, “Let’s see how it goes, if we [insert some strategy that can work with your comp], we can still win this.”

If it is later in the game, and someone has made a mistake, rather than piling on the blame train, I try to redirect people by giving them a relatively easy, concrete goal. “Let’s steal their turret camp while we know they are all top.” I had a Storm League match like this yesterday, where we had lost an objective on Volskaya, and our Diablo and Raynor started going at each other a bit. I said, “We still have the fort up, we can defend this and focus on the next one.” It was a fairly brutal game, going over the 30 minute mark, but we won.

At some points, though, there isn’t much you can do if your Tyrande and Jaina have decided that fighting each other in text chat is more compelling than actually fighting the enemy. At that point, just focus on practicing something that could help you in the next match.

If they chose to argue in the chat, it shows that they are most likely had gave up the game. If you removed the chat, they would either AFK or suicide thru the whole game just to spite on your other team mate or let the game end faster.

Honestly, while I agree that it would be nice to get two different knuckleheads from re-enacting scenes from the Marx Brothers or the Three Stooges in chat through forcefully muting them, the truth is that you can’t stop people from doing what they want to do.

Hoku really does have the only viable solution: Start trying to be constructive, start trying to build consensus, and generally focus on the game as a whole, not the offending individual. If that really doesn’t work, you’re welcome to report them both for something (toxic chat?), mute them both, and muddle on as best you can.

I mean if they are toxic or arguing terribly in chat, that game’s done with. You just got to think about the next match.

Don’t add to the argument, and coordinate the best you can with pings and commands.
If it gets too bad, just mute and move on.
If the whole team is fighting and not doing anything, you might just have to find your own individual value somewhere on the battlefield.

Say something to anger both players, that way they are screaming at you instead. But as you won’t respond there won’t be added fuel after the first round of insults. In short be the martyr your team needs.

This sounds like a strange strategy of bringing the team together. Do you have a story of it working?

Probably not, I’m struggling to remember a single argument in HoTS. All the stuff kinda blends together.

I argue occasionally if I get flamed/blamed or others get flamed/blamed but I only write when I’m running between places, never when I actually need to be playing properly, so it doesn’t interfere with my playing.

Usually doesn’t last long because I ignore the types that just insult with no actual meaning.

When I see others just having a flamewar with no purpose and it’s hindering the game I usually try to go something aloong the lines “Come oon guys, we can still win this!”

But it doesn’t really happen all that often. Been a while since I’ve seen a real type-fest of angry people that went on. it’s usually just 2-3 lines of something angry and that’s it.

Probably by being a positive peacemaker. I’m just speaking from my own perspective but when I get into a spitting match with another person, I typically will stop if someone with showers me with positivity. Then again, I’m of the arrogant type so ‘s tfu’ is likely to keep me going in my verbal battle.

because if you say any kind of negative thing in this game the outcome is being false reported with the punishment being perma banning, because you can get reported in this game for stuff as little as “go to objective” cause HOW DARE YOU tell little timmy how to play this game. you should be banned for wanting to win

I’ve managed to convince quite a few people to keep trying just by suggesting we all keep playing to win and that the game is never over until you lose a fight hard after 20. Reminding people that they can win just by making a few small adjustments does work at least half the time.

Often problems arise after someone lost internet and was replaced by a bot. If they rejoin you can recover and win the game—so just keep reminding people to play well. It is only hopeless if you lose two people. I often win games where we were down 3 levels in the mid game. The snowball changes do help quite a bit.
