I sometimes put on BGMs from other games during the background. But often I just leave HotS music on since it has such a varied sound track already due to the number of games it was based on and the talent that worked on it during development.
I don’t think there is a genre of music I don’t like. Like you, I also find music motivating when playing most video games.
As an aside, you might enjoy this thread, songs to play the game to.

Not with HotS no as I listen to audio cues, the music, and generally I enjoy hearing my heroe’s voice when I am playing. Now if I am waiting for a game to load in or am in queue I’ll watch youtube.
With some other games, Grim Dawn lately, I may have a podcast playing in the background.
When I played Diablo 3 however I used to listen to Vindictus’ ost. While the game went down the toilet bowl like most f2p games, the boss fight songs are severely underrated.

The only metalish stuff I have on my playlist is RAGE, and that does the job. But I have a bunch of playlist for the game, a hip hop one, an EDM one, and even a 90’s-2000’s pop one which is just feel good music and reminds me it’s a game and to have fun with it. And I probably have my best games with the last one.

Not necessarly power metal but I listen some Rhapsody of Fire while playong, also Cradle of Filth and a bit of Nightwish. Last one to enter this inner circle, Lorna Shore, which is a mix of Deathcore and epic metal (kind of violent though but gosh that drummer…)

Ingame audio is too important for me to hinder it with music. You can hear abilities and such to help you better with winning.

I agree, I only play music in ARAM or VS AI. I don’t want Dehaka to stalk me to death because I didn’t hear his rustling noises in a bush.

I feel like hearing abilities is not a problem even when listening to music unless the it’s louder than your ingame sound. Being in Voice Chat with friends I would turn it off to better understand them (if i had friends who played HOTS) or if you needed surround sound like in a FPS. Headset vs Speakers might also be a factor. This might just be me trying to rationalize listening to music in SL.
