Anyone here going to refocus on Diablo 2?

I did say some months ago that my HOTS time would be redirected to Diablo 2 if no new hero is out by the time D2 releases.

Looks like its about time to make good on that promise ( I only play hots once a week these days so its not that big a deal)

And no, its not an “I quit” post, I’ll come back when/if the game gets a new hero.

Anyone else hopping over to D2?

D2 not your cup of tea? Or will be doing both?

I’m still trying to finish D3. I don’t think I’ll be going back to D2.

I see, well for what its worth (Diablo 1 being one of the first PC games I ever bought) Diablo 2 is a far, far far far farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr better game then Diablo 3. (assuming you have never played it)

My brother and I used to take turns playing Diablo 2 on the computer, now 20 years latter, we are going to be playing it multiplayer for the first time, pretty excited.

I don’t miss the town portal thing.

I won’t be, but I am curious if there is anything new/changed to the game to make it more bearable.

D2 was my favorite game for a very long time.
The fact that I had to restart a new game just so I could try a new build was the reason why I played so much.
So, I tried the D2R Beta for a day and uninstalled it the same day.
I got spoiled too much by PoE.
Also, I’m not paying again for no new content.

You enjoyed starting from zero to try a different build?

How so?

Well you auto pick up gold now so that’s going to save my finger from getting sore, lol

You can respec 3 times in the game, also you can find rare items that let you do it.

Because the grind felt rewarding.

PoE for the massive talent tree, the learning curve, the synergy of gems, items and talent (which is far more than set items and bonuses from talents in D2). The end game is far more appealing, too.

I played D2 before 1.13, where there was no respec feature.

Hmmm, I can understand this. But the usual reason I got from D2 fanboys was “character identity” to reject the idea of unlimited respeccing. I laughed at this idea and rolled my eyes for the lack of logic a whole lot of people seem to stand behind. None ever mentioned the idea that the building up to it again was part of the reward.

I assume POE lets you respec anytime you want without limit?

Anything that reduces the excessive clicking is a plus.

This basically equates to starting from zero again with a new character.

In PoE, on average, I could respec around 25% of my talents(25 at lvl 80). More than that would cost me currency. It’s not much of a problem in the end game, but you have to grind for it.

This is an attainable goal, where you know that some day you will earn that currency to respec. In D2 you are at the mercy of RNG, and that day could never happen.

I left that game long ago. My Wizard got nerfed so hard all my gear just became irellevant on my non-season hero and i’m not gonna spend time farming for new gear in a rng game.

Also gj at keeping a bug in this game for over a year without fixing it. D3 forum is filled with complains about 8 sec screen freeze in high Grifts and to this day I still get those freezes and dies in G 118.

I have my hopes for D4 but D3 is over for me personally.

Diablo II

From Patch 1.13

The second way to get a respec is to obtain the four essences as random drops from the Act Bosses.

  • Twisted Essence of Suffering from Andariel or Duriel
  • Charged Essence of Hatred from Mephisto
  • Burning Essence of Terror from Diablo
  • Festering Essence of Destruction from Baal

Combining this four objects in a Horadric Cube will create a Token of Absolution, granting the desired respec.

Diablo II Resurrected
To respec your character, all you need to do is visit the main NPC at the first area, talking with them, and you will have the option to respec your character. While this might be a negative for some old-school players, it is something they can simply not use if they do not want to.

The respec doesn’t cost any gold, there are no strange hoops you need to jump through to get access to it, and it will reset all your skill and attribute points, allowing you to complete rebuild your character.

Hold up, where is the fire the size of Arreat Summit???

Oh, are you saying you can respect as much as you want in Diablo 2 Resurrected? I did not know that, not sure how I feel about that.

I don’t understand the question.
Point is, respec is a minimal influence on my opinion.

This is the biggest factor:

Just like in Diablo III. There was no interest in restarting the same character.
