About the attack-move

We currently have 2 options for attack-move:

  • When you use it - attack the nearest to you enemy.
  • When you use it - attack the nearest enemy to your target location.
However, I’d like to see a 3-rd option:
  • When you target a place near an enemy hero, attack the hero, otherwise attack the nearest to you enemy.
This option makes the most sense because it’s really annoying when you are chasing a kill and you slightly miss the enemy hero and click next to them instead - you waste your basic attack on another enemy that’s next to you and the enemy you want to kill escapes with their life.
However, when you are just attacking minions, it’s more annoying, because players who come from WC3 would more likely just order attack-move behind the wave and leave the rest to the programming. But if you have “attack target closest to your click” would make you move into the wave, without attacking anything, just to attack the back line of the minions.

Another annoying thing is: When you order attack-move (at least with “nearest to the click target” enabled) would automatically assume that you’ve ordered “attack target”. And if the target happens to die - your hero stops and awaits for you to command them again. You can’t just order attack-move behind the enemy wave and leave your hero to clear the whole wave. You need to constantly input attack commands every time your target dies (again, I’m not sure if this is the case for the “attack closest to me enemies”, but I don’t use that, as it’s more important to get the hero kills when needed).

An alternative to your suggestion would be having a key that changes the attack-move behavior:

  • if I just attack move, my hero will target the closest enemy to the hero.
  • If I press this key and attack-move, it will target the closes to cursor.
  • the function is reversed if I have attack closest to cursor enabled.

Problem is that alt, shift, and ctrl all have other functions already attached (in the default hotekeys setting) :stuck_out_tongue:

the attack move we have is taken directly from starcraft and warcraft. it’s classic blizz, and it ain’t goin’ away

It’s different from WC3. There you can order attack-move behind the enemies and your hero will kill everything on their path until they reach that point. In HotS they stop as soon as they kill anything.
