About Leoric (beginner experience)

you dont lose 20% movement speed when you take the one W talent, which I always take. Allowing me to take fights with more bulky heroes like azmodon and zag more easily, as they can’t 1 on 1 fights me while I have W activated, and thus have to run even further back from the fight, additionally, without 1 of the enemies dps they tend to have to run back allowing me to ult them. Even if they dont have a large bulky slow dps it can also just be beneficial to W the tank, because its just 40 armor, and if the tank runs away that tends to be more beneficial then the dps running off, as that takes away the enemies CC which typically causes the most issues.

If you’re AA build on Leoric, you will win the 1v1 against Azmodan whether you took buried alive or not. So in his specific case it makes no difference.

What do you mean?

The tank doesn’t actually need to leave the fight. They just want to break the W tether. But if you’re only in range of the tank. You don’t get any value from the armor as no one else is damaging you. I guess you could get value against Muradin as he is a high damage tank. But you lose the armor if they can break your channel.

But anyway, if you have more fun picking these. Go for them.

I know I repeat myself, but The Butcher’s Lamp at 20 is basically Entomb. Mephisto’s R is also comparable to Entomb. Sure both aren’t bruisers, but assassines, but they have powerful / gamechanging heroics in their kit like Leoric.

When would you pick “Shroud of the Death King” or “Death March”? Personally I tend to pick either Buried alive (AA build) or Burning Dispair (W-Build). I could imagine picking SotDK being good with E build to prevent enemys hero dmg, but I am not sure.

Shroud of the Death King + AA 13 vs % dmg.
Buried Alive + E vs mobile and heavy CC.
Death March + W vs lots of immobile melee.
Burning Despair vs an immobile tank, which is the sole reason I take Leoric most of the time. Diablo, Arthas, Johanna, Stitches and Mal’ganis. If I’m against a ranged offlaner, Zeratul or Samuro, then I’d consider Yrel instead.

Butcher’s Lamb has a different context than Entomb.

  1. Being a bruiser, Leo has more guaranteed 1v1’s. So you can count on opportunities of getting someone low and finishing them. Butcher has to count on ganking. And unfortunately, his quest negatively reinforces most players to farm minions instead.

  2. Butcher cannot pick who he wants to trap until 20. So you have to wait a while for that value.

  3. There some more versatility with entomb in that you can create terrain to trap or peel. But it’s certianly an advantage to have the silence from lvl 10.

The Butcher should be played kinda like bruiser and clear waves or use opportunties for ganks. If he picks the pve talent at 1, he has very good wave clear, not as good as leo, but still good though.

Why shouldn’t he? His heroic is a single-target lockdown at 10, his 20 upgrade makes it aoe. Why shouldn’t it be possible at 10 to trap someone?

Okay that’s true.

Bruisers are usually the least likely to get opportunities for ganks. You’re the only one catching your own wave, and you don’t want to leave the other solo alone in your lane. As an assassin, there is no cost of opportunity for Butcher to go look for a gank however.

If you’re double soaking, you have the same issue, unless you can clear super fast, and have a window between two waves.

At lvl 10. If there is more than one hero in the AoE, the game picks one for you. You don’t get to chose. When I’m tank, I typically make sure I’m in it if Butcher targets one of my squishies. Very often it’ll hook me and I’ll survive.

I love when I’m able to take this talent, it has to be the best version of “burning rage” any hero has. Aside from perhaps Death March, I think Leo has some of the best level 20’s of any hero.
