99/100 times, they are trash players that cause you to lose the game being outnumbered every team fight. Then you get the one god like Abathur that carries a whole team.
Either way it messes up actually contributing to winning or losing the game based on your own play. The game is on autopilot.
Heās only an āissueā in QM because huge numbers of people have for some inexplicable reason started picking him in masses, so he often appears even on both teams.
And most of those people donāt understand Abathur enough to play him successfully.
In SL you can simply ban him.
(I donāt know why this change in QM happened, in earlier years he was somewhat rare even in QM, appearing in ~10% of them?)
I checked from patch 2.53.1 onwards and he is actually the second most played QM hero now after Li-Ming.
That is absurd considering the skill level required to play him optimally.
Exp globes made him low risk high reward because he dont have to body soak lanes now. Also i had 3 games now with Aba on both teams now. Too bad you dont see any 1v1 slug fights anymore since both of them like to hide deep down behind thier keeps.
I played about 50 games of HOTS this week, and 45 of them had Abathur in it. WTF is going on?
Maybe due to the recent double bruiser meta? Also, recent new heroes and reworks have amplified the role of CC (which was already too important and annoying IMO). Abaās part comes in handy then. Likewise I have seen way more Medivh than before in QM. Even though he is not picked as often as Aba ā and certainly does not enjoy a comparable win rate.
Also, Abathur allows lots of short AFKs in game without being noticed, which accomodates lots of non-serious players in QM.
As for Li-Ming being second most picked, not surprising. She is so often banned in SL. Who would blame that. She is such a pisser with low skill required. I see her in 95% of the QM games I play.
These two examples might come down to this: have players become lazy?

Abathur allows people who are soaking for exp to just hang out and hat people without being killed then they can monstrosity off lanes till killed.
I know. I donāt know a solution to that though. Iāve tried to think of one, there just isnāt any.
It makes him very attractive for that sort of player in QM. Who arenāt really even interested in Abathur or playing him right. They just want to āhang aroundā with as little effort as possible.
Had an Abathur take a nuke on Warhead, then throw it at me so I wouldnāt get it if I killed him. But his ally saved him so he went and got the other nuke. Then he deep tunneled into a team fight and successfully launched it at the fort before dying.
We gonna ignore the fact that Abathur is useless 90% of the time, even if theyāre a good abby, with potato teammates? He gets screwed extra hard in those situations.
On the other hand, I can see why people would be frustrated- I know I get grumpy seeing poopy Abathurs as someone who plays him, but if theyāre trying then Iāll give them credit for trying to learn him. I donāt try to offer tips or anything these days, because no matter how āniceā you try to put it, they 9/10 bite your head off about āDont tell me how to play.ā
I donāt agree with what you say, but your assertion could be applied equally to many heroes. TLV, Murky, Medivh, Probius, to a lesser extent: Genji, KTZ, Hanzo and Maiev.
Most of these heroes are either high skill cap and/or dependent on their team and team comp to perfom well.
No, see above, many heroes, letās say Sgt. Hammer, require more cooperation from a team to lead to success, but this is a team game and not a solo one, so your complaint is just that, a complaint.
I honestly donāt care about the skill of Abas. Iām just so sick of seeing him. I have never seen a single hero played this much in my life out of all the games Iāve played. 95% of my games has an Abathur in one team or other. This is what detracts new players from playing this game, itās super unhealthy.

Yup, this is the unfortunate truth
Abathur is simultaneously hated for being overpowered, underpowered, uninteractive, too impactful, not impactful, and lame, all while sporting a 45% WR even in the place heās supposed to be good in (Diamond+ Teams)
Iāve pretty much personally stopped playing the game cause itās a lose-lose when I play my favorite character
Man I love taking Objective as Slug, itās one of my favorite parts of playing him imo
I won as Dragon Knight playing Aba once, was amazing
And QM is where a lot of people practice, or if they just want to chill and not play ranked/unranked with their longer ques. Unless people stop wanting to play him youāre just going to see a lot of Abathurs. And this is from someone who plays him. Barring him being completely removed from the game, I donāt think itās going to change, and I doubt heāll be removed- too many people like him or think heās interesting and are trying to learn him.
Unfortunately it is how it is. If your hatred of him is that great just go to UR/SL.

Yea, itās always fun. Sometimes if Iām on Infernal Shrines Iāll meme it up and go Campathur. Had an impressive game of 8 camps because I kept taking them before enemy Xul and Sylvanas could. Loads of fun. Which is a shame that itās such a meme build due to the power of hat build.

first of u could soak before the globe change just the same
but now u cant soak all minion exp while sitting on a keep which is usually the last structure to fall in a lane, u cant soak from bush anymore eitherā¦and be honest towers and wall fall easily if ur team comp isnt garbage
so if u want to soak properly u r basically forced into lane usually ending up with u getting ganked and giving free xp to the enemy team, yes very low risk high reward (sarcasm)
second all heroes r free atm so ofc ppl will try out heroes they think might fit their playstyle, just because he s picked a lot doesnt mean he s unbalanced or op, if we follow that logic sonya shoudl have been nerfed properly ages ago
