Yeah remember IGN review everyone here was laughing about giving the game only 6.5 and one of the cons was no comeback mechanics? It turns out he was genius and actually saw the game game for what it was. That guy should get a promotion. Apparently it only took Blizzard 3 years to realize that. I am sure glad they finally admitted he was right.
For years i have asked “what do you do when you cant beat them in a teamfight?” The answer is always “Kill one of them.” AKA Beat them in a teamfight.
The answer is soak so you can catch up on levels.
I don’t know where you’ve got your info but it’s a bit incorrect.
Laughs in 3rd tribute
So thats why people fight 9v10. Mystery solved.
If you can’t beat them in a team fight at any level, even when there is no exp disparity, depending on which map, you might be screwed.
If you need to catch up on exp you soak lanes and hug towers/forts/keeps and defend objectives.
If you have a comp that is strong late game but can’t beat them early game, you do the same as above.
If you can’t beat them without a level advantage and are on a large enough 3 lane map, you avoid team fights, and try like hell to keep lane pressure up while soaking as much exp as possible. The trick here is not to die, and force them to split to deal with mercs/creep pushing so you can single them out, this means sending the safest player to soak one lane after getting a big enough lane push going in a different one, everyone else going to the third and getting a push going.
If they don’t split, one lane is getting pushed down and you’re getting two lanes of soak to their one. Once they deal with the unoccupied lane the solo should head the safest route there as soon as they disappear from his map. If they do split they’ll send the majority either to the single player or the group to defend. Either way the solo should collapse on the group for a 4v5, if that still isn’t a winning situation everyone should disappear off the enemy map and rotate, try to kill the enemy soloer (kill one of them), on success or fail you back when the rest of the enemy starts showing up and repeat this process when camps come back up.
If you can’t secure a kill 3v5 though, you’re going to lose that match. They can steal your mercs, get theirs and soak while you can’t do anything about it.
All of this will change in the upcoming patch though.
They updated the review
There was less snowballing when that was written.
I’m not sure what the x factor would be that changed it, but I’d guess it was the tower ammo changes. Where it’s too risky to push, but you can’t slow win a lane. So first objective gets most of the structure experience.
I think this game always have a come back chanche. My experience say this. Even if you are playing on the tower of doom map and you have only 4 health points and your enemy 40 and all of the enemy tower is up. At that time you still have chanche for a comeback.
This was the answer i got the most in the old forums. If all things being equal, your team is countered most wont soak and camp. Soak passively because if they see you or realize where your team is they will rotate on you.
This is correct. The snowballing issue was actually pretty minor before the December 2017 laning changes, but after those changes the entire game’s balance went to crap and has only partially recovered since. Combined with a whole host of terrible reworks, the removal and/or slackening of QM’s matchmaking rules, and a couple other things, late 2017 through mid 2018 was probably the worst part of this game’s life to date, and it’s still a long way out from recovering.
Alan Dabiri, you will not be missed. I hope they don’t let you cripple whatever project you’re working on now like you did this game.
