The MMR is f’ed since the start of this new patch.
It happens mostly when grouped players can’t find a game.

it’s both an old thing, and a new thing.
Years ago, devs made changes to the ranks to better align with actual mmr and as a result, they made bronze 5 a sink hole for points. If players get below bronze 4, then the amount of points they gain/lose per game would compress.
Since the new patch, there’s been a change to rank matching to expand into a higher spreed of mmr (rainbow matches) so when the game is too far spread, the amount of points won/lost is also decreased.

Way, way back in the pre-season (where ranks went from 50 to 1) this was also a thing.
But while it is fair (and to gain 30 points at Gold 3, your opponents average MMR must have been around low bronze), I fear it’s another thing that will drive away some players at this point of HotS development.
At the very least, it should be capped at maybe 100 pts for a very lopsided match.
(In the 2015 Hero League system, you could gain as little as 1-2 ranked points for a very unfair match, for example 2800 MMR’s beating a team of 1600s).
I don’t think it will generate too many complaints, because deep down people know the matches they got 20-50 pts from in Gold or Plat were 3-5 level victories over a much weaker team. It’s essentially a free point bonus.

I’ve noticed while playing in groups the player with the lowest rank gets few point when winning the game
Yesterday I got into a game in ranked where the entire enemy team was afk, only 1 of them actually played the game.
Then, when we won after 5 minutes, I got 0 (zero) points from the win.
I checked the enemy team, 4 of them was bronze 5 and 1 dude was diamond 1.(That is the one who fought 1v5) So clearly he is using 4 bronze 5 accounts to boost his main account by wintrading.
Is that how you abuse to system to climb ranks nowadays?
Saw someone on Reddit that got 0 point for a win. Ranked is cooked.
