2 suggestions for anduin

here are 2 suggestions for anduin i have after testing him really quickly on the ptr

the first is that i think lightwell should be clickable in order to receive healing from it (similar to lt. morales’ ship + medivh’s portal), this is because it is more faithful to it’s iconic aspect from wow where you would originally actually have to click on the lightwell, additionally it would add more depth to the ability by forcing teammates to communicate on who is most deserving of the lightwell charges, they should consider adding a counter at the top to say how many charges are left to help with that

secondly, when anduin is up close i think he should pull out shala’mayne and use it to attack people in his basic attack animation, similar to how greymane, genji, and raynor’s animation’s changes to them using their melee when they’re up close, he has such a big and iconic sword, so he should use it

what do u all think?

No and no. Forcing teammates to click on the Lightwell isn’t adding “depth”. That’s just making it tedious for flavor’s sake. The counter also isn’t necessary. Whether the charges are used or not, it’ll be off cooldown at the very longest in 70 seconds.

His attack animation doesn’t change because of the amount of time needed to pull the sword off his back is different than his AA speed. He pulls Shalamayne off his back for Divine Star, but it comes out slower than his basic attack. Basic attack speeds are fixed regardless of range, notwithstanding any attack speed buffs/debuffs.

while i understand the origins of this–i feel like this would just cause UI clutter and detracts from the gameplay.

100% agree it would be cool.

Taking “Varian’s Legacy” should cause him to cast his attacks firing from the sword also, imo. That would be a pretty cool thing on that upgrade.

(as it he would swing/poke the sword and the light blast would come from it, not his hands.)

I’m surprised this isn’t his auto attack animation. It seems like such an obvious choice, instead of having an iconic sword do almost nothing.

the initial animation of him pulling his sword could simply be sped up and match his attack speed, after that the sword can simply stay in his hand, i don’t think it is something impossible for animators to accompish and there are probably other things like it made in hots before

I would get it if using the sword was linked to talent–like I suggested, but well. It is not.

It is weird, and the work for him to use his other spells while the sword is in his hand is there. You can see it after quickly casting another ability or auto attacking after using Divine Star. It’s definitely a deliberate choice by the developers to keep the sword on his back. Even after picking Varian’s Legacy.

eh, sounds like it could be really screwy.

I imagine it more like attacking with one hand while pulling it out with the other (same for putting it away) but if you’re only in melee range for one attack… well. That means you pull it out and put it right back.

It does seem like a lot of animation work for something so small.

It would be cool, and I would love to see it–but the opportunity cost seems fairly high.

it’s what characters from world of warcraft will do actually, when switching between spells/melee weapons they will instantly pull out their melee weapon, and when going back to spells it snaps back to their back

Yeah–sounds like it would look hella janky to me.

But I’ve not seen how it is implemented in WoW, given I don’t play it. So maybe it looks fine.

well, even if it did look weird, players could recognize it as being an animation harking back to the original game

Yes, and in true WoW fashion, no one actually uses the lightwell :smirk:

Don’t worry it is faithful to BFA… He hasn’t done anything noteworthy anyways (outside of the cinematic but that got old fast), since alliance side has been fairly Jaina-centric right now.

You remember how that turned out? :expressionless:

Prior to Patch 5.4.0, Lightwell featured the functionality now found through [Glyph of Lightwell]. The Lightwell did not heal targets automatically, but instead required players to click on the well in order to receive healing.

This functionality in its time engendered a significant amount of controversy and complaints from priests and non-priests alike, although some argued that the greatest factor in the failure of Lightwell as a useful healing tool lay in the lack of education of the playerbase. Over time Blizzard granted progressive buffs to Lightwell, but the spell failed to receive whole-hearted acceptance by most players due to the requirement for their own active interaction, preferring to leave the healing to the healers.

Patch 5.0.4 introduced [Glyph of Lightspring], providing priests with an alternative functionality for the well. Apparently this alternative was well-received, as with Patch 5.4.0 the new design was adopted as the default functionality of Lightwell.

Thats what i have always hated in wow.

For those that dont know:
Imagine 3 NPCs doing the talk animation while their weapons appear and disappear from their hands, teleporting to their back non stop and without a proper animation.

Clunky, lazy and an insult to the physics laws.

But it inspired one of the greatest WoW add-ons.

A good friend who was a Holy Priest main had hers configured to /yell um, suggestive phrases when clicked.

I haven’t seen manduin yet but maybe he isn’t using the sword as AA to avoid getting confused with varian?
I mean this sounds stupid but the playerbase can always surprise.

if you get the two confused… that would amaze me.
They have distinctly different in build–and I cannot imagine wielding the sword would change that.

Well we lost 3D portraits part because people could confuse falstad and muradin.
I would not blame them to think that total blind people would get confused.

I feel like an opposite Stukov talent could work really nicely. He permanently keeps his sword out and becomes melee with something like 60% extra aa strength. Maybe at the cost of reduced heals if thats too op. I love damage builds on supports.
