SO I touched briefly on this in another topic but now I am solely focused no buying cards. Now that I have spent some time getting a feel for the game and I have done research to find that all the best decks are built with cards from WW, BDP, ROS, and SOU. I am thinking of buying like 40 packs in each of those sets along with the 60 packs in the expansion coming. My question is this. Would all the cards coming in the expansion replace those from the sets I listed above making it a huge waste of money to buy those packs from the older sets of last few years?
Just trying to be sure before I drop $300 on packs. I did see in another thread that the WW, BDP and Rumble will be wild so I am guessing stay away from those since I am only interested in cards usable in tournaments in the future so no wild. Is that accurate about what I read? Cause a lot of cards in the best decks are from WW and BDP. So people are going to have to find replacements in the ROS and SOU and new expansion coming.
SO should I just stick to those packs. If so I could go Expansion Mega Bundle 100 packs for $79,99 and for SOU 40 packs for $50 and then ROS 40 packs for $50.
Or should I still buy 40 packs of WW and BDP also to form the best decks since April is some time away?

The Standard rotation does not happen until the first expansion of 2020 is released (expect the first week of April), so Witchwood, Boomsday Project and Rastakhan’s Rumble will be Standard legal until then.
This means ~4 1/2 months left in Standard, and after that they’ll still be available for use in any Tavern Brawls and single player content that uses constructed Wild decks. Currently about half of Tavern Brawls are Wild and half of those are constructed, while all of the adventures that use constructed decks are Wild.

Not necessarily. The upcoming expansion will likely supplement the already existing expansions. There should be lots of good cards but the past 2 expansions: RoS and SoU have also been quite powerful. And since they have more time in Standard, if Wild is not your focus I would prioritise those first over the older expansions
Getting bang for your buck like the pre-purchase deals for DoD is a start. So your plan of spending sounds reasonable, as you will get more overall collection value spreading your purchases across several sets, than buying 250 packs for just 1 set. The best value comes in the first 50-80 packs of each set, as the value diminishes from opening more duplicates. Though you could craft some more cards you are missing from older sets with the dust you get from said duplicates.
Witchwood is probably the weakest expansion out of the 6 in Standard: if you are focused on getting “the best decks” there are only couple of epics and Shudderwock that are strictly competitive. Buy it if you want for flavor/collecting, but Boomsday and Rastakhan’s Rumble I rate higher.
Boomsday is the best one out of the 3 that are rotating in April 2020 - many legendaries that are playable, and epics that create unique decks. Commons/rares are held up by a collection of mechs amd some useful spells.
Rastakhan has some dragon support that may see more play with the new expansion - a lot of fun cards that are not necessarily tip-top competitive. Multiple good cards for Shaman and Hunter in this set.
Rise of Shadows has so many good commons and rares: you want to fill out your collection and rather not have to craft them. Nearly all lackey generators are from this set.
Epics and Legendaries very usable as well.
Saviors of Uldum also a strong set. Staple neutral legendaries such as Zephrys and Siamat, and many quests are defining somewhat. Most of Druid at this point in time is built on the cards in this set (+ Classic).

I am looking strictly to get the best standard decks I can in the event I want to go tournament on day. I want to learn them like the best have. To my understanding those playing in the tournament at blizzcon were only using standard decks right?
The issue is a lot of the best decks use cards from those sets about to go wild so they will be changed around big time right?
Yes, but as for older cards, you may have enough dust after buying the DoD preorder with 40 RoS and SoU to craft the older cards for your decks. If you find you still need the older cards, then I would buy Boomsday.
Nobody is able to successfully predict what the best DoD decks will be like. But considering the poor track record of the Raven expansions and their proximity to rotation, don’t buy those now.
Wait until after one week after release of DoD. Day 1 is often crazy with a deck that’s super hyped but falls flat by the end of the week. Then be smart and make determinations of card rarity, drop rate, and the cards that you want before you decide how many packs you need.
If you need Legendary cards, cracking more packs is a terrible idea since they average 1 for every 20 packs, and you are more likely to crack Dorian, the Boomship, or other ones that don’t see play.
