Worst Expansion In a While

It’s no secret that Death Knights suck right now. I’m having the worst time i’ve had on Hearthstone then any other expansion. I can’t compete against a mage, priest, and a warrior… A rogue I can hopefully win against with Helya plaguing their deck but without it, i’d die on turn 4 or 5. Might as well leave when I fight a mage. I don’t want to play anything else but my Death Knight or Demon Hunter but what’s up with this matchmaking? I’m always losing to the same classes and I can’t play any card that helps me stop that? Starship DK and Reno deck sucks. It’s such a bad feeling when I win too because it takes so many games just to win one game??? I don’t get it, who comes up with these trash cards? How do you even have a job? I’m so confused on why this expansion sucks.

Look, I feel you on some level here. I’m a Druid in my heart but I’ve been climbing standard ladder with Warrior because it’s just that much easier right now given the meta I’m seeing. It’s annoying when you WANT to play X, but X is sucky for the current meta. And then people are just going to tell you “well stop playing X.”

And it’s like, you’d rather not play, if you can’t enjoy X. Right? I get you, fam.

At the same time though. Fair is fair. I understand your side, your frustration. But we GOTTA be fair about this. And the fair point here is it’s NOT the expansion’s fault. It’s NOT the dev’s fault. It’s our fault, for trying to force the game to be something it’s not. If the meta isn’t good for X, and we play it anyway? That’s really on us. For playing X.

The people who are going to say “just play ‘not’ X” have a point. And, if you genuinely want to stop playing for a while until X becomes more fun, that’s okay. I think we need to normalize the concept that it’s OKAY to put games down! It’s OKAY to walk away, even live service ones.

I mean, the alternative is getting so frustrated that you’re lashing out and trying to force the world to conform to you. That almost never happens regardless of context or scope. So, my advice is to take a break. A day, or a week, or whatever. It’ll be here when you come back. Trust.

I mean, I’m always happy to try new meta decks, because there’s always this hope that one of those is gonna become my new Sludgelock.

However, I’m notoriously bad with adapting to different playstyles and new decks. Even more so than I’ve ever believed, considering that I somehow managed to go 0-6 with this Elly Mage, highest winrate version.

There’s a fine line between being too rigid for your own good, and between being too flexible, and thus, too inconsisent. I’ll never walk on that line, which would be the optimal path for most people, simply because I’m way too unlucky and/or unsure of my piloting skills to ignore such a bad start and keep playing the deck because stats show it’s the best.

Some people just have it harder in life and other people just win the birth lottery. It is what it is. It’s incredible how many brainless people with half of one hand beat me today when I was playing it. I can’t stop dwelling on how unlucky one has to be to have that happen. It’s like the Destiny herself decided to make every transition painful and to test my resiliance and determination.

Owl Druid is the strongest deck in the game right now by far.

Waaah I want to play only Pirate Priests but waaah its garbage but i must only play Pirate Priest no other Priest or Pirate deck will do only Pirate Priest or nothing. I will never enjoy nothing but Pirate Priest so I won’t even ever try anything else. Can never ever try anything else that with a similar playstyle to my Pirate Priest. Must pigeonhole myself to Pirate Priest forever.

I don’t get people that pigeonhole themselves to an extremely narrow mindset and never try anything else similar when their narrow slice of the game isn’t top of the meta. This isn’t an MMO where you spend months developing a single character.

Dude what you’re saying is that you’re ignorant and only care about trolling me right now? I’ll play all the variety priests decks then if I were you. I’m not just saying I’m playing one style deck… get it right man or don’t comment at all.

DK is doing just fine. You just have to play a different deck than what has been the previous go to.

Yes, and I think you’re missing the point a little bit. I genuinely don’t like playing spell Druids. I feel like a larping mage when I do that, it’s not something that interests me. And the bigger picture here was that I’m playing X, and you’re telling me “Y is the strongest deck in the game right now by far.”

Awesome, great, good for Y, but what about X?

So, it’s the “worst expansion in a while” because your deck isn’t as good as it used to be?
Way to adapt, improvise, & overcome.
If you’re not going to play a good deck, then “Oh well”.

Honestly, I think they gave DK some good tools this expansion and they’re starting to catch up a bit.

Airlock Breach is a great card then
you have the legendary that lets you cast a card for corpses and 8 hands which gives DK something new and neat Just to name a few.

Disagree this is one of my favorite expansions in a while.

Outside of the rotten apple that is Quasar Rogue (that I’ve been playing mind), this expansions encourages mid-range/control decks, which will grow in power once titans/showdown rotate!

I’m excited for hearthstone right now!

I love the expansion and the cards. The worst one we’ve had in awhile has been Badlands. Reno meta was just miserable.

Loving it as Warlock at least, though i can understand having a deck build that you like not performing well but still wanting to play it. At that point you got 2 choices, either stick with an older n weaker build or adapt n make/netdeck a more effective one, while waiting for possible balancing changes.

Try rainbow DK, I was having a pretty good time with it from bronze to plat, from diamond to legend I switched to mage because the deck is way too busted, so why give myself a hard time when I could just profit.

To use this deck, copy it to your clipboard and create a new deck in Hearthstone

This is the DK deck I was running. You might want to run x1 or x2 cold feet, very good into mage. I was playing this in lower leagues so the deck is quite greedy, Gorgon and KJ can be easy cuts.

Definitely the worst expansion since the last one.

That’s what you said last expansion.

Mage is just too op, we’ll see how good the expansion is after the nerfs, so far I like it anyway. The theme of the deck is super cool, so I like it.

Idk man, I got legend with DK post expansion. It wasn’t too hard. Some deathrattle plague FUU deck with Nerubian Egg and Horizon’s Edge did it for me. Starship BUU was also really fun, went 11-4 with it. Didn’t feel weak. Climbed using both, but mostly plague. Tomb Traitor and Hardcore Cultist are clean as heck vs Mage, and since they draw 50 million cards, the plagues do alright.

Im not a huge fan of it because it didnt add all that much.

The starship mechanic is rather bland (buff the warlock package for heavens sake its terrible).

The new decks it added are rather bland as well. No one needed asteroid shaman or quasar rogue. Elevating elemental mage for the upteenth time and then turning right around and most likely nerfing it is silly. Libram paladin was a dud as were pretty much all the other class sets… draeneis are still in infancy but for now a complete dud.

The ceaseless expanse / kiljaden are more neutral legendaries that are going to clog up the game for another 2 years.

I dont think its the worst but its definitely has not ended up very exciting.

I wish I could post screenshots of this exact thread every 3 months. Flag me for trolling you but legit this thread is made every expansion:

  • The class I enjoy isn’t strong enough.
  • Other classes have more tools than I do.
  • I only face X, it’s over powered.

Shrug Maybe just play some of the still strong older decks, then.

  • Buttons DK is still very strong; Ceaseless Expanse is amazing removal for DK, it’s like a buffed Sire without the need to be in hand (and obvious lifesteal).
  • Odyn Warrior is still strong, as is Highlander varients of DK, Druid, and Warrior.

As much as I personally complain on the forums myself, in the end it’s up to my own bad deck designs and play, not the expansions.
