Everyone’s hyped for the meta changes, but here’s the problem: They nerfed none of the current oppressive decks in the format, in fact, they buffed some. No one’s going to be able to make it to turn 8 to play C’Thun. or last long enough for a few slow jades to get big enough to matter.
Right now, you have several oppressive decks that will prevent C’Thun and Jade decks from being played
Aggro: Mech paladin and pirate rogue are super fast aggro decks with never ending hands due to tools like radar and secret passage. Small-time Buckaneer for pirate rogue got buffed to be a 1(3)/2 instead of a 1(3)/1.
Quest DH will still be dumping massive ‘answer now or lose’ boards.
I’d say even/totem shaman also falls into this, which is getting a 4 mana summon all 5 totems spell.
Face-to-Face decks: Kingsbane rogue and Quest Druid. Only way to defend against this is mass taunts, but they’re not buffing any taunts in meaningful ways and a taunt strategy makes you lose to everything else.
Combo Decks: Mill druid is getting jade pieces buffed, so it could start running more. Neptulon priest is still summoning Neptulon turn 2/3, which stops an 8 mana C’Thun from being played, since you know, 16 damage on turn 2/3 kinda ends the game and is both fun and interactive . C’Thun can’t get through infinite turn mage’s ice block. And let’s not forget that secret mage just prevents people from playing the game period and look at that, they’re buffing kabal crystal runner to be a 5/6 when it needed to be nerfed!
Control: Lol this barely exist in wild. The closest you get is shudder shaman which runs a tight deck list to tutor out all it’s murlocs. There’s reno priest which is getting another highlander board clear and discover. I guess you might consider some the warlocks wandering around currently as control, but that’s more about the mass mana cheat and stat dumping that Titans has enabled.
In summary, stop being excited, the same old crap everyone was tired of along time ago (Neptulon has been in game for 14 and 1/2 months now without being addressed as a problem in wild) will continue to dominate the meta and squeeze out anything that isn’t broken enough to challenge it since Blizzard won’t nerf the oppressive archetypes.
