I’m not much of a deck builder but I put together cards I’ve seen in other variants. I played a few matches in casual and I feel it’s a bit too greedy.
I’d like to cut a few cards for some board clear and maybe a bit of heal to survive the early game versus aggro?
I’d appreciate some advice on how to refine this list. Thank you!
You needa da Vargoth. He’s just too impossibly good in Res Priest.
I do feel bad that he was free when he came out and now he’s not, but he’s one of the best Legendaries ever printed for certain decks, and that includes both Quest Mage and Res Priest. If he sticks on the board for you he’s brutal value; if they kill him and put him in your res pool he’s a multiple of that brutal value. The only way to deal with him truly effectively is a polymorph or devolve effect.

I forgot about Vargoth! Thank you!

Shadow Essence is usually a thing too in these decks, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Res Priest not run them. Most lists run Blood of G’huun too now.
You also have a very high curve in this deck, a lot of Res Priest decks do run some Shadow Words or Holy Novas just to live long enough to see the turn 5-6 plays that stabilize them.
Onyx Bishops could get cut for whatever modifications you want to make. Most hardcore Res Priests don’t run them in my experience simply because they clog up the res pool and don’t do anything themselves when they’re actually resurrected. Possibly Psychopomp could get cut to a 1-of as well.
Other than that, looks good!
Good luck!

Thank you so much! This really helps.

You’re welcome! I hope my many years of losing to giant walls of Vargoths and Convincing Infiltrators may be of some use to you.

Id take out Psychopomp, and Bishop, no i don’t play res priest, just feels here.
They are too too weak vs combo.
Priest loses badly to combo, even though it has illucia.
Illucia is at first thought “bad” in res priest, but not any worse than a 3/1 psychopomp (that does only 1 res and reborn which doesn’t matter in non aggro matchups) or some Bishop jank.
Id swap Psychopomp and Bishop for illucia or Mayor Nogg and then Vargoth.
Id even take out probably Infiltrator for Mayor Nogg and idk add a spell. 0 cost heal.
Watch your opponent’s combo decks have a huge problem.
Sure, your Shadow Essence now has 1 brick in it out of…Defender, Infiltrator, Statue, LK, Catrina, Vargoth and Illucia. That’s a 15ish percent chance of bricking on Essence…that’s it. Traded for a very, very, very, very strong play vs combo. Worth the tradeoff, w/o a doubt. Idk why res preists accept auto losing to combo when they could swap a 15ish percent chance of a bad play for great play at unwrapping a combo that are all over wild.
As a hunter, i drool, all over my pants, over Illucia.
That card is unreal good in wild right now. And will be.
Should be auto include 1 in every priest deck even res.
You also have the element of surprise…res priest “oh ok gg i win im combo holla youtube” then you slam illucia out of your res priest and only have 15 percent of bricking too, and your opponent’s like right click concede get fooled. Its like the nastiest crossover a res priest can do.

Your deck should be mostly spells.
Cut the Bishop, Spirit, Psychopomp, and Convincing Infiltrator. You don’t need them.
You need Palm Reading to discount Shadow Essence, Blood of G’huun to completely bust Shadow Essence pulling a Scrapyard Colossal to stop aggro as early as turn 4.
Also add more clears. Hysteria and Mass Hysteria for starters.
What’s the point of Seance? You still have to pay full price thereafter. You might as well run Mask of Y’Shaarj or whatever is called and get a 10/10 for 8 mana total.

is there a place to find good or at least decentish wild decks? i tried hsreplay and set it to include over 5000 dust and nothing really is showing up that i don’t already have or is something that doesn’t seem appealing. also i think my thing isn’t showing what it’s supposed to because the decks have significantly less rounds played that even low tier 29% win rate standard decks. i can’t figure out how to show a “meta” thing for wild, either. idk if there’s a better place to look or if i hit a wrong setting somewhere because i’m a hs noob. XD

This is what I came up with - I dropped to Gold 9 and I’m now back up to Gold 7. I’ve been experimenting with different things and I find Ruin and Horror to be situational, but good. I just need to survive until I can start my shenanigans: between the defender and statue, I have enough heals for late game.
I do fish for Palm Reading if I have Idol in hand. Palm Reading+Idol with Vargoth on board…this deck is everything I’ve ever wanted in Res Priest!

Nice stuff!
The only thing I’d be unsure of in that list is 2 x Idol of Y’Shaarj. Fun as it is, it just seems really slow for the current meta.
Some lists run the actual Y’Shaarj, the old one that summons a minion out of your deck for free every turn, because Palm Reading->Shadow Essence on 5->Y’Shaarj is a brutal line.
Or, again, try Far Watch Posts, depending on what you’re mostly facing that day. Having them in the res pool might slow you down a bit, but it can completely shut down a lot of Mage players and they’re still good generally versus a lot of other decks too.
Nah, if you wanna hit Mage in particular, run Noggenfogger. Turn random against them, and have fun while doin it!

Blood of G’huun has replaced Y’Sharrj because it doesn’t actually pull the minions from the deck, and it has Taunt.
They were running Seance previously, I argued that Idol is better for what the list is trying to do, since it gives a bigger minion for the same or even lower cost.

I played a lot big priest on Wild. After a lot of experiment, I found you need to use only the most essencial creatures, to maximize the chance that you pull only useful creatures with shadow essence or blood. So these are:
Archmage Vargoth
Scrapyard Colossus
Blood of Ghuun (very essential, so 2 copies)
Obsidian Statue
Zilliax
Nothing else is needed. If you examine Zilliax carefully, it is much better than Khartut defender: 1 mana less, and it have rush. When I added it, my winrate increased significantly vs fast decks.
If you have any desire adding other creatures, like Catrina Muerte, imagine the situation, when you have finally 6 mana, you are down to like 10-15 life, and your opponent have a bunch of creatures, what would you like to put into play with shadow essence? Of the above creatures, Archmage is the only one which doesn’t taunt, but he will recast Shadow essense (hopefully not bringing himself again). A Catrina is a guaranteed loss at this point.
Please also note that big priest very often loses vs many popular decks: flamewalker mage, Razakus priest, mill rogue, and anything else that kills you outright on turn 7-8 after drawing his combo. But the deck was fairly good vs aggro decks, and awesome vs slow control decks. However with barrens, aggro decks got even faster (like murlocs) and can kill you consistently by turn 5, so big priest is not as good as before.

This comment is quite hilarious. You get a like from me just for that alone. Heheh

I’d say that’s meta-dependent. Seance gives you earlier counterplay against some aggro decks and plays like Vargoth->double Seance if you think you’re up against early polymorph or devolve or whatever. Idol gives you more late-game beef.
It’s a fast meta, I would guess Idol’s gonna be too slow for it but I don’t play a lot of Res Priest myself because I just don’t have the cards, so obvs season to taste!
This is what I came up with - I have Lich King in there because I don’t have the dust for another statue but it’s definitely much faster and reliable! It feels more midrange to late game than the control variants in the past.
Thank you all so much for the help!!! <3
