Why limit legendary cards in deckbuilding at the start?

People can just make 10 copies of my legendary cards in gameplay. why limit me from having 2 in a deck when i make one?

Its probably because you can’t copy (or bounce) a card unless you draw it first.

The Azerite Snake deck uses a load of copy/ bounce cards, but you have to get Snake first before you could copy/ bounce it, by excavating 4 times. However, you can run 8 cards which allow you to excavate, so you never have the problem of your ace card being on the bottom of your deck.

Since Snake is a battlecry minion, and all the copy and bounce in that deck supports that, I added another very powerful battlecry minion, Astalor. He (and his copies) won me a number of games, but you can’t make a deck based on Astalor alone because you have no consistent way to draw him.

And that is why you can only have one copy of Astalor in your deck. And the same goes for all other legendary cards.

Just the way this game rolls. In MTG you can have 4 of any card in your deck, but no more than one copy of a named legendary may be on the field. If a second joins they both get destroyed. That would be an interesting rule to add to hearthstone.

Small correction - you choose one to sacrifice as a state based action if they’re both under your control and you have no effects that override the rule that causes that to happen.

Well that’s new. Or at least new to me.

Yeah, it got changed a long time ago. Back in 2013 I think? So no more using your own copy of a legendary permanent to destroy your opponent’s.

Want to destroy a certain legendary equipment, but aren’t playing the right colors for removal? No problem, just board in your own copies even if you have no intention of equipping any creatures. MTG at it’s finest.

I think you’ll find MTG at it’s finest is damage on the stack, thank you.

Thanks for the corrected info. I haven’t played Magic in that long I guess…

Because if you want to replay a legendary you must pay the opportunity cost of running a frequently inneficient card to discover or generate a copy. Simple.
