Why is priest still a class?

no one literally no one like priest.as a priest player, its infuriating. people always complain about it. most want divine favour to be hof’d or hate res priest and valon is garage now.it doesnt have any meta classic cards. and no other win condition other than inner fire combo. i mean blizzard just nerfed extra arms in a deck that relies on aggression. if you survive combo priest for 10 turns, they resign any way.

I mean at this point why even have that class in game? remove it and spend some extra focus to better other classes atleast.

still priest will just be unplayable again this expansion too.

I’ve been having some success with one of Zetalot’s control/Quest decks that doesn’t run Extra Arms (and therefore is unaffected by the nerfs). Is it a tier 1 deck? Not really. But it works a lot better than anything Priest had during Rise of Shadows.

Priest is the combo class. Combo isn’t allowed to be good. Therefore priest isn’t allowed to be good. It’s a little weird.

If we’re honest, priest isn’t even good. Agro is just really, really bad. Combo is much much worse. So basically we are allowed to play control, combo control and heavy midrange and that’s about it.

“But muh ‘agro’ murloc paladin!”

Yeah, you have fun with that ‘agro’ deck of yours. >.>

(Totally not salty. /s)

still priest will need some major upgrade if you want to play it on ladder.

IDK i play a standard res big priest sometimes that does alright. Focus on board clear early game and large taunt minions to re summon late game.

res priest cannot outvalue most meta decks. it falls flat againt both warrior and hunter

Zetalot’s Big Priest can beat Control Warrior. Haven’t ran into Highlander Hunter yet, but CW isn’t really an issue (it just takes forever to finish the game).

I havent played with quest. but big priest loses to warrior.

To be honest, I haven’t had issues against Warrior. Granted, part of that is that most people don’t expect a Quest/Control deck, and part of that is that Warriors at rank 11-12 often use removal suboptimally. But if you wanna check it out, here it is: https://twitter.com/Zetalot2/status/1161701603759591425

The fault lies with the devs. Priest has a really unbalanced identity. Since Blackrock the class goes for resurrection which basically means mana cheating when it’s too strong (which it gets very fast) and no one likes to play against a deck that revives the same big thing 3 times in a row after only one of those has hit the grave.
On the other hand priest has healing and stalling which also doesn’t feel fun to play against because the class automatically invites you to play some sort of OTK because healing and staying alive by itself does nothing to help you win a game.

people have problem with every priest mechanic. so why not delete the class already then??

oh combo priest draws a lot of card.
otk priest stalls so it needs to be hof’d (and they did).
divine / inner fire combo is too op.
res priest is too much value.

I told you why priest is polarizing to most people, don’t get all sarcastic here.

The class heals and therefore stays alive … but what do you do with that ability? You work towards a goal (which is an OTK or a very very strong swing most of the time) and people hate to run against a timer every fight and getting denied their victory at what feels like the last second (because until then the priest has only healed and drew cards and you automatically feel like winning the game).

Is Divine/Inner a totally busted combo? Not right now (because I’d argue that Shadow Visions made the whole thing too consistent) BUT fighting against the same combo of two cards since launch? That just doesn’t feel good.

Edit: I play Priest strictly in Wild btw because there Dragon Priest actually works well enough and isn’t limited to either OTK or resurrect.

but isn’t it priest’s identity to buff minions?? or res them??

Resurrection is a theme that the devs chose for the class when Blackrock was introduced and I can tell you again: It was very fun at first when the options were limited but it turned out to be quite unfun to play against (just like evolve shaman when that deck became viable all of a sudden).
Players just don’t like to play against mana cheating, that’s a fact.
Yes, it can be fun the first and second time and provide some cool “wtf” moments(1) but face the same mana cheating deck 2-3 times in a row and it makes you wanna quit playing the game.

(1)Lost to an Aviana/Kun/Deathwing/Cube combo that filled the board with big stuff in one turn (when that Aviana/Kun thing wasn’t so damn popular long before the nerf). It was a very breathtaking moment and I accepted my loss gracefully. That was VERY fun because that deck wasn’t everywhere. I only saw it once which was enough for me and I was able to smile about it.

Thematically, Priest has more so been a control class than a combo one. It just sucks at being both. Wish the midrange variants like Dragon would come back.

Some People have a problem with EVERY mechanic they lost against at least once…

But that obnoxious pun(k) Anduin, and his attitude (emotes) is a perfect target as a hate-class. Steal/copy, control and revive mechanics don’t help that much in this regard, either.
To some extent, Priest and Hunter are the polar opposites; Priest regarded as a “I’ll heal you into a slow-as-molasses dead”, while Hunter is supposed to be the “me go face to kill you off” type. If they approach at least tier 2, players are handing out pitchforks and start to riot.
