Why is it so hard to balance the Game?

While I think this topic wont get much response/discussion, but still interested what are the communities views.

well, for starters, there’s 10 classes. That’s a lot. MtG (for instance) has half of that, and each one has a defined identity, which is something that doesn’t happen in this game, at least not in the long term.

It’s hard to come up with one viable strategy for everybody that isn’t stepping on some other class’s toes. And when you do have two similar strategies, usually one class is better suited for that particular role. Both Warrior and Rogue have pirates and weapons, for instance, but (in my opinion) the Warrior HP is better suited for that role, since it gives you armor to counter the self-damaging effects of using weapons against minions, while Rogue can’t really use its own HP if they’re equipping a weapon themselves. Or see how both DH and Druid can attack with their HP, but DH’s costs half so it lends itself to more aggressive strats.

Maybe if they didn’t fiddle around so much with the identity of each class, they would be able to find a balance. But they move things around from cycle to cycle and it wrecks everything. Some classes find strategies that work, while most find themselves in limbo, sandwiched between two half-cooked ideas that never gel. It’s really hard to balance a game when you don’t have a clear idea from the outset about who’s gonna do what.

Because there’s way more players than devs.

It’s the millions of monkeys writing Shakespeare thing. They can’t predict with perfect accuracy what the players will do, only what they think is likely. And while there are some truly good deckbuilders on staff, like Chakki, there are way more playing the game and they have the numbers and the time to explore the game in a way the devs simply can’t.

This applies to all games with a competitive balance, not just card games.

Because people not even agree what balance is to start with.

Let me do a dumb analogy here and i already Sorry to bring politics but i promise that it’s a good one.

In countries were feminism has more reach and laws about equality are enforced the social differences between Men and women only did exacerbate.
There are tons of data on that in the internet.

Same works in this game:

The final result of game were every class has equal oportunity not end with every class being 10% of the meta.

This is a Very poor assumption.

If you balance your game about giving everyone an equal chance there gonna be classes far more popular than others.

If you want an equal popularity you have to give up on balancing the game around giving every class actual Power.

Because they’re more interested in milking money than releasing a balanced product. If they were interested in balance they would have a team of testers actually trying out the product well in advance of release. They would also stick to class identities way more and stop printing cards like highlander, hero cards etc etc.

all classes are playable but it’s still not balanced?

Yet again, 4/10 classes are complete garbage. Having a barely 50% functional product with the resources Blizzard has is hilariously pathetic.

complete garbage to bad players only, meanwhile they’re played at the top

You’re both so wrong I can’t pick a side.

But nevermind I said anything. Do continue.

This should be considered obvious and the goal of class equity not seriously entertained.

It’s not, unless your development team is a bunch of incompetent idiots.

At again, the little snow globe meta that exists in top 100/top 1000 isn’t an accurate representation. You know there are more players outside of the top 1000 right?

Thing is, even at top legend these classes perform very poorly.

Because it’s easier to have a rotating meta than to balance this game. If we didn’t have 3 expansions per year, then maybe there was a chance to balance the game.

which misplay so much that what they play and how they perform is irrelevant

A true elitist right here!

Yeah I mean I don’t consider any rank below Diamond 5 to matter but this is on a different level lol

nope, just a common player who’s aware of his own misplays

TBH I think that adding a tenth class combined with power creep has made balance well nigh impossible.

On one side it is not easy to balance on the other blizzard is unwilling to release patches regularly.
