Why do some people can't reach legend despite years of playing?

Honestly, I know people who played the game since beta and still hasn’t had the legend card back yet.

What have they do in all those years? It’s 5 years lol, you can finish a bachelor + MBA degree using that time if you schedule it appropriately. 5 years is also enough for somebody to learn and use fluently a whole new language (I learnt Mandarin in the same period).

And people can’t learn HS enough to get 51% winrate, why? My suggestion: quit your job, stay in your room for about 6 months and play 24 hours per day until you get that cardback. It is one achievement that you have to get in your life time, so get it.

Your own mindset is the biggest obstacle to overcome. Take me as an example, the pressure was very high when I was chasing my first legend run.

That’s why I got to legend only about a year back, after 4 years playing fulltime. But since then legend becomes a normal deal and I got another 4-5 time pretty easily.

Some people don’t have any interest in becoming one of the best coin flippers known to man.

Flipping a coin 3 times? Fun.

Flipping a coin 50 times? Bored after the tenth flip.

Because it’s a grind and it’s a grind that some people don’t feel like doing. In my case it’s physically impossible for me to reach legend because even if I had a 100% winrate I simply don’t play enough games each month to reach it.

Unfortunately as much as I still enjoy this game I just don’t have the stomach for more than a couple dozen (if that) games a month anymore. I guess nearly 30 years of card games will do that to you lol

Some players, myself included do not care about Legend anymore. When I first started playing yes it was a big deal and don’t get me wrong it’s a an awesome achievement.

I just play to have fun now. It’s not about rank anymore, I normally get to rank 5 each month because of the new reset it’s honestly not hard to climb 4-5 ranks to reach the threshold each month.

The best advice I can give is set your own goals. If rank 10 - 5 - Legend is what you want. Then your going to have to earn it.
It’s not about skill or decks when climbing to Legend as much as time.

You need to play a lot to get there. That’s about it.

So for me I would much prefer to play when I want and ply the decks that I enjoy rather than worrying about a card back or ranks

Some people just don’t have the time or desire for the grind past rank 5. Others just aren’t capable of the thought processes to change up your game to get that extra edge to win a close game or an unfavorable matchup so they don’t even make it to rank 5 for the start of the grind. Such as people who are small minded and think its all about luck and don’t do anything that improves that luck such as making an all in push when it might be their only chance to win that game. IE they focus on the results instead of the process like playing against something like Big Mage with agro and not getting the max push because they are playing around the endless AoE and FLJ before its online.

I’ve played for a year and a half and have never broken r4. Not everyone LIKES to play tier decks. Honestly the golden epic is the only reason i even go for r5.

I’d like to hit legend sometime but it’ll reauire a t1 lock deck I REALLY enjoy to make the effort. Hourlock was boring after a day.

its called 1 2 3 RNG and matchup manipulation.

I was playing casual made a gimped Mech Hunter and won 5 straight.

Then lost 5 straight to perfect hyper aggro 1 2 3 RNG. Even against a Merlon Shaman and pining away at his Murlocs my magnetic bomb didn’t kill the Warleader and then drop drop and drop of Murlocs all plus 4 attack and + 3 health and well that’s 20 dmg I cant stop turn 6.

=P

So I make a anti aggro shaman get a aggro matchups? No, I get Warlock Control. I have 2 hexes but not in my deck I guess cause they aint popping. But there are those reliable mountain giants. Turn 10 the omega make 3 4/5. Yep…

Its all just luck based and manipulation. Rarely does a game require skill.

Because our disinterest stops us from doing so. I got to Legend once, I don’t need to do it again. I get to rank 5-3 on a normal basis and that’s fine, but I’m not gonna craft my top tier aggro or whatever meta deck there is to bust my way for an extra golden common per month.

Also, not everyone has the skills to do so. We can pilot our deck sure, but can you memorize other matchups card for card? Can you mulligan? Can you play the same garbage 200 times and not be bored? It’s more than just trading right.

Actually i not ever wanted to get legend in those 5 years.

I’m a deckbuilder. When i know that my deck works and can get stuff done i lose interest until i find a new deck project to work on and make a viable version.

I rather have 6 cool decks to have fun with then make one super deck that I would get bored using each game to rank up.

Also, I like playing right now where I don’t have to face a tier 1 net deck master player every game.

I also play 1/2 the decks control counter and the other aggro. So it’s fun when I sometimes have a counter tech card that destroys the ability of my opponent to win against me.

I mean you get all these threads and posts crying about big priest when I have been able to destroy him using different counters.

Curious here as someone who has done it… but don’t you kind of want to take some of your better homebrews to legend? Honestly, that is the only time (besides my Even Shaman spite push in Boomsday) that I focus on hitting legend and, since MtG:A, will be the only time I see myself playing HS enough to hit legend from here on out.

I don’t play enough. plus i find tryhard meta hearthstone incredibly mind numbing and extremely boring. Plus, do i really want to climb up to high ranks and play against cancer rogues all day every day?

hellllllllllll no.

i’d rather hang out at low ranks and play jank of my choosing.

Don’t care enough and don’t want to grind it out

The biggest difference between a rank 5-3 player and legend player is the ability to read the meta. When meta shifts a good player will be able to identify it and play a more favourable deck.

The first time I attempted to hit legend I played almost 500 games with 51% rate (cutting sleep). I hit rank 1 with 5 star 4 times, but couldn’t get to legend and ended up stuck at rank 1. The next month, I hit legend playing 163 games from rank 15 with 63% rate.

The difference is just luck, deck choice and the meta. I inspected friends who hit legend consistently. Somehow they tended to have better RNG than I did.

I’ve been playing nearly 3 years… highest i’ve ever gotten is 5 back when Dragon Priest was a thing - doubt i’ll ever reach legend tbh

Got to rank 2 with midrange Paladin back when honest decks like that and fun games existed. I’ve lost interest quite a bit for many years now due to the horrifically boring metas that we’ve been subjected too. It was OTK garbage for several seasons and then it’s right back to hand vomit. Yawn.

Making legend in HS isn’t exactly an achievement. I don’t recall anyone on the Forbes list mentioning that their owe their success in life to a kids card game. Gimme a break…LOL.
