Just curious. I’m a kind of new player, played for a couple months and I didn’t even know wild was a thing. On paper idk why anybody would play it especially if they are a new player like me. Going against hundreds of cards that aren’t tuned balance wise like standard? because the interactions can be so broken since it’s not given balance attention like standard, but that’s sort of the entire reason it’s called wild tho i guess.
I understand the variety argument and at the end of the day do whatever makes you happy, don’t feel like i care or have a problem with you playing wild but why not play standard? more people play it, and it receives more balance updates.

it’s not THAT bad.
as someone who has been around 5-6 years and has all of the cards it’s the only place that allows me to play my entire collection
i also enjoy the variety and wild west atmosphere that Wild offers.
balance change complaints are mostly overblown by n00bs and bad players who don’t know what they’re doing.

The thing is that when you have access to every powerful card in Hearthstone’s history, you also have access to every powerful tech in Hearthstone’s history a la Deathlord, Dirty Rat, Skulking Geist, etc. A combination of these results in a lot of diversity and a format that, despite being more powerful than Standard, doesn’t need to be balanced as often. Wild is definitely more “untamed” than Standard and has access to more powerful cards, but it does receive balance patches when something truly degenerate comes out of the woodwork.
Another appeal is that nothing rotates. If you get the cards for a deck, you will likely always have that deck. Wild is expensive in the short run if you want to build a wide collection (climbing the ladder is actually cheaper than Standard though, funny enough), but as you play HS for a longer period of time, Wild becomes progressively more affordable than Standard. You might not be much into Wild right now, but in the long-run it’ll become more and more appealing.

As Infinity essentially states I prefer Wild over Standard for the following reasons:
- Yes decks are ‘higher in power’ but that goes for ALL decks are higher in power so for those of us with a collection it doesn’t matter much because the decks are all of similar power
- More tech options and more cards to enable deck archetypes
- I personally feel there is greater diversity of ‘tier 2’ decks in Wild than Standard but, to be fair, Standard is in a decent spot here atm
- To go a bit with the above I feel there is a lot more room for customizing decks and homebrewing without a major hit.
Now for newer players Wild doesn’t make sense until a few years in, at minimum. So for you, yes, I doubt it’d make much sense.
Edit: I state this comparison as someone who play both r5 most months (MtG:A prevents every) and has hit Legend consistently in both… although again MtG:A is probably going to begin preventing that

Pretty much the same reasons above:

Tech options: many classes get hosed with limited tech options or removal cough priest cough, and wild removes that weakness by allowing every tech option to exist.

More cards, more fun. Many cards I’ve accumulated over the years I enjoyed playing in part cause of effects or the lore within the game. Or if a deck is fun, I’ll have the enjoyment of playing it for as long as I choose. The original League of Explorers are probably some of my most played cards (maybe not Elise or Finley). Brann and Reno have been staples since I first got them three years ago.

Less expensive over time. The fact I don’t have to worry about crafting new cards over and over again to play competitively is my biggest factor. Being able to play Wild staples that let me rank up and play games each month allows me to save dust for new cards I want to play without having to worry about my crafts being a waste. Only a fraction of new cards I need to craft as staples, and even then they’re not always necessary. And I simply play them till I get their value out of the amount of games I play.

I can always go back. If I play Wild, I can still ladder as I need to until I pull more cards after a month or so after each release. Then I can look at my standard collection and build a deck there if I choose. For standard, if I dust all my wild cards, I lose all the options above. Why limit myself to one mode when I can potentially enjoy both?
Don’t let wild scare you. If you play this game for a couple years in standard, you’ll find yourself able to play into wild with the cards you pull along the way (assuming you do most, if not all, the daily quests). The ladder rewards are the same, so there’s no real advantage to choose one or the other apart from viability.

While I do not play Wild, I think the biggest reason is that, some class are not able to break-away from their prescribed play-style in Standard consistently.
They have to wait for the open window when the expansion allows so, but in WIld, the tools are all available varying only on power level.

I think it’s because people have the cards for it and tossing large chunks of your collection every year is very wasteful / expensive otherwise. I have a lot of cards for Wild but I don’t have interest in the format. I prefer the more controlled and “current” standard format though keeping up with cards is a total PITA.

Pretty much what people have said. The format just has a lot more options than Standard does. If you have a pretty large collection of older cards Wild offers the opportunity to really experience some variety and if you’re in to deck building, you can do some pretty off the wall experimentation and pull of some ridiculous combos.
For me it just has more of a fun factor than Standard does, but I personally enjoy both right now. I tend to go back and forth and one month I’ll rank up in Wild while using Standard for experimentation and quests, and the next month I’ll switch it up. I do tend to gravitate more toward Wild as an expansion wears on though, and Standard gets stale.

Most important for me is Wild meta is not refined. Rank 20 - 10 have all kind of wacky decks which is pretty fun. Any deck sis viable at rank 20 - 10. Standard is very defined. Everyone netdeck the same deck at all rank.

I play Wild because it lets me use all my cards and not just a small subsection.
And since I don’t give a rats behind about being competetive, I play Wild Casual outside the 5+ games needed to unlock the monthly chest.

I’ve enjoyed playing wild mode. Just get to make some crazy decks, knowing that they will never get anywhere on ladder. I usually bounce around between 20 and 18, but have fun when my deck works out. But crazy things happen, I went on a run over the weekend with one of my wild decks and ended the day at 15. Never thought that my deck was that good, but it pulled of a string of wins.
Overall, I just like playing some of the cards that have rotated out of standard. It is a good break before going back to the grind of standard mode where most of the decks seem the same.

I play Wild because I love Unite the Murlocs (the Un’Goro Shaman Quest) and Deathstalker Rexxar. Wild is where I can play them.
(Wild at the lower ranks isn’t bad. Playing the Wild ladder got me my Golden Shaman hero portrait, and that’s how I got Rank 15 for the first time. Currently I’m Rank 12-13 in Wild most of the time, which is higher than my usual Standard rank.)

I dabble in it, but I will probably play it more actively come next April when Tess moves there. Standard without Tess won’t be nearly as much fun.
