I have been trying to make Wildfire mage work since it was created, and the reason I think it does not, is that you cannot tutor WF.
There is no card that tutors a fire spell for mage, to my knowledge.
Why? Why would that be too good?
WF isn’t even a particularly good spell imo, in terms of numbers.
What I mean is, the spell costs 1 mana, and HP costs two, so you have to spend 3 to deal 2.
So why can’t mage have a cheap spell that tutors a fire spell specifically?
(apologies if there is one, but I have never found it.)
It’s annoying because other classes have effective ways to tutor exactly what they need for decks.
All mage ever gets is: : “Discover random”, or “draw arcane”, and possibly: “draw a frost spell”, (I think.)
So, bit of a rant, but I really do want to know if there is an actual reason mage can’t tutor fire spells?
There is Sanctum Chandler. Oh wait, that doesn’t tutor a fire spell, just a spell when you cast a fire spell.
I don’t know that there’s a reason they can’t. They just never have printed one yet.
I think i have tried every single card that draws spells that will fit in Mage.
Nothing really works. It irks me when I see other classes: (hello rogue) shuffle through their entire deck for exactly what they need.
well, i don’t think rogue has spell school tutors either, do they? they just draw a whole lot of cards.
idk, but a generic card that tutors a fire spell could be used by almost everyone I think.
but mage is one of the best at drawing cards

Well, no, not really. Only some classes have fire spells.
Well, a pretty high amount of classes.
You could run pyrotechnician or fiddlefire imp to generate fire spells if you were a gambling man but i don’t think you are, lol.
I’m not sure how it works when drawing 1 cost spells but that 2/4 mech that draws sequential spells could be used in a mech package to tutor draw it…I dont think mech mage is an entirely foreign thing but I’m not sure if something like that would be viable in wild (then again is wildfire mage even viable in wild today?)
wait, isn’t there umm a mech that draws a fire spell for mage ? I think there is! I forget the name of it. It was buffed when the Caverns of Time set was released to draw a fire spell i think. The 3 mana 3/4 mech that gives spell damage +1.
edit: was thinking of Soot Spewer, but that generates a random fire spell. Never mind. Sorry. You could run Pyromaniac to draw cards though, that’s another draw card for wildfire mage.

random? with the side quest you can draw 3 spells
so the chances of getting wildfire depend on how many spells you run

Well, is there anything that tutors spells in general, either neutral or for mage? If so, then that is a fire spell tutor, provided you only run fire spells. Is there no neutral or mage card that draws a spell?
There is, but I have tried them all. Nothing really works.
In wild you have to run board clears and plenty of them.
You also have to run interruption or disruption.
That interferes with drawing WF reliably.
EDIT: I went back to Starscryer.
It’s not ideal, but it is working, sort of.
Still wish it just drew a fire spell and then I could really focus the deck.

You will be able to in the next set. Mage tourist lets you run a card that draws your highest and lowest cost card in deck. So long as wildfire is your only 1 cost card. It’ll draw it.
Bonus points to grillmaster being that if you’ve already drawn the wildfires, he will still draw other stuff.
4-cost Volume Up draws 3 spells (with copy 1 if Finale), but not a fire spell specifically. That’s about the best general spell tutor mage has. Will fill you hand to 10 cards if played on 4 and you’re going 2nd, so be prepared to burn cards or use the coin and cast it on 3. If you go first it’s less of a burn issue.
I have tried both many times over. Neither work very well.
But if you like try them yourself.
I have never managed better than a 43% WR with any WF lineup because not being able to tutor the spell in any effective way, (that and Reckless) makes it almost impossible against Rogues, Warriors, Locks, and Druids in Wild.
Yeah. i have tried this as well. Overfills your hand too many times to be effective. You lose to your own card burn most of the time.
